ST= 3 slots
That will leave 25 spots on O and 25 on D

QB =3
OL= 8
WR= 5
TE= 4 Moore and Cameron are like having 2 more receivers
RB= 4 with these backs again it is having additional receivers
FB = 1 backup goes on PS

4 DEs
5 DTs
7 LB
4 Safeties
5 Corners

Agree for the most part but I think we'll go 9 OL and just 3 RBs on Offense (Smith wouldnt see the field anyway, and no need to "protect" a UDFA RB...there are tons of bigger names that'll get cut...he goes to PS and gets added if a RB goes down)

On D I just see 4 DTs and 1 more DE or LB or hybrid like A.English

Question for anyone / everyone:

Why not carry 2 QBs with Cribbs as the emergency 3rd QB? Put Brown on the PS.

Just don't know why we would carry 3 QBs on the active roster when that spot could be used for something more important.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

I would be absolutely stunned to see us keep 7 LB in a 4-3 alignment.

I would also be completely stunned to see an offensive minded coach keep only 5 WRs. (especially when 1 is your primary kick returner) I see a minimum of 6 on the final roster.

I could see 4 TE ....... if we ran last year's offense. I think that we'll see 3 on the final roster.

well, we could end up in a situation like Miami last year where they had to run wildcat for a couple series after Penny and Henne were injured. they didn't want to blow their emergency QB until they knew Henne was out, so they ran Ronnie Brown at in a wildcat.

that formation may work well as a changeup, but it's not so good as a fastball (to use all the time - defense adjusts and renders it moot).

I won't be surprised if we carry only 2 QBs. (Funny that I still think that even with Holmgren as the Prez.)

J Brown is not going to play this year unless the two guys ahead of him get hurt IN THE SAME GAME.

We will pick up an old guy off the street before having J Brown start a game where we have a week to prepare for the start of our 3rd QB.

I think we keep 3 QB's. Cribbs is NOT a QB anymore. Jarrett Brown gets the nod as he has impressed during camp.

Thats not a funny thought considering in 99, starter was injured, then Couch was injured for at least 1 game I think = 3rd qb

sometime in 00-03 Kevin Johnson got a start or at least a couple series WR playing QB in reg season.

in circa 2006 the 3rd qb Gradkowski or was it Dorsey? had to prepare for the final 4 or more games of the season. just sayin, its happend before.

And same game injurires? 3 players were hurt on the same stupid SNAP of the ball in a Chicago pre-season game 3 years ago. And Both of the big name LB's were hurt vs Detroit , maybe not same game, circa 2003 , Jamir Miller and the fa pickup from pittsburg, meaning they started the season with Ben Taylor, Andra Davis and forgot his name, same year draft.

And in 91, I think, perhaps 90, they lost about 6 of their original front 7 on defense. So 3rd qb is pretty much a starter on this team, just a matter of being prepared.

Remember that I said I would not be surprised to see us go with 2...surprised being the operative word here. That said...

I have heard that he was impressive. However, we put him on the PS and he stays there for the year.

We put Armond Smith on the PS and someone picks him up.

I'd rather keep A Smith than J Brown if it comes to that.

To Throw Long:

We aren't winning the Division this year...if 2 QBs get hurt in one game, we still aren't winning the Division this year.

We would play Cribbs until the game was over...then pick up Spurgeon Wynn, Don Strock, Tom Tupa, Charlie Fry, or some other stiff to play in front of J Brown.

J Brown is an intriguing prospect...but not worth risking a talent like A Smith.

Yeah, had the day off and made the trip up. Tressel and Carr are far apart though. Holmgren has been talking to Carr for a while now.

I seriously doubt anyone would pick him up. Hell, I'm suprised we did to begin with. We were the only team to even look at him and that is probably for a good reason. He didn't play badly but he was the 4th back to come into the game and Hardesty didn't play.

True enough. However, with Hardesty's knee being a question mark, we will likely carry an additional back. A Smith has ridiculous speed and looked good running the ball - albeit with the 3rd string. If he can return punts or kicks, I think he becomes a lock for the 53 - even if as a backup to the first PR & KR.

I suppose we could pick up a vet who gets cut later...but I'd bet we carry that extra RB in any event.

I think there is zero risk that we lose J Brown on waivers or the PS. A Smith has a talent that not many have and experience will not develop for later.

Are you counting Maericic as one of the 4 backs? If so, doesn't that make A Smith the 3rd RB behind Hillis & Jackson? (To enter the game.)

Also, I am assuming that we carry only (1) FB.

I just lump them all together...halfbacks, fullbacks, scatbacks...whatever.

We keep 5.

are u serious? So we are going to protect a guy like Smith who will NOT even sniff the field during the regular season? No way that happens. U put Smith on the PS, and if someone takes him, then someone takes him.

I agree, and Like the Coach said he still makes a lot of mistakes, but at least he looks fast doing it LOL.

He will need a year on the practice squad and if another team claims him, then so be it. We can't keep'em all *sigh*

I keep going back and watching that video of Hillis's TD run in the GB game. I love the push our OL got.

Watson's block was key in the execution of that play, because he was able to wall off two defenders long enough for Lauvao to get over and clean out the hole, but the whole line did their part. Pashoes lead his man around the back and the left side including Mack walled off the backside pursuit.

It wasn't perfect (the rookie Marecic could have had better position on the SOLB), but still a thing of beauty.

Hardesty did practice today, but I didn't watch him a whole lot. He did have a wrap on his leg but seemed to be moving around just fine.

As for Tressel, he was without sweatervest today. Crazy.

Also just heard when I got home that the starters are playing the entire 1st half against Detroit.

thx for that tidbit. Hopefully Colt can pick on Eric Wright and make him look bad. haha. I did hear Wright had some groin issues, so he may not even play. I'm pretty sure he will want to though.

McCoy looked very good again. Was accurate from what I saw and also had a pretty nice pass to Alex Smith. Floated just over the defender and right to him. One of the best passes I have seen him make.

Suprised me that with the 1st team, it was Robiskie, Cribbs, and Norwood. I thought it would be Little.

I would give my left kidney if it ensured we re-sign Thomas. I know it isn't a suprise, but he domintes pretty much every lineman he goes against. He seems heavier than he did last training camp, but not at all slower.

Our O-line overall, as it was in the 1st game, was very strong again. If they stay healthy, Hillis tops 1,200 yards.

Phil Taylor is rather large. He looked good today. Looks like he is still thinking too much. He just seems a little slow off the ball sometimes, but it isn't ability, just seems to be thinking about what he should be doing.

Evan Moore will be a weapon this year. I noticed it before, but he looked very good again today. I would be opent o having him out wide, especialyl if Massaquoi starts the year injured.

Probably to keep it warm, and keep it from tightening up on him.

Serious? Yes. Do you think J Brown will even sniff the field? I am saying that I would keep A Smith over losing A Smith and keeping J Brown...and IF we need our 3rd QB to start, we will be picking up a vet off the street. A Smith could play special teams and actually carry the ball if needed and...

I think we are going with 4 RBs because of Hardesty.

I understand that 4th RBs can be found anywhere...but this guy has crazy speed which makes him different and slightly more valuable...a better developmental risk than other RBs. Someone will try and develop that speed...we could use that speed.

A 3rd QB is only valuable if that QB is a guy like McCoy was last year. A "high" draft pick who might someday become a starter or vet who knows he is unlikely to play unless something crazy happens - Brunell, Batch, Lefwich. Pure developmental guys are a dime a dozen unless they possess a special talent or trait.

I would also keep a promising/extra DB over J Brown as well.

Good to hear that it wasn't after practice.

I'm really pumped up about the 2 HB sets we will be running some of with this offense and have been saying I was anticipating this much.
It really puts a lot of pressure on a base defense and often times it can dictate to a defense that they switch to a nickle defense and that can help our rushing attack if we successfully pass out of this set.

we'll see in a few weeks how much the coaches value "speed" over keeping a 3rd QB, especially after last years experience where ALL THREE QB's were injured at some point in the season.

If Brown is not worth keeping, he wouldn't be on this roster, as would anyone else. I understand u love his speed. I actually like the guy too. I hope we keep him. I just think that if we do, Brown won't be the guy cut. The FO will find room somewhere else.

A wrap can be used to keep a joint from tightening up in between reps too.

People probably didn't pay much attention to him after practice. (especially if he want in for treatment after practice ... as would be the norm for a guy coming back from injury.

He probably kept the wrap on during practice to keep the joint warm, rather than wrapping/unwrapping it every time he went on the field.

Because there is no more "emergency QB" spot. You can keep 46 active, as long as that last spot is your 3rd string QB.
