Here's the guys I'd like us to see re-sign, though nobody other than Dawson, Moore, Wright, or Womack would I be worried too much about losing to FA. Elam is on the border for me.

CB Coye Francies
DL Titus Adams (ERFA)
LB Blake Costanzo (RFA)
K Phil Dawson (franchise tag)
TE Evan Moore (RFA - 2nd round tender)
DL Brian Schaefering
DL Robaire Smith
OL Floyd Womack
CB Eric Wright (RFA - 2nd round tender)
S Abe Elam
OG Billy Yates
DE Jayme Mitchell

Per other team's FAs, being realistic, here are some of the guys I'd like to see us bring in:

Carlos Rogers, CB
Eric Weddle, S
Cliff Avril, DE
Manny Lawson, DE*
Vernon Gholston, DE*
Thomas Davis, OLB
Ernie Sims, OLB
I'd love to bring in Santonio Holmes, but being 1 strike from a year off of football, he makes me nervous.

* I think these guys could benefit from playing in the 4-3 instead of the 3-4.

And UDFAs - in no particular order -
DeAndre McDaniel, FS
Mark Herzlich, OLB
Jarriel King, OG
Joe Lefeged, S
Pierre Allen, DE
Dane Sanzenbacher, WR
Darvin Adams, WR
Ugo Chinesa, DE
Ryan Winterswyk, DE
Noel Devine, RB

A 2nd Rounder for EW is VERY interesting... Especially if it's a not so good team's second rounder...

Except he's not a restricted free agent anymore, so we wouldn't get any compensation for him if he left.

Agreed, but with all the decent CBs available in FA, I will be surprised if it happens.

Jerome Harrison - has done nothing but produce. In 2009, after blowing away Jamal Lewis' numbers as the primary backup in Cleveland, the Browns tried him out for five games as the primary back. He picked up 734 yards on 151 carries in those games (4.9 yards per carry), scoring five times. Eric Mangini was apparently underwhelmed, and the franchise drafted Montario Hardesty in the second round while acquiring Peyton Hillis in a trade with the Broncos. Hillis got the job after Harrison fumbled against the Chiefs in Week 2, and Harrison ended up getting dealt to the Eagles. In his two games with significant action as an Eagle, he gained 208 rushing yards on 20 carries. Someone give this guy a job already.

Good point, I didn't go through the list above and clean up RFA/UFA/etc..., just copy/paste

Would love to have him back, but I can't see him re-signing here. I think Seattle would be a great place for him. The RB situation there is somewhat tenuous...

From the same article:

Quote:

Dawan Landry - has had the benefit of playing his entire career alongside future Hall of Famers Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, which goes a long way. Since Reed does all the freelancing, Landry's job has mostly been to do whatever it is Reed isn't doing at any given time. He's best attacking the line of scrimmage and helping out against the run. He's been linked to Dallas after former Ravens defensive coordinator Rob Ryan signed there, but a more likely landing point for him would be St. Louis, where Steve Spagnuolo needs to replace the departed O.J. Atogwe.

Is it so hard to do research? Seriously...

The only guy on that list that we absolutely have to re-sign is Wright.

I agree, unless we sign someone else better than him. Eric Wright had his problems last season, but i've always thought he's an efficient number 2 corner. I think those couple games where he got burned really bad were a fluke and he's just too talented to let it stick to him. He's not Joe Haden, but Joe Haden looks to be a great player.

We have the money, we should resign him unless we find someone his caliber or better. But I get the feeling Wright won't come too expensive and will offer decent services. Of course there are other guys who won't get top dollar who are good too. But the corner group looks large, so keeping Eric Wright can't be too hard.

I would re-sign the following guys:

Abe Elam
Jayme Mitchell
Robaire Smith
Jason Trusnik
Lawrence Vickers
Floyd Womack
Eric Wright
Billy Yates

I know that they don't like Elam for some reason ... so he won't be back. I would bring him back if I were in charge. Same for Vickers, but they don't seem to like Vickers, so he probably won't be back.

Both players were close with Mangini, for whatever that's worth ..... so that may be an issue they are considering. I would bring them both back, but the Browns almost certainly won't.

Mitchell was singled out by Heckert as our "best pass rusher", so I would expect that he'll be re-signed.

Smith will probably be back, at least through camp to see where he's at.

Trusnik might fit at LB/DE. He played DE in a 4-3 in college. I would guess that he's worth at least a training camp look if they could get a decent deal.

Womack and Yates are both important. Womack should challenge for the RT spot, and Yates played very well at RG last year before getting hurt.

I would bring Wright back if he could be signed to a reasonable deal. Hopefully last year was just a bad year and he'll rebound this year.

My problem with those guys is how old they are and the fact that they aren't good, they're just okay players. I look at pros verses cons,

Pro: They're versatile players capable of playing multiple positions. They aren't stellar, but they're serviceable.

Cons: Yates is 31 and Womack is 32. They're both older guys. On a team that needs to improve and find a way to consistently win, do we want to keep these older guys? Womack and Yates aren't getting any better, they're good backups but not really starter quality players. Do we want these guys taking spots on our game day roster.

Signing deals with these guys has a lot to do with the length. If they will accept one year deals and are content with being backups, sounds good. Otherwise, I dunno if I'm interested. This doesn't change the situation that I'd like to find a right tackle take Pashos' place.

I'm very interested in how Lavuvo (or however it's spelled) looks. I'd like to sign a FA linemen for the right side of our offensive line, and tackle is harder to find than guard every year. It would be a great surprise if he showed up capable of holding down one of those two positions.

I really have no faith in Tony Pashos

I think tomorrow is going to be a very intriguing day. Heckert loves to work the trade market. He has had nothing else to do other than watch film and talk to other GM's and agents about trades and what players will cost.

I could see a guy like Benard being traded (There is a major shortage of pass rushing 3-4 linebackers). Mike Shanahan has wanted STeiny for years. Rob Ryan loved Chris Gocong. Hell even Jake Delhomme might have value to a team needing a one year stop gap to groom their rookie QB.

Osi in New York wants out and he is the type of DE Heckert and Jauron would love to land. We may be better off trading for a true free safety than going after the expensive products that aren't really what Jauron wants in a safety.

Who knows there may be another Peyton Hillis that he has his eye on that has never really had a chance to show himself. I gotta think we will see a trade or two come tomorrow.

I'm ALWAYS skeptical of a guy who has his best year RIGHT before he hits FA (Let's call it: The Haynesworth Factor)

Especially at positions that are "High Motor" ones like D-Line...

Is a guy like Charles Johnson going to continue to push himself, AFTER he gets paid?

He had a huge increase in numbers but that correlates to his huge increase in snaps after Julius Peppers left. Johnson had always been a productive pass rusher but when the Panthers gave him more playing time is when he really started to put up bigger numbers. In 2008 he had 7 sacks and 29 QB pressures in 540 snaps, in 2009 he had 22 QB pressures and 4 sacks in 450 snaps, in 2010 he had 58 pressures and 12 sacks in 918 snaps... If you combine his 2008 and 2009 numbers to equal to amount of snaps he had in 2010, it'll show his production has been consistent, it isn't just a contract year wonder.

can't really argue with your thinking, however, until we get something better, you gotta think, experience is a key.. they have experience.

I think we should pay money for only a couple of guys:

A cornerback that will give us 2 shut-downs (or close)
CB Carlos Rogers
-or-
CB Ike Taylor

a pass rusher, i want more guys but this is the only one that stands out
DE Ray Edwards

and 1 more safety
S Eric Weddle
-or-
S Donte Whitner
-or-
S Dawan Landry

and of course more important than all the above- a lasting right tackle:

RT Tyson Clabo

Yes even the big H kind of said that.

If I recall correctly, last year the Browns announced their UDFA signings all together.

The Browns didn't announce any of their signings until well after the deadline last year.

This year looks like it'll be the same.

I'm having a real hard time finding signings. I have seen it posted somewhere else about picking up a LB from Notre Dame but it was not sourced.

I am not going to get in to how we feel Yates or Womack play. While not great players by any means, both are serviceable and give quality minutes IMO.

As for age...O-line is a position where players regularly play in to their late 30's, so each has one more 4 year contract cycle before I would call them old and washed up.

Sure, if we can find something better in both ability and age, sure, do it.....plus, this was as compared to Wright.

I think that guy is done. He's like Lehigh Bodden, he has lost a step, which isn't good for a run and chase corner.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
