oh, and Beltran is now going to be a SF Giant. apparently we did 'win' the trade auction, but Beltran/Boras rejected us. Mets get a good but not great prospect in Wheeler back. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/wr...3&eref=sihp

ok, stopped there. i'm insanely jealous. that is all.
Ha, you'd probably be seeing more action than I am. I'm not much of a gambler...here because my wife's had a trade show for work and I tagged along. Broke even on the slots, lost $20 on a horse race...mother-in-law had a horse that was harness racing in Yonkers who was the favorite to win but another driver hit them just out of the gate and dented a wheel. Could've been a lot worse though.
They haven't had the NFL numbers up today that I've seen and I can't remember what they had the Browns at.

i've gone to Vegas in August a couple times (not the best time for weather), but i always made a habit of betting the 'over' on the Browns wins. just a little something extra to cheer for during the year (never much money, but it's more a principle thing )

Oh the weather has been miserable (to me).
Right now I'm watching the Chisox and Tigers, and the Sox just blew an opportunity with bases loaded and one out in the 7th. Fly ball then picked at home trying to tag and score. Chicago is up one run, hoping they can equalize the Tribe loss.

yeah, switched over to that game on my radio feed (mlb.tv). Danks was mowing them down (10SO in 6IP) but I'm surprised their terrible bullpen was able to hold off the Tigers after they blew their opportunities at the plate.

trade alert (big one for Toronto and St.Louis. I think Chicago made a huge mis-step unless Zach Stewart is better than indicated so far in his minor league career) http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=STEWART19860928AQuote:
The Cardinals sent Colby Rasmus and two relievers to Toronto, sacrificing a starting outfielder to get more pitching for the second straight year near the trade deadline. Last July, the Cardinals dealt right fielder Ryan Ludwick to the Padres in a three-team deal that brought them starter Jake Westbrook from the Indians.
Jackson had been dealt to Toronto a few hours earlier by the White Sox, who also sent utility player Mark Teahen to the Blue Jays in exchange for reliever Jason Frasor and pitching prospect Zach Stewart.

I didn't see this: At least the front office is in there swinging away. http://www.cleveland.com/tribe/index.ssf/2011/07/cleveland_indians_rebuffed_in.html#incart_hbxCarlos Beltran rebuffs Tribe trade attempt: Cleveland Indians daily briefing Published: Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 9:46 AM Updated: Wednesday, July 27, 2011, 12:45 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Indians, trying to revive their struggling offense, made a strong push for Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran, but were told he preferred to go elsewhere. In a story first reported Tuesday by Peter Gammons of MLB.com, the Indians offered to pay the remainder of Beltran's $18.5 million contract this year and give the Mets a player. The Indians were told it was a no go. Beltran has a complete no-trade clause in his contract. If the deal had been made, the Indians would have been responsible for about $7 million in salary. Beltran can be a free agent at the end of the season and has a clause in his contract that the team he ends the season with cannot offer him arbitration. That means there would be no compensation draft picks for that team if he signed with another ballclub during the winter. On Tuesday, Beltran told New York reporters that the deal was never presented to him. It's evident that Beltran's agent, Scott Boras, has given the Mets a list of teams that Beltran would be willing to lift his no trade clause for and that Indians aren't on it. Beltran seemingly would prefer to stay in the National League. He'd also like to go to a team that has a chance to reach the postseason. The Indians trail first-place Detroit in the AL Central by two games. The switch-hitting Beltran is hitting .289 (102-for-353) with 30 doubles, two triples, 15 homers and 66 RBI. He has a .904 OPS and has started 91 games in right field. Beltran would have been a good fit for the Indians, who are currently platooning weak-hitting Austin Kearns and Travis Buck in right field after losing Shin-Soo Choo to injury. Kearns is hitting .220 (29-for-132) with two homers and six RBI. Buck is hitting .230 (34-for-148) with two homers and 18 RBI.

I was hopping some one could shed some light on the no hitter today against the Tribe.
How did we score the run? With walks and errors?

It wasn't on TV so I couldn't watch it. But I think Carrerra scored on a wild pitch in the first. Not sure if he got on by walk/error/HBP.
Joe Thomas made Justin Timberlake change his name. He didn't want wusses to have the same initials...

The Yankees and Reds are perceived to be the teams with the best chances of landing Rockies right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez.
Another club, however, is strongly in the mix, according to major-league sources.
The Indians.
In fact, one source said, the Indians probably match up with the Rockies the best if they are willing to part with the required players.
Rival executives say the Indians have been aggressive in trying to upgrade both their rotation and their offense, thinking big in multiple deals.

why would you trade pomeranz, white, kipinis, and chisenhall?? Beltran is going to the giants, he didn't want to come here. I like upton and some of those other players, but they're not worth trading away your best pitching prospect since cc, for a mediocre player. Guys like santana, kipinis and chisenhall, you have to at least give 2 full seasons to develop. Look what happened to brandon phillips. Gave up on him, and he turned into a perennial all star. We're not going to sign the big cats in free agency. Building through the draft is the only way to go.

he can say that, but when can we actually ever believe anything the organization ever says.
For me, I bet it was more about not wanting to deal with Scott Boras than it was with Beltran just flat out rejecting it. I have no problem with that either.
And yes, we definitely missed the boat on Brandon Phillips although even if we kept him there is no guarantee he turns into the player he is now. You can also argue the other side about Andy Marte. That road goes both ways.
The problem is, we are 3 years removed from the Matt Laporta deal and I don't like what I see.

I agree about Laporta. He definitely looks like a bum right now.
It just seems like indians fans are so damn impatient. Even though, our team can't score a lick, we're still right there in a pennant race. Even if we acquire some pieces, we're not winning the world series this year. Yet that seems to be the expectation with this organization, year in and year out. It baffles me so called fans havn't figured out, we're not going to outspend the yankees. If we're ever going to win a world series it will be from developing guys like kipnis, pomeranz, white, chisenhall etc..
Look around baseball. Other than beltran, there has been little movement on the trade front.

I'm fine with not getting Beltran. He would have been a few months rental and we are not one bat away. We are missing two key bats completely, and guys like Santana are underperforming. One bat doesn't make up for all that.
Jiminez definitely intrigues me. He would be a fixture in the rotation for 3 years of a relatively cheap contract, so even if we don't win the division this year, he would still be there 2 more years.
