Speaking of also-rans at WR, I wouldn't be surprised if we pick up an ex-Ram after cuts... here's who is on their roster at WR
84 Danario Alexander WR 23 6-5 215 2 Missouri 16 Danny Amendola WR 25 5-11 186 3 Texas Tech 17 Donnie Avery WR 27 5-11 183 4 Houston -- Mark Clayton WR 29 5-10 190 7 Oklahoma 15 Dominique Curry WR 24 6-2 224 2 California (PA) 11 Brandon Gibson WR 24 6-0 210 3 Washington State 81 Mardy Gilyard WR 24 5-11 194 2 Cincinnati 82 Greg Mathews WR 23 6-3 209 1 Michigan 83 *Austin Pettis WR 23 6-3 209 R Boise State 87 *Greg Salas WR 23 6-1 210 R Hawaii 10 Mike Sims-Walker WR 26 6-2 214 5 Central Florida
The bolded guys are the most-notable in my eyes, Alexander and Gilyard will almost certainly be cut.
They just signed Clayton yesterday, they gave MSW a bunch of cash, Avery was their best guy before he was hurt, Amendola was their best guy after Clayton was hurt, and Pettis and Salas are mid-round drafted rookies. Will they keep all six? Are any of the remainders any better than what the bottom of our Corps will be? There's the Shurmur connection, which is mainly why I think they might draw interest.
***edit*** actually, looks like Mardy Gilyard is their preseason receptions leader, so maybe it's not a given that he's gone... they must be dropping one of these guys.
Another Ram who is probably on the bubble who I'd be interested in is George Selvie. They have Robert Quinn behind Chris Long and James Hall. They've also got CJ Ah You on the team.
I'm partial because it's my father's name, but he has had some good games. He's also is a decent special teams guy. Just not sure who I would cut to make room for him.

While some Bucs were unofficially let go Friday, the Bears are the first team to make their cuts official.
They are doing the cuts in waves. 14 players were dropped Friday afternoon, and the list doesn’t include Chester Taylor. Chicago still has to drop 13 more players to get down to the 53-man limit.
Here’s the list: WR Onrea Jones, G Johan Asiata, LB Deron Minor, CB Ryan Jones, WR Jimmy Young, OT Josh Davis, FB Eddie Williams, C Alex Linnenkohl, P Spencer Lanning, LB Chris Johnson, WR Andy Fantuz, LB Tressor Baptiste, CB Antareis Bryan, and LS Jake Laptad.
Most of the players here were undrafted rookies. Jones was once with the Cardinals. Fantuz was a CFL product. Asiata played for the Bears last year.

The majority of roster cuts will take place on Saturday, but some teams will start the process on Friday.
We’ll try to focus on the interesting names that come out, and get you completely caught up on all the moves when they are official.
In Tampa, the Bucs have already let go of three names we recognized. The Bucs have cut defensive tackle John McCargo, defensive end Kyle Moore, and linebacker Tyrone McKenzie already, according to Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times.
McKenzie, a former Patriots second round pick, thought he had a shot to start at middle linebacker. McCargo was once a first-round Bills pick. Moore was the fourth-round pick of Tampa in 2009.
Tampa is pretty stacked at linebacker so anyone they cut at that position is worth a look. one of the few times that might actually let some talent walk at the position. 49ers have some depth there as well.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-cardinalscuts TEMPE, Ariz. (AP)—The Arizona Cardinals have released Ben Graham(notes), the team’s punter since December 2008, and 24 others to get down to the NFL’s 53-man roster limit.
Graham’s release means the punting chores will go to Dave Zastudil(notes), a 10-year NFL veteran.
Among the others cut are quarterback Brodie Croyle(notes), linebacker Will Davis(notes), defensive end Kenny Iwebema(notes), cornerback Fred Bennett(notes), center Ben Claxton(notes), running back William Powell(notes), safety Matt Ware(notes), fullback Reagan Maui’a(notes) and wide receiver Isaiah Williams(notes).
In addition, the Cardinals placed wide receiver Sean Jeffcoat(notes) and guard Floyd “Pork Chop” Womack on injured reserve with shoulder injuries
http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=nfp-20110902_steelers_place_leftwich_on_ir Among the players let go by the Steelers, according to their website, linebackers Baraka Atkins(notes), Mario Harvey(notes), Chris McCoy(notes) and Mortty Ivy(notes), defensive lineman Corbin Bryant(notes), defensive backs Brett Greenwood(notes), Macho Harris(notes), Donovan Warren(notes) and Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith(notes), running backs James Johnson(notes) and John Clay(notes), offensive linemen Colin Miller(notes), Kyle Jolly(notes), John Malecki(notes), Trevis Turner(notes) and Keith Williams(notes), wide receivers Armand Robinson(notes), Wes Lyons(notes) and Tyler Grisham(notes), tight end Jamie McCoy(notes) and kicker Swayze Waters(notes).
"It has to start somewhere It has to start somehow What better place than here? What better time than now?"
Myron Rolle(notes) and Stafon Johnson(notes) were nice feel-good stories for the Tennessee Titans, but neither made a strong enough impact on the football field and now both have been released. They were among 16 players let go by the Titans in cuts made on Friday.
Rolle, the Rhodes Scholar who spent a year away from football at Florida State to study at Oxford, spent last season on the practice squad for the Titans, and this season was clearly in an uphill fight for a job, running third team most of camp and preseason.
Johnson, whose career at Southern Cal was ended with a weightlifting accident that threatened his life, came to Tennessee as an undrafted free agent last season, only to suffer a gruesome ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks that put him out for the season.
Johnson got plenty of work while Chris Johnson was holding out, but was still no better than third or fourth on the depth chart with CJ absent.
In addition to that, the Titans also cut ties with 2010 third-round pick Rennie Curran(notes) had become too small for what the team was looking for in its linebackers. Curran, generously listed at 5-11, was going to be forced to compete for a special teams spot, and that did not work out either.
“There is no doubt that it has affected the linebacker position, especially when a lot of our linebackers are big-time special teamers,” Coach Mike Munchak said. “That is another competition thing going on there because if you are not the starter that becomes a huge thing for us. Can you help us in 12 to 14 plays on special teams?”
Other players released included receivers Michael Preston(notes), Yamon Figurs(notes) and James Kirkendoll(notes), running backs Herb Donaldson(notes), Kestahn Moore(notes) and Joe Tronzo(notes), tight ends Cameron Graham(notes) and Riar Geer(notes), offensive lineman Pat McQuistan(notes) and Thomas Gray(notes), defensive linemen Hall Davis(notes) and Julian Hartsell(notes), and cornerback Lequan Lewis(notes).
The team announced all the cuts except Figurs, but a league source confirmed his release to TitanInsider.com. Figurs had some swelling in his knee that arose in the preseason finale against New Orleans.
couple former Browns on that list

Quote: I wouldnt mind looking at Macho Harris, John Clay (as insurance and I think he's better than Quinn Porter) and Reagan Mauiai
Macho Harris would be good by me. Surprised that he hasn't succeeded in the NFL thus far. Really liked his game in college. A little stiff in the hips though.

I'm up for anyone that makes us faster overall.
We're slooooowwww as a team.
I would like to bring in the Macho Man as well....ohhhhhhhhhhhhyeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
He's a poor man's Laurence Vickers. But that's better than what we have right now.
Here's a fun video of him from Youtube where he's miked up.
He's a physical dude and really transformed himself as a player at UH. When he was young he was like 350. He worked on his body and became an NFL caliber guy over the course of a few years. Hats off to him.
I take it by the rolling eyes you think Marecic is better than Vickers?
If so, you may be one of the few. If he wasn't a Heckert draft pick I doubt he'd survive the cut. And assuming he does (and I do assume he will) I wouldn't take out a long term mortgage if I were him.
"People who drink light 'beer' don't like the taste of beer; they just like to pee a lot."
I almost have to wonder if Clutts might take his spot.
There has been talk that the Browns are happy with the way Marecic has performed in practice, but as Veikune proved, sooner or later you have to show something on the field.

Whats done is done but I wish we would have just kept Vickers and used that 4th for another DE or OG. Because those two ares scare the crap outta me this year. We have almost zero depth at either position, imo.
You don't learn speed and quickness. You simply have to have that. You don't learn a desire to block and to run hard. Those should be inherent at this level.
I have not seen a single thing out of Marecic that says that he is an NFL talent. That is my observation. You can disagree ..... but based on what he's done on the field, you'd have to be watching with your eyes closed to do so.
Name one thing that he's done well so far. Name me one play he's been a part of where he's been a key part. I can remember a lateral that he dropped .... and then let bobble around without even trying to cover it ..... 2 or 3 dropped passes that should never have been dropped, and a pair of runs where a guy with average speed/power gets in ... and he was buried for no gain. I have not seen the great hands he is supposed to have. I have not seen quality blocking. I have not seen football intelligence. In short, I have not seen anything that marks him as a quality NFL starter.
Perhaps you would like to tell me what you have seen that encourages you regarding Marecic, because I haven't seen anything.

Marecic has been a disappointment. I don't care where he was drafted or that he's a rookie.
We got rid a pretty good FB for this kid. If you do that the worst the new guy should do is 75% of the old guy. And that's allowing for the fact he's a rookie and his draft position.
If anyone thinks OM has even come within a mile of Vicker's ability so far I'd love to see the plays I've missed.
I hope the kid ends up being another Peyton Hillis. And not a ham sandwich....

Panthers waived RB Tyrell Sutton. Sutton appeared in just nine games last year, but made his presence known as a third-down back, notching 12 catches for 70 yards while rushing 13 times for 71 yards. With so many thin NFL backfields heading to Week 1, Sutton will be a hot waiver claim. A one-cut runner, he'd fit nicely in a zone-blocking scheme.
Rams released LB Zac Diles. Diles was signed in July with the intention of being the Rams' starting weak-side linebacker, but got outplayed by fellow free agent signing Ben Leber. Diles spent the previous four seasons in Houston, racking up 223 tackles, one sack and one interception. A physical run defender, he should be able to latch on somewhere else.
Vikings released DE Stylez G. White. Whereas some teams are formally announcing cuts in bunches, most of the Vikings' moves are trickling out from beat reporters. White revealed his own release on Twitter. Signed just two weeks ago, White must not have shown anything in practice. The team was hoping he'd fill a need as a nickel rusher.
Jaguars waived RB Albert Young. Young, signed on August 23, gained 21 yards on three preseason carries to go with two receptions. He was outlasted on the roster by UDFA RB DuJuan Harris.
Titans waived LB Rennie Curran, RB Herb Donaldson, TE Riar Geer, RB Stafon Johnson, TE Cameron Graham, OG Thomas Gray, RB Kestahn Moore, CB Lequan Lewis, WR Michael Preston, and FB Joe Tronzo. For now at least, the Titans will carry just three tailbacks on the Week 1 roster, reaffirming that they anticipate Chris Johnson to play a big role early. Curran is an athletic, sideline-to-sideline linebacker, but he just didn't fit the Titans' preference to get bigger in the front seven at 5'11/230. Tampa 2-style teams should be looking to claim him on waivers.

AP Receiver Mardy Gilyard, regarded in 2010 as a promising prospect who slid in the draft, will be realizing any potential he has in a city other than St. Louis.
Howard Balzer of 101sports.com and The Sports Xchange points out that Gilyard has disclosed via his Twitter page that he has been waived.
“Jus got released isshhh is getting real na ugh!!!!” Gilyard said via Twitter.
Per Balzer, agent Brian Ayrault has tweeted that two of his clients — offensive lineman Renardo Foster and linebacker Zac Diles — also have been released by the Rams.
Once made official by the Rams, the moves will create (per Balzer) $2.07 million in cap space.

Jacob Ford was a guy I was interested in all off-season and he re-signed with the Titans. Now he is cut. He is a youngish (28-years-old) defensive who has had trouble staying on the field but has had success as a backup pass rusher when healthy.

Two straight Pro Bowls and 64 appearances in 64 career games ultimately wasn’t enough to save safety Brandon Meriweather. The Patriots have parted ways with the first-round pick from the 2007 draft, according to a league source.
Meriweather’s status had been the subject of rumor and speculation. He recently downplayed to our good buddy Tom Curran of CSNNE.com the fact that coach Bill Belichick had Meriweather playing during garbage time of the preseason finale.
Meriweather, notorious during his time in college for a stomping incident during an on-field brouhaha, was implicated in an offseason shooting. He eventually was cleared by authorities. Last October, he was fined $50,000 for launching head first into Ravens tight end Todd Heap. The fine later was reduced to $40,000.
A four-year veteran, he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
