Yeah, there were definitely some way off passes with Colt... Not sure if I was leading too much or just random.

I have no problems with Colt. I even light up the house with Wallace. So far Robiskie is my hot receiver.

Well me, I'm doing a great job at passing. especially up the middle with Watson and A. Smith. I'm deadly accurate on slant routes. My curls routes are ok. Right now I'm playing on Pro to get used to the controls. I never played Madden 11.

Also, have you guys played franchise with the Browns yet? How do you like your rainning home games!? lol. They need to patch that ASAP! Oh the commentary...LOL! I think the passed the pipe before each game, IDK.

Watson and Moore ALWAYS drop my passes.. lol.. I just started an online franchise and the first game against the Bengals was in RAIN. lol. And they downgraded the commentary from last year.. half of the game is silence now.

Get use to that, all of your home games will be rain rain rain, lol. I read its the same for Miami, Kansas City, Oakland and another team I can't remember right now. Watson and Moore catch good for me. Alex Smith be catching hot ones for me

Marecic catches everything out of the backfield for me, the counter play left with Hillis is almost unstoppable. Since I moved Little into the starting lineup the crossing patterns seem to work now, he's #10 and that is killing me.

General Reply:

I've always wanted a football game (never bought one before), so I figured one with a Brown on the front would be a great time to buy in.

I am blown away by how complicated the controls are. I understand that the game is set up for those that have had previous Maddens. Maybe it's because I haven't played a sports video game in a while, but I feel like the learning curve is pretty brutal.

That being said, I think I'm catching on. The first thing that really hurt me was the timing on passing the ball. I'm still late throwing the ball, but I'm getting much better there.

My main problem is defending the pass. I have the hardest time lining up my DB, and it's pretty much impossible for me to bat the ball away. Always miss, even on the rare occasion my guy is in the right position. I compensate by blitzing a TON. Also, my tackling is pretty poor. I whiff quite often.

Any tips on pass defense and tackling would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, the amount of rain games are absolutely insane right now. I'm not having too many troubles passing the ball, although its certainly not easy. I'm playing my franchise on all pro and I'm currently 4-0. I'm not sure if I need to upgrade the difficulty of the CPU or not, maybe pretty soon. My main weapons on offense are Watson, gashing defenses with Hillis(he is almost unstoppable), quicker passes and slants to receivers, and more. Anyone else have to create Armond Smith, lol? I think I made him in noel divine's body in the free agency pool and just changed his name, etc.

You're probably already doing this, but are you choosing the right defenses that match with the number of WR's, RB's, TE's that the CPU chose? You know, for example, if the CPU selected a play with 3 or 4 WR sometimes I go to cover 3, coverage blitzes, or prefer to go to nickel, dime, another formation. Another thing I recommend is not using speed(unless you're coming from far away) when trying to engage the ball carrier to make a tackle. Hopefully if you at least slow down the ball carrier when trying to make the tackle other players will swarm the ball carrier and wrap him up along with you.

To break up passes: Now you know you can't defend every pass, so if you have a QB who throws a lot of accurate short passes, try to hit the WR with the hit stick or get close to interfere. Now with QB's like p. manning, rogers, or brees, I try to blitz when I can because I know they seem to be able to pick me apart no matter what coverage I choose.

My defense is good, and my passing in decent, but I can't run the ball to save my life. Hillis will gain 3 yards, then get hit in the backfield 2 straight plays. Some plays Hillis gets hit hit right after getting the ball.

I play on All-Pro as well.

Cool, I'll give that tackling tip a try.

As for play selection, I'm not knowledgeable enough about the game to know what plays to pick, so Mr. Madden tells me what to do.

Every once in a while I'll go outside of ask Madden and dial up a play of my own, but only on offense right now.

I'll say it again, I haven't played a sports video game in a while. I'm blown away by how detailed the game is. I think the last football game I played was the first 'Blitz' for N64...

in older versions of madden, there was a button you could press to face the LOS which helped a lot in knocking passes down. Does that still exist?

Strafe, I believe is L-Trigger for Defenders, but I don't believe it works for Offensive players...

I'm the exact opposite. I can't figure out what to do on Defense. In NCAA 2009, I could edge rush like crazy and always get pressure. Now, I just suck up offensive linemen like a magnent, and can't do much of anything except chase down guys after they get the ball.

On offense, I can't seem to pass anything further than 5 yards. It's like I'm Brady Quinn or something. Anything over that, and a linebacker will swat it down, or a DB will close on it and break up the pass. I used to eat teams up with crossing routes in NCAA, but here everything gets closed down immediatly after I catch it.

So the only thing I can do is run it. *IF* I can get past the line of scrimmage (30% of the time, I'm getting hit as I take the handoff) ... I can usually bust off a good 8 yards or more, unless the WR whiffs on his block.

Currently, I'm playing Super-Star mode more than my Francise mode. I was drafted by the Colts, who couldn't run block to save their lives ... so I demanded a trade to the Browns, where I'm doing a little better.

in ncaa games, i never used to be able to get to the passer playing on the d-line. now in 2011, i get to the qb so much that my end usually leads the ncaa in sacks on heisman setting.

all i do is use the right thumb stick (xbox) and push it to the left or right to swim move thru the line. works like a charm. it works even better if you play as the DT and shift your guy so you are right on the centers right shoulder. i dont know why, but i have like a 90% success rate when i am the DT right over the center's right shoulder

Auto Strafe can come back and bite you though... Say your trying to run from sideline to sideline to get to the ball/carrier, and it makes you strafe all the way there unless you hit burst...

The rain games are ridiculous. Was this a mistake by EA?

Starting to get the hang of throwing the ball although I really struggle with the deep ball. Hillis is unstopable for me. Robiskie is my go to guy in the redszone.

Yes it a glitch by EA. They are "working" on it. Six teams are affected buy this down pour: Cleveland, Oakland, Miami, Kansas City and two others I forget.

I been playing on pro and its rough. Passing is not that bad for me. It just the linebackers that got hops like a CB that gets in my way of the bullets sometimes. Robo is also my reciever. Little, Moore and Watson are nice too. Haden and Buster Skrine are my best CBs so far.

My defense isn't bad. I just gotta protect the middle more.

Yeah, it seems like LBs knock down an inordinate amount of passes in All-Pro...

I don't like how Cribbs is 79, but his catch is 69.. he drops so many passes I had to put him as my 4th WR.

I just wanted to share something on here because it was the first time this happened to me on madden. This was a nice surprise and kind of unexpected. I was in franchise practice mode practicing some longer pass plays with the ball at the 40 and I threw a long crossing route to Little and he proceeded to dive in mid air for the ball right in front of the DB, come down realistically hard and roll into the end zone. Normally, I don't share plays, but that was just so cool looking I had too.

I remember last year the first time someone got tackled and it LOOKED like a face mask, I yelled it out loud, and then the WR got up and grabbed at his face mask...

I thought that was the coolest thing...

It's the little things like that, that impress me more than the new mods or whatever usually...

Is anyone else frustrated with the passing? They could really stand to fix the system... I've played over 30 games and haven't had a single defensive P.I. call, no matter what.

I want the Cleveland Browns to be my pallbearers so they can let me down for the last time.

I've not played Madden, but I've played 6.5 seasons on NCAA 12 Road to Glory. I've never seen a DPI.

Another thing that irks me, I've had LBs bat down passes form 10-15 yards in front of my WRs.

- this, this is the biggest flaw every year in the NCAA games.

this is just a general reply:

in the game settings, i always up the slider for defensive and offensive pass interference calls, roughing the passer, kicker, etc and turn down the slider for chop blocks, holding, etc (things you have no control over)

it will change the way the game plays. i find it plays more smoothly and more times than not, dpi or opi gets called when its blatant

I'm in year 3 of my Bills franchise and after blowing up the team, my drafted QB is doing very well; but I think CJ Spiller is a bust for me, he's still 81 OVR and has been averaging ~3.6 YPC

every year its the same, I start as the browns; but fail at GMing because im a homer. so i take the bills because their a northern cold weather team and I really don't care at all about their players... but man the Bills Oline was TERRIBLE. Nothing but 70 OVRs across the board. I've been investing hard in that area and the only holes left are LT and C so i feel better about it, but past few years were hard on my QB with blitzes up the middle...

I do like alot of the franchise changing. Drafting is REALLY hard now. I'm able to draft first rounders pretty well but im about 50/50 on rounds 2 and 3, and I don't think I have anyone after that thats any use beyond depth/special teams. which I guess is how it goes for later rounds. I wanna get better at my draft pick bust rate on rounds 2 and 3 though

I usually play 6-8 reg season games and usually playoffs. This way I can get some interesting surprises along the way like a player getting injured or something then I have to put my GM hat on and find someone on the wire, etc

No. It is a permanent setting. I read that if you turn it off before you start a franchise, it wont be on. Don't quote me on it because I haven't tried myself.

I stopped playing Madden 12 due to the fact it rains constantly during the Browns home games. I hope this "patch they are working on" fixes this problem. If not, I'm trading this game back in and going back to Madden 10.

Yeah, I'm one of those guys where everything from the roster down to what a certain player is wearing has to be mostly right. May be anal, but that's the way I am. Of course I am still wondering where the orange pants with brown jersey combination are, I want those so bad!

I love GM'ing in franchise mode. I play all the games though so it takes me a bit of time. I really looking foward to any trade fix. I've always hated the way trades work in Madden. I hope drafting isn't too hard like one poster stated. I usually stick to the 2 or 3 solid free agents and build through draft.

drafting is much harder than in years past

I needed to really bolster up my WR corps and grab a CB, so i heavily invested my scouts into those two positions w/ the hopes of grabbing some in the first three rounds. I ended up going WR, CB, WR

My third round WR is the same OVR, but has higher potential and 98 SPD, whereas the 1st round WR is lower potential and 90 SPD

Same w/ OL. I have an AWESOME RT i drafted in the 4th round, yet my 2nd round LT had to be replaced two years in because he was regressing hardcore

You just have to scout as much as you can; the later rounds become a real crapshoot because its not really feasible to spend too much scout time on 4th round and later prospects, but sometimes you get lucky and get a real gem. Frankly i think it models real drafting as best as madden has ever done.

If you want to draft the best players in Madden 2012 just follow this guide:

Draft Guide

It's pretty much a cheat but with the 2012 draft being so hard to really hit on players it kind of evens the playing field with the advantage being on your side. Kind of takes the fun out of it but I find Madden 2012 to be full of so many bugs it ain't funny. Almost all of the Top 10 picks seem to be busts at least with this guide it stops that from happening. You still won't know their overall until the preseason unless you do the individual pro days but you'll know their potential for growth.
