My favorite .....
29. Charles Barkley on his thoughts about retiring before the season: "I remember sitting down with the Rockets and saying, 'Yeah. I'm going to retire.' They said, 'Well, we'll give you $9 million.' And I said, 'You got a pen on you?'"

I guess Aldrich could become an upgrade, but I agree with you.
Also, would OKC really want AV and Perkins on the floor together? I'm guessing that would lead to some spacing issues.
he'd be a nice sixth man, but i agree i don't think that does much for us, other than the $$ thing, and like i say, cap space for us, as it stands now (depends on new cba) means jack squat.

So does Andy, I know he is a fan faivorite but he will not be part of our future just like I predicted Mo Williams and Mike Brown would not.

it is likely that Andy will not be apart of our future, but we shouldn't trade him for spare parts. he is one of the few players on our roster that is valued in the league.

If Tristan Thompson puts on weight he will be a better version of Kenyon Martin.
Also OSU hired Chris Jent who was a former Cavs coach and lepunks shooting coach.

I hate to see Chris Jent go. I think he was a pretty solid coach.
I do think that a few NBA assistants may wind up back in college if it looks like the strike is going to be a long one.

He's not a bad shooter. He just slashes to the rim because he knows the refs will bail him out.

He's not a bad shooter ... *when he actually takes smart shots*. His problem is he tries to take too many "hero" shots where he ratches up the degree of difficulty to make it look more impressive.
And he SHOULD be driving to the basket. He's got the size to muscle out just about any SF and PF, and the speed and agility to get around most as well. He's either going to get a high percentage shot or a foul. The playoff book of defense against him is to LET him take the mid-rangers, because he's so enamoured with trying to make big "hero" shots ... and because he hits them far less than his driving shots, while keeping your own guys out of foul trouble.

You just reminded me of something. Rajon Rondo is overated as hell. He doesn't want to take crunch-time shots worse than Lebron. He's not confident he can hit them and he doesn't want to drive because he knows if he gets fouled he'll miss at least one, if not two of his FTs.
It makes me sick that Mo Williams didn't sag off him last year and make him shoot.

I think he's perfect for that system. He does a nice job of handling 3 hall of fame players, and has a great coach in his ear. I think he's overrated too. His jumper isn't broke, it flat out doesn't work.
I think if you stuck him on another team, like if you traded him and derrick rose, he'd be horrible (although i don't think rose would be all that effective with that boston team either). Kyrie Irving may not be the next steve nash, but I think he can be way better than Rondo.
The thing I do like about Rondo is that he makes a ton of heads-up plays. He'll grab a steal by running behind someone, he seems to get big time rebounds in bit situations, he definitely does some nice things that make up for his horrible jump shot.

I agree. Also Synergy is such an awesome site. NBA teams like the Heat have used it. They chart. each possesion in every game and record every stat. The top 5 worst defenders last year: •Marco Belineli •Nicholas Batum - He was terrible last year •J.R. Smith •Daniel Gibson •Ramon SessionsAwesome, JJ was ranked 366 in defense for big men

Cavaliers exercise team option on Eyenga
John Krolik
Jun 29, 2011, 8:04 PM EDT
CLEVELAND (AP) – The Cleveland Cavaliers have exercised their third-year contract option on swingman Christian Eyenga.
Eyenga, who averaged 6.9 points as a rookie last season, is under contract with the Cavs through the 2012-13 season. In 44 games last season, the Congo native averaged 2.8 rebounds and 21.5 minutes in 44 games – 18 as a starter.
The Cavs selected the 6-foot-7 Eyenga with the 30th overall pick in the 2009 draft. The 22-year-old previously played for Joventut in Spain.
It was a shocker when the Cavs selected Eyenga in the 1st round of the 2009 draft — he had barely been playing in Spain, and was so unknown that there wasn’t a name card available to put on the draft board when the Cavaliers selected him. Eyenga is a tremendous athlete who has shown some ability to knock down threes with his feet set, but he’s still extremely raw on both ends of the floor.
He has no dribble-drive game to speak of, doesn’t get to the foul line, falls in love with his jumper, and is often out of position on defense. Now that Kyrie Irving and Baron Davis will be running the point for the Cavaliers, Eyenga may have more opportunities to get out in the open floor and do what he does best, but he’ll likely have to make some serious improvements to his individual game in order to become a rotation-quality NBA player.
Go Browns!!!

He has a tremendous amount of athletic ability, but he has no idea how to play basketball. To be fair, he didn't even speak English until recently and had to deal with more than just adjusting to the speed and style of the NBA. I think for his first full year here he showed some promising improvement over the course of the year. I'm interested to see if he can reach his ceiling, because its almost impossibly high. Glad we picked up his option.

the only issue I have is Byron seemed to lose confidence in him late in the year. when we should have been giving him more run to get him out on the floor just to learn, he had his butt stapled to his seat.
ladies and gentlemen, your possible starting SF!

I think that's the worst statement I've ever seen from you, regarding basketball.
Dude averages 10.7ppg, 7.6 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 2 steals over his career.
John Stockton averaged 10.8ppg, 7.7 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 1.7 steals.
John Stockton is a Hall of Famer, in case you were unaware

Byron Scott tends to bench you if you don't give effort on the defensive end. I've noticed that trend. I think its why J.J. Hickson was in the dog house so much, and why inevitably he'll be traded.
Eyenga's defense isn't all that, but it should improve like the rest of his game.

Did you read the rest of what I said at all? Celtics won the title because they had 3 future HOF and solid play from Perkins.

I had to look it up because that seemed way to low for his APG. According to nba.com, he averaged 13.1 PPG, 10.5 APG, 2.7 RPG & 2.17 SPG.
It looks like you were looking at his final season.

Cavs are going to trade Hickson to the Kings for Omri Casspi and a future 1st. link That's the best link I can find. But the story should be up on ESPN soon.

We got rid of the log jam at PF and got a guy who will play SF.
The only part I care about is the draft pick for next year.

and will get a first-round pick in addition, although the pick is lottery-protected in 2012. The pick is then protected in 2013 (1-13), 2014 (1-12) and 2015-2017 (1-10). If the pick is not conveyed by 2017, then Sacramento will convey its 2017 second-round draft pick to the Cavaliers protected (56-60.)

Depends on how "protected" that pick is, but this could be a very good trade. Sacramento is in a state of flux, and who knows how well that team will play when they don't even know where they'll be playing next year. Cassipi is interesting, though. Not exactly a solidified #3 spot (although I won't complain about actually having a body there now) ... but he does hit 3-pointers at a pretty good clip.
It's obvious that JJ wasn't in Scott's long term plans. Also, hearing things like, "His inner circle wanted him to force a 15 foot shot to his game, so he could drive his free agency to a max contract", sort of cools me on him as a long-term fixture to the team. Pretty sad to think that this guy had such value a few years ago, that we wouldn't trade him for an Amare rental.

Just hope the Kings sneak in as an 8 seed. It is possible since Denver will stink and New Orleans will when they trade CP3

I don't know what to think about this trade.
On one hand, I like JJ more than most. I think he played really, really well after the allstar break and it could be a sign of things to come. Omri Casspi, on the other hand, seemed to regress in his 2nd year in the league.
On the other hand, we all know about JJs issues with Byron and it's quite possible that the team knew he was an blowup waiting to happen and he'd sulk and stop playing defense and in the post again. Or, they don't trust him at all to not gain 200lbs during the lockout. And, I still remember how good Casspi looked his rookie year when Tyreke was healthy and didn't just dribble holes in the floor.
Also, I like the idea of adding another 1st round pick. But, like others have stated it's sort of disheartening to see the protection level on it.
At the end of the day, it seems that Chris Grant realized that we have too many PFs and Eyenga was slotted as our starting SF; so he went out and did something about it before he absolutely wrecked Irvings confidence in his teammates.
Hopefully, this turns out for the best.

yeah, but I mentioned Eyenga at SF as the reason for this trade. Jonas wouldn't have changed that.

Pretty much. We'll have Miami's 2017 1st rounder then too, so we should really clean up in the back end of the draft there.

considering how dysfunctional that Kings team is going to be, probably.
you have pouting Cousins and JJ who both need to be beaten over the heads to play defense. then you have 2 guards who like to score more than anything else (and will likely result in more pouting from the bigs). I feel bad for Thompson.
they also have Dalembert, Salmons (another guard who doesn’t pass, yay!), Francisco Garcia, and Donte Greene in their rotation

Swing and a miss for the cavs, if we were gonna trade JJ we should have done it for the amare deal, for however long.

Sort of 20/20 hindsight though. We didn't exactly know what we had with JJ then. He looked really promising and we had him locked down for a few more years.
I still contend that trading for Amare wouldn't of really done us any good either. Amare and James would of struggled a bit to find their roles in just a few months, and there's still no guarantee that Lebron wouldn't of just pulled another "Lebron" and mailed it in against the Celtics when the going got tough. In the offseason, Lebron STILL more than likely would of bolted to go play with his friends on the Heat, and Amare would of likely bailed to the Knicks. In which case we would have exactly "nothing" to show for the JJ trade.
