I have a HTC Hero. It's over a year old now, but I'm still good with it. The only thing I don't like is my weather maps don't animate on it.
Yah...the hero is pretty much the same phone as My Touch 3G....i love this phone...just wish it didn't lag at times...

Personally, I want the HTC EVO 3D, unfortunately I have to wait another year for my big discount.
I heard HTC EVO 3D is going to be sick....too bad i'm not with sprint...who knows man in a year u might have more 3D phone options....

iPhone 4..... got it free through work. Only real complaints are lack of flash and battery life. Otherwise, very easy to do many things on. The GPS on it is stellar.
do you guys have navigation on it? or just the map with directions?

I guess I'm not using my phone enough or correctly?
I was grandfathered with the unlimited plan from AT&T and I've never come close to using 2gb's of data for any month I've had my phone.
same here...i have tmobile unlimited data plan....and the most i've used is maybe 1200MB in a month...but that's probably because i don't stream movies/videos much...
If you use an app like pandora for a week i'm sure it will rack up some MBs or even Gs...
Oh I use Pandora quite a bit. When I'm riding my motorcycle I have my bluetooth headphones on and I stream it and still I've only managed about 800 megs.

I'm really wanting an HTC Thunderbolt, but with Verizon dumping their unlimited data packages, I'm not so sure I want to stay with them.
Does anyone even have an unlimited anymore?
I do with Tmobile...but i'll lose it when i buy this phone they want me to pay 30 bucks for 5GBs a month....i could drop to 2GBs for 20 a month after 6 months...which is probably what i'm going to do....i'll find out in 6months if i'll go over with the new "video" ability that thing has...and live TV etc etc

I have a serious question:
Why would you need to watch TV on your phone?
Seriously.
If you are away from your house, where do you watch TV? Can't do it while you're driving. It's impolite to do so while you're a passenger in someone else's car. Probably not going to do it at the store, in a bar, or at work ..... I would guess that a date would find it rude as well ....... can't watch it at a wedding or funeral ........ even walking down the street would be dangerous ....... so where and when do you watch live TV on your phone?
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Airport. Airplane. I've downloaded movies, tv shows, podcasts etc...to watch while traveling.

Most airlines that I know of won't even allow a cell phone to be turned on during a flight. Do they allow that now? Don't most airlines offer access to movies and such in flight? Is it so much more convenient to watch a miniature screen in flight? I could see in the airport ... maybe ... but that seems a rather limited use. Most people I know with these phones rarely fly anywhere .... so I still have to wonder when they would use them.
I do know a lot of really rude people who will ride with someone else driving and watch their phones .... text incessantly ... and so on ..... and that seems quite rude to me. I see some kids watching TV while waiting to start work ...... but that really just kills a few minutes.
I just don't see a really useful purpose, and certainly not a value for the dollar. To each their own thoug.

I typically fly up and down the east coast so I am usually on shorter regional flights that don't offer movie/tv service. On longer flights out west, I may prefer to watch something of my choice rather what the airline offers. I got stuck watching Jackie Chan's "Around the World in 80 days," heading out to Phoenix, pure torture, so bad I couldn't look away. You can use your elctronic devices on an airplane once you reach 10,000 ft. However, you wouldn't be able stream live tv. From my experience, it has been a nice option to have. Not a necessity, but like I said, a nice feature I use at times. Nice for airport delays as well.

I'm about to switch to Virgin Mobile... I am so sick of Verizon milking me every month..
July 19th Virgin Mobile is coming out with the Motorola Triumph... Huge screen, who most compare the phone to the droid..
Virgin Mobiles pre paid plans start at $25!!!! thats 300 talk minutes and unlimited everything else... they got me... SOLD!!!!!!
The phone is $300 bucks, but if I use an upgrade I'm going to spend $200 anyway.. might as well spend an extra $100 to take advantage of paying such an inexpensive monthly bill (non-contract).

You can always stream on flights that have internet access too. I use my iPad for this more than my Droid now since the screen is larger - it is a nice to have, but certainly not a necessity. It is one thing I would cut from my budget if I needed to.

Why would you need to watch TV on your phone?
i'm more like Arch and Peen to this point where I use my phone to make calls. i assume that will change once my kids are old enough to move me around more because i definitely see the advantages.
for your question:
1. parties, weddings, gatherings where the hosts don't have the proper grace to have the game on. well, i want to see the game and will steal myself away for a few minutes every now and then to go check on it. i'd rather get to watch an inning than just see the boxscore online (and it wouldn't be anti-social as I'm guessing there'd be a few of us).
2. commuters in cities especially. Vanpools are common here in Austin. 6-8 people carpooling in a van to work. well, you can definitely use it then. Or, if you are taking the 'L' in Chicago or the subway in NYC.
3. already mentioned airports for delays, but delays happen otherplaces as well. ever had to sit for an hour at the DMV? Doctor's office (I would have killed for a TV for my kids when my wife's OB-G got called away for a birth right before her appt and we were trying to entertain 2 kids in the office)?
4. it's not here yet, but it's coming in the next couple of years: many minivans, etc. have TVs built into the back of seats for long trips. well, soon you will be able to hookup your phone to your dash and stream the TV to these screens (rather than be limited to DVDs).
those are a few of the uses, but there are more. just think anytime you are bored with 20 minutes to kill. there you go.

I use it at work. I work third shift in a very reactive job. If nothing breaks, then I'm pretty bored. I was able to watch the ncaa tournament on my phone.
Other than that, any time I travel is another time I would do this. These phones all have an airplane mode function on them which allows them to be turned on once the pilot gives the ok(above 10,000 ft).
Granted, tablets are much better for watching tv. A cell phone is typical osmething vwe have on us all the time these days, it makes ideal. I've never actually watched a movie on my phone, I typically use it for sports when I am on the go.
It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!

I see the good and the bad in that. I know its coming and I understand how those uses appear beneficial but really, do we (and our kids) need to have electronic entertainment every minute of every day? Can we not wait at the DMV or at the airport for half an hour or an hour and read a book or just be with our own thoughts or, God forbid, make conversation with the person next to us? From the airport is it that freakin necessary that I can check to find out that my friend Amy just baked cookies and they are SOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!!!! Are we that lame and insecure and weak minded that we must have internet connectivity and television there to entertain us? And then we wonder why when our kids are put in a situation where they HAVE TO sit still for an hour without entertainment, they can't. Look, I enjoy some of the things I'm railing against. I let me kids watch movies in the car on long trips but they don't need to watch cartoons for the 15 minutes it takes to get to the grocery store or to church... And I like to be able to check on scores and use my GPS..... I'm not an old curmudgeon that is against technology but are we really doing ourselves or our kids a favor by putting a television in front of them every time they have 15 minutes of downtime? I don't think so.

My wife and I have dumb phones, we have AT&T, we share 700 minutes a month, no text, just talking, we pay $70.65 a month. We currently have over 2000 rollover minutes, we gain more than we lose every month.
This is what we have had for over 4 years with no home phone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy that I am happy with.
I have been seeing these commercials of these phones that can be used as a hotspot. Does this mean I can do away with my home internet service, and use the phone to connect my desktop, and my laptop to the internet?
Yes and no. Yes you can connect your desktop through it, but the connection will be slower than your current ISP and you'll most likely have a data limit. For example, Verizon will be charging $30/month for 2GB of data via the hotspot function.
Unless your phone is terribly inefficient, it should be much faster internet. 4G has sick speeds that are WAY better than what I get via my cable modem. Now, it wouldn't be suitable for gaming as the latencies would definitely be worse, but surfing & email would be fine.
As for limits.... you can root your phone and enable the tethering/hotspot functionality on your own.
Then your home cable modem is slow. I get nowhere near the speeds on 3G/4G that I can at home. Now the Wifi on the phone is not much faster than 3G, which I figure is more about processing power than DL speed.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

My cable is 10Mbps down, but perhaps only 1Mbps up?
It's Time Warner's mid-range product - whatever that is.
4G is capable of MUCH faster speeds in both directions - whether or not you get those speeds will depend on where you are at, however.

The iPhone anyway, can't speak on the droids, has an airplane mode that turns your cell portion off if necessary. I've never found it necessary. In an airplane I'll watch movies, listen to my music or pass the time with a stupid game. I hate chatting with complete strangers and if those ear phones can block out a screaming baby, I'm down with it!
Now it really reaches the priceless level when I'm stuck shopping with my wife. Sitting in those guy only chairs in the womens stores, great place to watch a movie.

That also depends on what your provider offers. You can have a 4G phone, but your provider may not have the 4G capability.
I had the unlimited data ect...with my Alltel Blackberry, but I had to get a new one last December, because I broke the screen at work and without my knowledge the kid (who should have been in the movie "the hangover") put me on another plan and renewed my contract for a another year
blackberry it doesn't come close to some of the better hand helds available today.

Mine has 2 types of Nav (Droid). One through AT&T and one from Google. I prefer the google nav app myself.

I know Verizon still offers unlimited date and people are grandfathered in on AT&T, but I was asking if anyone actually still offers unlimited data w/out having announced plans to get a rid of it. Hopefully I get grandfathered into Verizon. It does look like Sprint hasn't announced anything so they are probably the only choice. I don't know what T-Mobile's plan is but I don't care to even look since I'm sure they will just adapt to AT&T's anyways.

Same here. I'm getting 12 mb/s on average on my cable line. I have seen speeds up to about 18 mb/s. Not gonna come anywhere close to that on 3g service. Even the hyped up 4g service isn't true 4g. Of course the companies will just keep marketing it and ignoring the standards, but it's a marketing game for them.

Anyone have or know someone that has the Casio Gzone Commando Droid phone? I'm eligible for an upgrade on 7/11 and was thinking about getting it. It's made to be dropped, wet, dirty, etc and that would be nice to have for my work. It's ratings are over 4 stars on Verizon's site.
I can't help you, but I was eyeing up that phone as well. It would be pretty nice to have a phone that can stand up to a little abuse.
Browns Lifer, I'm a WebOS fanatic. I'm thinking about picking up a Pre2 on Verizon or hoping the Pre3 comes to Sprint.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I can't help you with this model of Casio. But my hubs had a previous model (not a smart phone) and he liked it well enough. And it does take a beating. He drops his phone often.

I wanted an HTC EVO last year but it was sold out and I didn't want to leave Sprint so I cheapened out with a refurbished Blackberry(my first smartphone).
While I do like the phone I agree with you, the Blackberry browser is not very good and it is frustrating. My experience has improved since I found the Mini Opera browser. But yeah, like you I'm anxiously awaiting for my deal to be up in a year.

When you watched them on the iPod's 1 inch screen before there was an iPhone, it's actually nice. It's not a 58" Panny but have you ever tried to lug a 58" Panny through airport security? It's all relative.

lol, funny you mention that. I remember back in the 80's, my dad would be working in the garage or on the boat or something. And he had this little, tiny handheld tv to watch the Browns game or the Indians games on. Had it sitting right on his workbench. Wasn't really watching it so much, but was listening and would look up when the announcers would yell.
I haven't thought about that little tv in years....Bet I still have it in one of his old boxes.

I highly recommending the Android 2.3 update for all Droid X owners.
I updated and it's like I have a whole new phone. So much faster.
I can't wait for it to come to my work phone (Atrix).

I used to get sent to our spare room (basically her walk in closet) when my kids were babies by my X when watching Browns games and I would watch it on one of those 9"
Also my 1st look at footage of 911 as it was unfolding and I saw the 2nd plan hit the 2nd tower was on one a guy had in his van on the job site. After that ever ones thoughts were about home and we all closed up and went home to be with family.

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

Watching movies or TV on a screen half the size of a disposable rain poncho has to be a great experience.
No but being able to watch college football while I'm miserable at work on a Saturday is.

I have a serious question:
Why would you need to watch TV on your phone?
Well...i don't live in cleveland...and there is a possiblity that columbus won't air the BROWNS games....my alternative would be tmobile TV!!!! i'm not 100% sure if it will be aired obviously....but i think it has a good chance.
Things like that....if i'm out with buddies and we want to watch a quick recap or highlights of games or something...i will never really use it to sit down and watch a show or something honestly.
