Patterson was a great pick up. Has a great opportunity to start opposite Haden.
Now get some DL depth and a punter.
I will be quite sad if Patterson gets significant playing time. He is not a good player and was ranked as the 24th worst in the NFL.
Ya I saw that article too
There are plenty a player in the league that never see the field let alone have the opportunity to start for a team.

this is awfully fishy. Hodges posts about playing basketball a lot on hi...
He is known for playing basketball a lot. I wonder if he had an injury he was covering up till he got to camp? I certainly hope not.
It was whispered by profootballtalk.com that is what happened to the big free agent center who never played a down for the Browns did. : it was rumored he blew out his knee playing basketball then showed up to training camp and crumpled to the field on the first play. I think teams should investigate in the same manner as Insurance fraud.

For what its worth, nobody could pull this off- hide a ruptured achilles tendon or hide a ruptured patella tendon. Its just not going to happen no matter how tough the player.

My first instinct would be to agree with you, that no one could hide such an injury.
However, with the major dollars involved, and the potent medications available to these guys, I wonder if it just might be possible.
Or is it just another case of crap happening to the Browns?

I tried searching for it,,, couldn't find it. Probably looking in the wrong place.
But LeCharles Bentley did try legal action against the Browns.,., Don't remember the details or the outcome (if it's even been decided yet) But, if this is accurate and there is some kinda question as to when he actually hurt his knee, you'd think it would be front page news not something that was whispered..
That kinda tells me that while it may have been speculated, it wasn't proven..

jc The Cleveland Browns today signed unrestricted free agent defensive back Dimitri Patterson, who spent the past two years with the Philadelphia Eagles. The club also signed free agent punter Richmond McGee and undrafted free agent linebackers Archie Donald and Eric Gordon. In addition, the team placed punter Reggie Hodges on injured reserve and waived linebackers Derrick Addai and Alex Wujciak. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...7a-28b75e1eddc8Hmm, thought Wujciak would stick a while...guess too many MLBs....the 2 new LB fit the smal and qucik "Ewok"-mold I expected for OLB...Gordon actually was a fringe late round talent...surprised he wasn't signed yet

Gordon would have been drafted if not for him being slightly under 6 feet tall. He has some versatility, but the UDFA LB who I feel has a good chance to stick with the team (in part due to a lack of veteran talent at LB) is Brian Smith from ND. He doesn't fit the smaller speedy mold, but he was the emotional leader for that defense and always seemed to be around the ball.
Smith is probably better suited to the SAM position and could develop behind Fujita.
Our Wil LBer is the one I have the most concerns about. I just don't think it's a good fit for Gocong. Maiava will be a player who I will be looking at very closely in preseason and my hope is that he will show enough to squash my concerns. Depth will be a concern all season I think with our LBer squad.

It's just a name (obviously from Star Wars) I came up with several years ago watching the Colt's D....undersized but quick defenders, gangtackling...especially at LB, 230-250lbs max....it's somewhat what I expect on the new Browns D...not exactly the same but similar in philosophy
Dqwell and Maiava obviously fit that mold...Gocong and Fujita not so much but Fujita is a SLB fit, he is listed lighter than Gocong although haveing 3 inches on him

It should be noted that Fujita did play really well in NO who ran a 4-3 at the time.
That being said, Gocong shouldn't be anywhere near starting in a 4-3 and hope someone unseats him.
you had a good run Hank.

I'm going to continue to pimp Kaluka as our emerging player this year. IF he gets the shot, he's gonna shine.

BTW, we still have two open spots on our (88) 90 player roster.

Seeing as how he is their starting SS, I doubt it.
Plus, we need a FS, not a SS.

They may lay some night hits, but Mays was terrible in coverage in college. I would look at him at LB before I would bring him in as a FS.

he can play, but he can't cover. I'd be tempted at a discount price, which won't happen.

if we are going to steal a 49er S, then we should sign Goldson (bonus: no draft pick compensation for SF and we get the better player)

Sorry, i hadn't seen him being available. My post was at 3:38. PFT posted it at 3:39.
And like you said, I don't want him. I would maybe give up a late round pick to try at LB, but even then I'm hesitant.

Interesting thought. Wasn't Urlacher a safety/Lb hybrid in college or am I thinking of someone else?
Would you put Mays at the Mike, Will or Sam and why would he fit that Lb position better than the others?

that had to be three years ago at least probably 4. It was when I first started going to profootball talk.com that always seemed the first to scoop stories. I like their writing and generally do not seem to have an axe to grind. Oh it was about leCharles Bently.

What the heck is up with that guy. He was a Thorpe award finalist, a supposed upper first round pick, dropped to the second round in the draft and now the niners want to dump him? I realize he has coverage issues, but he's 6'3, 230 with a good work ethic and can lay the lumber. Seems like he'd be worth taking a chance on.
