Like someone else said, though, if one of the guys that Edwards was hanging with was a convicted felon, he could have some issues with his probation.

Would being on a team with Ray Lewis, Michael Vick or Plaxico Burress be considered a probation violation ? If so, He could not play for the Ravens, Eagles, Jets or for that matter, the Bengals.

This is important because he was pick 22 (Taylor was 21).

Well if you believe the news it is more about the 'fully' Guaranteed aspect, because of Clayborn's contract at 20.

Yeah, that's why it'll be interesting to see what the Colts did regarding guarantees. I mean, Taylor could always argue that his situation is different (if I was his agent, that's what I would do), but the Browns now have some traction to say nope, only 3 yrs guaranteed.

Taylors contract is pretty much done, they just want it fully gaurenteed, and the team doesn't want it fully...

Yup. And pick 20 signed a contract with 4 years guaranteed, and pick 22 signed a contract with 3 years guaranteed, so Taylor is still stuck in the middle. Both sides have an argument, so it'll be interesting how it plays out. I'm not certain this will help end the impasse.

Guarantee 8 games of the 4th year. Simple! I should have been an agent.

This is pretty ridiculous. If they were so sure about him that they traded a third rounder to go get him, why wouldn't you be sure about guaranteeing the 4th year?

While semantics play a role here NFL players do have guaranteed contracts. In comes in the form of their signing bonuses.

A 5 year contract with a $10 million dollar signing bonus = $2 million a year guaranteed just paid up front. Then the annual salary is bonus money for actually playing.

So is it ok that Mangini trade away BE now?

I'd feel so much better about it if Stuckey had just held onto that damn ball...

The Giants reportedly had wanted a first-round pick for disgruntled defensive end Osi Umenyiora. Now, the Giants reportedly want a second-round pick for Osi.

I thought they'd eventually lower their asking price. A second rounder is still a little steep for a team like ours. Especially when you consider the fact that we'll have to give him a new contract. I would definitely do a third rounder and a player. Maybe someone like Ben Watson or Evan Moore. We have some depth at tight end and the Giants might lose Kevin Boss.

That is an intriguing thought. We could still go with Watson, Smith and Cameron it they'd take Moore.

J/C.

Anyone think Bryant Mckinnie who was cut by the Vikings yesterday should be looked at to shore up the right side of the line? If he could get in shape and be gotten on the cheap would he be worth a look see if Pashos goes down?

He's horrible in pass protection but decent in run blocking.

Why? He's only near 400 lbs. When his playing weight is listed at 335.

I remember a lot of people thought we would keep him even though we drafted Marecic. I remember thinking those people were wrong too.

Yeah, I was gonna say something to that effect but you beat me to it. I bet Foster is grinning ear to ear right now.

+1

I think the FO felt Vickers was trending downward and took on too much punishment already for a 2-yr deal. I don't agree with that but I don't make the decisions in Berea. Oh well.

Matt Birk having some knee surgery. Only a few weeks out, but for a 35yo OL that can't be a good thing.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens center Matt Birk is planning to have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in the next few days, according to his agent.

Birk's agent, Joe Linta, says the six-time Pro Bowl center should be able to return in a few weeks.

The Ravens signed former Washington Redskins center Casey Rabach to a two-year contract on Tuesday to back up Birk, who played in all 16 games for Baltimore last year despite having knee problems.

The 35-year-old Birk has not practiced with the team this week, but hopes to be ready for the Sept. 11 opener against Pittsburgh.

I'm not saying we're not ganna use a FB...

But do we really need a pure FB running the WCO?

Green Bay has Kuhn, but he doesn't really fit the pure FB role... He's kind of like Hillis...

If you ignore the fact that they're literally the same size and play the same hybrid fb/hb role... then yes...

I guess some of you guy's must be color blind, because when I look at Hillis all I see is Orange and Brown and yes some white on occasion.

Some of you need to get that checked out

I've learned to temper my anger over moves as the years go by, but this one just makes me angry.

As far as I can tell, Vickers was on the outs because they wanted a more versatile fullback.

a) they had one in Hillis

b) when you're as barren as we are, you don't burn 4th rounders on filling a position that's already adequate. A 4th rounder is a 4th rounder, but we're not even a week into camp and I think it's safe to say that pick would've been better spent for a warm body on the D-line or in the secondary.

We could've used Vickers' run blocking this season.

That said, the guy played like what we think of when we think of true Browns. Definitely a throwback player. I will miss him.

... and then you add the fact that Vickers is replacing Vonta Leach, last years pro bowl fullback for the AFC. You could make a strong argument this isn't really an upgrade for them at all.

1st round DL with foot issues. Thankfully, it's not Phil Taylor (remember that was the rumor on why he slipped).

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP)—The Detroit Lions have sent rookie defensive tackle Nick Fairley(notes) to a specialist for evaluation of his injured left foot.

He’s scheduled to see the specialist in Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday.

The Lombardi Trophy winner for national champion Auburn left practice Monday. Fairley was on the field in a walking cast the following day after X-rays revealed no significant injury.

Coach Jim Schwartz said he expected to know more about Fairley’s condition later Wednesday.
