http://www.profootballweekly.com/2011/07/29/de-mitchell-agrees-to-two-year-deal-with-brownsDE Mitchell agrees to two-year deal with Browns. About the Author Mike Wilkening mwilkening@pfwmedia.comSenior editor .Browns DE Jayme Mitchell has agreed to a two-year deal to return to the club, he told PFW Friday. Mitchell said the "direction of the (Browns') program" and the interest they showed in him were factors in his decision. Mitchell will play left defensive end in the Browns' new 4-3 scheme, he said. The 6-6, 285-pound Mitchell didn't appear in a game with the Browns after Cleveland acquired him via trade in October. He had played his entire career in a 4-3 scheme with Minnesota before being dealt to the Browns. Mitchell, 27, has notched five sacks. He is entering his sixth NFL season. .

If you're Joe Thomas, it's great being paid alot of money, being the best LT in the league and all...
But eventually most people want to win something...
If you don't feel like Cleveland is going to do that for you... You leave...
Sure we could franchise him forever I guess, but do you really want an unhappy LT?
Imo, it's better and more gratifying to do it with the team you have been working towards that end with. We are not all LBJ's.
Seriously I don't foresee that happening. I think it is a high priority for us to get him resigned. I also believe JT is happy with the direction the team is headed. At least he expressed his excitement about playing with Colt McCoy after his rookie season.

I think that there shouldnt be any worrisome speculation on anything as nothing has to be announced til 6pm today. Its possible that whatever work were doing is just behind closed doors.
That being said, i have heard that we reached out to the Giants about Osi Umeniyora because hes unhappy with his contract situation.
I also think Nick Barnett would be a delightful addition to the center of our 4-3...cmon holmy,
"It has to start somewhere It has to start somehow What better place than here? What better time than now?"

So far this FA/Offseason is looking like a massive FAIL to me. Not that I want us to break the bank, but I would like to field a full team of starting caliber players.

Leaving a franchise in free agency that you feel is not making legitimate progress towards contending for a championship doesn't make you an "LBJ".

It's the same thing Calvin Johnson went through I think last offseason?
He made comments about how if Detroit wasn't moving in the right direction, he'd probably not stay there...
Some burned him for it, others agreed...

Well, GB has two first round offensive tackles... JT isn't going anywhere. He will sign an extension and be a Brown for a long time.

So by the time FA officially starts at 6PM will there be any significant talent left to sign?
We'll sign a bunch of third tier guys. Scraps to plug our holes.
How about Roth? Is he gone? Robaire is not worth another year? Are we letting Vickers walk? Is Elam gone? Yates? Wolmack?
These are all guys I thought we'd have inked before 6 if we were keeping them.

It's all hypothetical.
The reason I used LBJ as an example, was because he left a team in the Cavaliers who I don't feel fit the category of a franchise who did not try to do what they felt that they could.

What I think is irrelevant. But I could see how a player who is the best at his position in the NFL could examine his situation and say to himself, "I've played for three different head coaches, several OCs, protected a bunch of stiffs at QB, and our record has been worse every season. I'm going somewhere else." A lot depends on how the team does this season. Personally, I don't think the Browns will meet even my mediocre expectations, but that remains to be seen.

the 3 main guys that I wanted are still available.
Cliff Avril-RFA Dashon Goldson Nick Barnett (assuming we move DQ to WOLB)
as for those you discussed:
Roth - doesn't want to play in a 4-3 Robaire - sure, as DL depth at a cheap rate. noone is going to rush to sign him. Vickers - looks that way (gone) Elam - noone else has signed him yet. Yates - he should be desirable on the market, hopefully we sign. Womack - all indications so far are that he will be back, but no contract yet.

The key word there is TRYING, very few teams in sports don't TRY to get better (Pirates, Clippers come to mind)
But pretty much everyone else is TRYING to get better, but usually, you can tell how far away a team is, and say you're Joe Thomas, and at the point he's a FA, he doesn't feel they are CLOSE ENOUGH, he could go somewhere else...
But we'll probably just tag him anyways...

Yeah but Joe's not going to hold an hour long "me-fest" I wouldn't think that he'd try and string the Browns along all free agency long either.

I stil expect him to land in NE...
But I wonder if his ego has taken a shot that he hasn't signed that huge deal I assumed he was expecting...
(unless he has, and it hasnt been reported, which I doubt...)

why NE? I would have thought Belicheck would check in with Parcells about the problems that Roth caused while he was down there.

Some of you have made valid points, but it's just my opinion. I feel pretty confident that we will get JT locked into a new long term deal. Like I said it's a high priority and if we sit on our hands in FA and yet still do not resign JT (and Hillis), then I'll be joining the let's fire H&H militia

I remember seeing JT say somewhere that he'd like to play one place for his entire career... Don't ask me where I saw it. BUT he is an outdoors type and the fishing is better at a lot of other teams !

are you saying he's going to be a Viking or Seahawk? And we should just be thankful that Portland doesn't have a team?

that just leaves one that has been reported (Baltimore) though I could have sworn that I saw they were out after they re-signed a bunch of their own guys (can't find the link).
or someone we haven't even heard of yet (he seems like a Snyder sign, doesn't he?)

Cleveland Browns sign all of their draft picks except No. 1 Phil Taylor Published: Friday, July 29, 2011, 5:34 PM Updated: Friday, July 29, 2011, 5:55 PM By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer AP The Browns were hoping to get Phil Taylor signed and in camp on time. CLEVELAND -- On reporting at Browns training camp, the club has signed all of its draft picks so far except for first-round pick Phil Taylor. And the two sides were working hard to get Taylor in on time too. Players were due to report Friday night and take the field for the first time on Saturday morning. The session is closed to the public. On Friday, the Browns signed tight end Jordan Cameron, fullback Owen Marecic, cornerback Buster Skrine, offensive tackle Jason Pinkston and safety Eric Hagg. The team's two second-round picks, defensive end Jabaal Sheard and receiver Greg Little, agreed to terms on Thursday. Taylor kidded in a tweet: "Dam. Lockout is over. Contract can't be that hard. Lol.'' © 2011 cleveland.com. All rights reserved. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2011/07/cleveland_browns_sign_all_of_t.html

There's lot's of good hunting and fishing in Ohio. World class smallmouth, walleye and steelhead fishing on lake erie. Tons of good muskie and largemouth fishing in the inland lakes and reservoirs. Great deer hunting with huge bucks, good turkey and small game hunting. He can fish for salmon when he goes home to visit the folks. I don't think the lack of outdoor sports is a factor.

Hmmm, that's interesting.
Currently I'm sitting on my hands and awaiting confirmation that we signed one of our FA (DE's) to a two year contract.

Agreed, and I can't imagine it,in the least, Damanshot. We got enough uphill issues with new coaches and new systems and new faces to be all the speed bumps we need for disappointment IMO. But setting out to tank? No way. Great coaches won't. Play 'em all tough.

I think you are getting close.
Not to get in to total details here, but I talked at length 2 season ago to Joe Thomas' Grandmother, Aunt, and Uncle at a hotel at which I was staying.
When I said I hoped he played his entire career here, the comments were about it would be nice if the team won a few games.
Winning is going to be a big factor in Joe's decision.
I doubt we sign him anytime soon. I think he wants to see the direction the team takes before he makes that decision.
My guess is we are going to have to show promise or tag him before he signs a new contract.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Cam Newton signed for a total that I think was less than Sam Bradfords signing bonus...
EDIT:
Looked it up...
Sam Bradford 50 mil garenteed...
Cam Newton 22 mil TOTAL (fully garenteed)...

I stand corrected. His signing bonus was $24 million, still more than Newton's entire deal.
