the Mavs committed the mortal sin last night of twice in the 1st half of letting LeBron get wide-open take-your-time 3pt shots. once he gets it going from deep, I'm not sure how you defend him.

anyways, Mavs were hitting 3's but nothing else despite some open looks. Miami was rebounding much better than they typically do. there were some takeaways from game1 (Barea is going to struggle to get layups against that help-D), but overall it was just one game.

Of course, it was a game in which the Heat were extremely impressive.

I think every Cleveland fan's worst nightmare came true last night. Those guys got their team to do just enough, and come 4th quarter, it was all Lebron and Wade with a bit of Bosh sprinkled in.

It's what we could have been looking at, had they come to Cleveland. It hurts a ton.

JJ Barea was absolutely killer to his own team last night. At some point they gotta tell him to stop shooting. His misses were the turning point I thought. Maybe Miami wins anyway, but it stopped being a tight game when he kept missing.

There are some positives, I think the Dallas frontcourt guys did a pretty good job of defending their paint. Problem is that their teammates didn't do a great enough job like you said, defending the perimeter. They have to clean up their rebounding, and they gotta get Peja going. If he's not hitting his shot, he's a liability out there.

It's just one game but Miami established themselves as the alpha dog in this series.

Yep. In reality Dallas should've won by four, because Dwyane Wade had a blatant basket interference when he dunked in a ball that was clearly very much over the cylinder. He also had two textbook acts of "disrespect for the game", in the second quarter screaming in a ref's face during a live ball instead of getting back on defense, and in the fourth throwing the ball at Jason Terry after Terry fouled him. Either or both could've and should've been techs. But all's well that end's well.

Wow ... they had a 15 point lead with 6 to go and lost?? ESPN was BRUTAL with OKC when they did that against the Mavs ... wonder what they'll have to say about Miami.

There are a lot of things Dallas can be doing better too. I think the time off and the fact that they'll be at home next game will benefit.

They gotta stop turning the damn ball over. Miami might be the best transition offense team I have ever seen. You have to keep that at a minimum.

Dallas HAS to win game 3.

The only way to really ratchet up the pressure on Miami is to hold home court as long as possible.

If they blow game 3, it wipes out this ENORMOUS momentum swing in the series.

I completely disagree. Dallas has to win 2 out of 3 at home. Now, if they lose game3, then they have immense pressure to win the next 2 games, but as long as they win 2 of 3 at home, they are fine.

And, I disagree with the national perspective that Miami just celebrated early. Yes, they did. However, they quickly flipped that off when Dallas ran off a quick 8 points. At that point, though, Miami was all "hero" shots, which is what did them in as they weren't falling (except of course for Big-Shot Chalmers).

LeBron missing a 'bunny' didn't help their cause either. Whoops

Also, Spoelstra seems to be taken to task today for having Bosh guard Nowitzki on that last play. Honestly, I thought he did an admirable job on the perimeter making sure he didn't have room for his step-back shot. Any drive attempt should have had help defense, but it was late from both LeBron and Haslem (specifically Haslem who had help on the weakside and should have jumped over to cutoff that drive waaaaayyyy sooner).

Huge kudos to Dallas in any event though. They showed they certainly have the marbles to take a punch and get back up. I thought they were in trouble when they blew a 9 point lead the last couple minutes of the 1st half. They hung tough until that big run, but didn't back down even after it happened. Alot of veteran leadership goes into that one.

I knew Dallas had a chance when LeBron started "boxing" Wade after Wade hit the 3 from the corner to go up 15. Miami shut it down from there. They thought they had it in the bag, and they got steamrolled from there.

Hollinger sums up the Heat's "hero shot" addiction better than I did

Quote:

The Heat took nine 3-point tries in the final eight minutes, making only two of them; Wade's 3-pointer from the corner (begetting the posing and mugging that will fill the talk radio airwaves for 72 interminable hours til the start of Game 3) was the only one of the six attempts by either Wade or James that found the net.

Moreover, it took James and Wade away from the things they actually do well. With the fast-break game closed off by Dallas' sudden flurry of scoring, the Heat rarely got the ball near the basket. Miami took 10 jump shots from 15 feet or farther, had two turnovers where the ball never threatened to enter the paint, and had only two attempts with a genuine foray to the basket. One of them produced two free throws for James, Miami's only points in a stretch of nearly seven minutes, and the other was a short-range shot that he missed.

They don't have to as they wont be eliminated, but every NBA Finals that has been tied after the first 2 games, the team that won game 3 has gone on to win the Finals. (Since the 2-3-2 format began)

Sure its not set in stone that the trend will continue, but it is a VERY big game in the series.

I've said since last summer......I'll buy the jersey of the team that bounces the Heat from the playoffs and wear it constantly. The ball is in your court Dallas.

BW hits a new low. Tries to defend LeBron's game4. He initially panned him but it's like ESPN-suits told him he better come out with a ridiculous "it's not LeBron's fault" article or else.

oh you know it's coming.

if the heat lose this series, they'll blame it on cleveland either by A) we overused him too much, he played too many minutes in cleveland because he was the only guy that ever scored a point in 7 years. or... B) The mental pressure from 7 years in cleveland with AAU-level teammates was too much.

It's obviously our fault. Don't you guys get that yet??!!! Jeez.

Personally I would love to see the Heat be the 1st team to lose a 7 game series after winning game 3 to go up 2-1. I would just take a perverse pleasure in watching them make the wrong kind of history.

Unfortunately, I think that they'll win this series ...... but it's nice to dream about the opposite happening.

I love John Maddenisms:

Ok, so LeBron had a bad game4. He's going to be amped for game5. I know that, you know that, Dallas knows that. So, here's what the Mavs do. They let LeBron go to the rim on the first play and BAM! Tyson Chandler.

Anyone hear the rumors about LeBron and Rashard Lewis going around today? Supposedly that rumor is why LeBron looked so disinterested in Game 4.

Well, anytime Miami goes in the paint, it's a guaranteed trip to the line.....but as I typed that Dallas keeps answering.

If Dallas finishes this off .... I'll be curious to see what happens in Miami if Dallas is close, or has a small lead late in game 6 .....

Triple Doubles in a loss are meaningless as far as I'm concerned. He had one last year in the playoffs in a loss too.

Glad it happened to him in a Miami loss too.

He disappeared again in the 4th quarter. He had a couple decent assists and a meaningless layup but when his team needed a bucket down the stretch he was nowhere to be found.. well a couple times he did throw up a 3 that wasn't close... With the game on the line in his "Now or never" game, Dirk destroyed him in the 4th quarter.. again.

LeBron had another bad game. He scored better and wasn't completely disinterested, but...

1. Wade goes out, Bosh on the bench, and he's still completely deferring? On one possession, shot clock went down to 6 and he passed up a 3pter to pass to Chalmers who had to take an off-balance one to beat the clock (it missed).

2. LeBron in the corner not doing anything offense was still in effect alot of the night. I think 2 FTs and 2 charges says it all.

3. On defense, whoever LeBron was guarding just went to the opposite side of the floor from Nowitzki. Spoels and LeBron never adjusted to get him more involved and as a result he was pretty much a non-factor on defense (he did have some good rim protections). Marion punking him with his ugly-spinning-hooks was pretty funny.

4. Time to close out the game and Terry is hitting daggers, mavs are coming up big, LeBron needs to prove he can take the game over w/ Wade hurting, but he barely puts up a fight.

That's probably too unfair. It wasn't all on LeBron, but I was expecting him to show he could dominate after game4. He sure didn't.

BTW, Big-3 had the worst +/- on the Heat tonight.

Yeah I was expecting a big game also after Stevenson's comments. Hopefully we see 1 more game like this from him and maybe we atleast wont have to hear the silly #23 comparisons for another year.

So we're all on the same page, I made the triple-double comment as an allusion to all the people who pointed to his triple-double in game 6 last year as evidence that he couldn't possibly have quit or choked.

Hilarious that everyone is blaming LeBron's issues on Spoelstra for giving him too many minutes.

Yeah no kidding, its almost unbearable to watch any pre game anymore. Last night they were bashing the Cleveland teams that won the most games in the regular season two years in a row, including almost setting a record W-L on the home court. LBJ is good, he's not that good. Its really upsetting how they ignore every other teammate and say that the Cavs never got him any help. It's exremely bad journalism.

They can say it all they want for as long as they want. I've seen enough already to know there will never be a comparison. It goes way beyond numbers and LeBron will never be close to what MJ was.

Van Gundy last night said that even with Wade out that Heat team was the best team that LeBron ever played on. And then kept going.

I would have been angry, but right when he said that the Mavs hit 4 3pters in a row so I couldn't help but smile.

heard a joke on the way in today:

Spoelstra asked LeBron if he had change for a dollar, but he could only give him 3 quarters.

edit: botched the wording a bit. it's funnier this way.
