That's what I've been saying all along.

Kid's gonna be our slot guy this year .... watch and see.

OK thanks,.... as an aside, why doesn't the Browns' official site have a link to the roster on the main page... or any page for that matter (that I could find with a quick search)?

I know it's extremely early, but I already have a bad feeling about this season.

Me too.

Some young guys are going to really need to step up.

And Colt is going to have to be the real deal.

So far it sounds like Jarrett Brown has been the best QB in camp with Colt struggling a little bit. Hopefully, Colt is just a gamer. But he needs to be the guy for us to have any shot at competitiveness this year.

It would have been nice if we had gotten him a receiver.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

I'd expect, with the new offense based on timing, that the guys with the big arms would look more impressive while a guy like Colt, who is based on accuracy and timing, would look a bit off.

Here's to hoping, at least.

you had a good run Hank.

Hey, I'm not at all hung up on McCoy,, if Jarrett beats him out, I'd have no problem with it. I just want the best guy to start..

We should be happy if we have a guy who can beat out Colt.

Or we should be happy to have guys behind McCoy who could get the job done if called on.

That's quite a departure from what we have been accustom to with our Browns.

Slot is about the only place I see him playing... hopefully he can be a wes welker type of player... I just can't get too excited about a 5'11 WR that I've never seen play...

For WAY too long, the only WR we have been able to get excited about, are the ones we haven't seen play yet.

And QBs,

And D-lineman

And LBs.

Running back with just one recent exception.

Watched the raw practice footage video from the main site.

For some reason, it seems to me that our defense is really fired up. At one point, it looked like TJ Ward intercepted a pass, and when the play was over, he threw the ball like he was really pumped up. I dig that kind of enthusiasm.

Well, the "beauty" of it is that if he does struggle, I have quite a bit of confidence in Seneca. Heck, if Seneca didn't get hurt last year, I really think things would have turned out differently. He was starting to get in the groove.

this.

and I'm pretty excited that TJ Ward is so confident. I hope his confidence shows in his play on Sundays and he helps us win games.

There was nothing but a very brief blurb about Wallace looking comfortable. He's fully expecting to compete for #1, and if he's clearly the better qb in preseason he should get the nod. If that were to happen though, the Colt chants will probably start with his first miscue.

Let me fix this for you....

Well, the "beauty" of it is that if he does struggle, we'll lose 12-15 games and we'll be in position to draft Andrew Luck

I'd be worried plenty if Wallace got the starting job. Frankly, I'm not that crazy about him as a QB.

Solid enough backup and he can do some things, but if Colt can't beat him out then it wouldn't bode well for Colt in the short term, nor would it make me feel good about our QB situation.

I think I agree with you to a point.

If Colt didn't have to start last year, then I think you would be 100% correct. Since Colt did start, played well, and finished the year as the starter, I don't think you can go back to having him sit the bench.

He's either on as the starter or off the team. No flipping back and forth.

I also just happened to be poking around si.com and read through this little article.

Sam Bradford seems to be in the same situation as our Colt. He also received a playbook but the article made it seem like just having the playbook wasn't enough. He had to go and talk to Weis in Florida to see what McDaniels is going to do in St. Louis. I never read about Colt reaching out to gain a better understanding of the playbook he was handed, so that leads us to 1 of 2 questions.

Did Colt actually grasp the playbook enough to teach it to the rest of the offense?

If he didn't, is the offense better off having gone through the Camp Colts?

Just curious

I've read ome stuff that has said that our new offense is similar to stuff he ran at Texas... so I wonder if he did get a good grasp on it... wouldn't be surprised if he did reach out to people though if there was stuff he didn't understand and it just wasn't reported....

IIRC Colt was said to have pick Brett Farve's brain this offseason and also Wallace who was probably a big help to him.

Oooooh, Wallace.... Good point. Plus Wallace was active in those player workouts. He was probably the best resource available and he was right there.

I heard the same things about Favre but couldn't remember where they came from. I couldn't find any articles on the internet linking the two.

I've said all along that everything I have heard/read from Heckert regarding Norwood has been incredibly positive.

He's also, as Heckert said today, something they don't have in the other guys.

I am not blowing anything out of proportion. I am just saying we shouldn't get all defensive of Colt if someone shows up and is a better player, be it this year or ten years from now.

How is Ventrone even still on the 90-man?

if he makes this team, something is wrong..

He is one of the best special teams players in the league. He was the second alternate for the AFC pro bowl team as a special teams player last season. He's very well respected in the league for his special teams play. Every team keeps special teams guys like that. Ventrone will make the team and dress for every game just like he did all last season.

While he is a great special teams player he is nothing more than that. He was killed when he was forced to play defense last year. And while having a great special teams player is important they are not that hard to find. We might be better off trying to find a player who can also play a position potentially.

I remember Ventrone getting absolutely abused by Marcedes Lewis in the Jacksonville game last year.

I like him as a special teams player, but he should not be playing meaningful snaps for the defense.

Yeah, it was really sad. Like when the 11-year-old cousin holds the ball up in the air when the 6-year-old cousin keeps jumping up at it.

I'm pretty sure that could be said about any third string guy.

If we're relying on Ventrone, that means some bad stuff has happened up to that point. I don't think the coaching staff is really looking at him like "boy, I'm going to put that guy in on big 3rd downs!"
