thanks mostly to KC. minny tried to give chicago the game too but the white sox didn't want it.

5.5 games out on Sept 1st. so, you're saying there's a chance!

what a horrible call. i'll take it, we've been hit with more than a few bad calls all year.

i know this season will end up in disappointment, because of the 30-15 start, the excellent pitching/bullpen, but i have to give a lot of credit to manny acta for somehow keeping them in it this late in the year with all those injuries, and with guys underachieving.

i love the attitude of the team, they just keep going out there and fighting, they have their hearts ripped out by a tough loss and the next day, they are out there playing hard. i was a wedge fan, but his teams would have been stung for at least a week after.

+1

Every angle I've seen has him out by a goof 2 feet, clearly. Oh well, like you said, the ump wanted to get dinner. No problem with that.

Bad news...we have a doubleheader today after a 16-inning game. Good news....The A's are just as tired as we are. Let's take two!

Double header? I don't see that anywhere, thought it was just the noon game today. Are we really playing two more with Oakland today?!?

No DH today for us.

You mean we have to play a doubleheader with no DH?

Well, considering our DH's are Thome (hitting .234) and Hafner (hurt)...it wouldn't really hurt us all that much.

According to the latest injury news....

- Sizemore could return to to the big club tomorrow or this weekend. He DH'd last night and will play 6 innings of CF in AAA today.
- Hafner's injury wasn't as bad as they thought. He could return within a week or so.
- Kipnis' hammy is still a bit tight but he could be back within 7-10 days.

well, technically we'll have a DH, but I get what Punch is getting at... it's gonna be Shelly Duncan.

Lineup today: Carrera cf Fukudome rf Cabrera ss Santana 1b Duncan dh Hannahan 3b Donald 2b Head lf Marson ca Carmona p

That Murderers Row will be facing the A's ace, Gio Gonzalez (11-11, 3.35 ERA). He's 4-0 lifetime against the Indians. We need a big effort from Carmona.

One good omen - according to Tom Hamilton last night, the midges are back at the Jake. Carmona thrives on midges. Too bad Joba Chamberlain isn't pitching for the A's.

It appears that our 7 year old tee ball league level defense has appeared again.

Great job by Hagadone. First major league appearance, comes in with bases loaded on no outs, and only gives up a sac fly. Kept the game somewhat within reach.

Disappointing game ..... but we still won the Oakland series, and that's the key at this point .... just keep winning series.

i'd say the key point is to at least keep pace with Detroit.

hopefully, KC can hold off Detroit (11-8 in the 9th) and then this loss is okay (but just puts more pressure on the Detroit and Chicago series when they come)

Ya can't really blame the pitchers if the bats never gave them a run to work with.

Oh well. We took the series.

And KC FINALLY closed a game against the Tigers.

THere's no excuse getting shutoit by this guy again. He's a good pitcher, but they make this guy look like the best pitcher of all time. I think he's given up 2 runs in over 30 innings of work. That's unacceptable. Guys need to make proper adjustments. The soft tossers always give these guys fits. You just have to take singles, and stay back on the ball, instead of trying to pull everything against guys like Chen, and Gio. When will they learn???

The Tribe leads KC 5-2 going to the 7th ....... but Asdrubal Cabrera is out of the game with a bruised knee after fouling a pitch off.

We have 2 guys playing who actually started the season ...... Santana started at C, but is at 1st base tonight ...... and Hannahan.

The rest are guys who have been brought in, or brought up. (Carrera, Fukudome, Phelps, Thome, Duncan, Donald, and Marson) Our bench is Chisenhall and Head ..... neither of who started the season with the Indians.

Man .... I have no clue how these guys are hanging in there ... but they are. Fukudome has been huge since he came over from the Cubs. He's been a professional hitter no matter where they hit him. I hope this team can do something ... because they are definitely the "never quit" kinda team I want to support.

Report says Carlos Carrasco might need Tommy John surgery: Cleveland Indians Insider
Published: Saturday, September 03, 2011, 12:56 AM     Updated: Saturday, September 03, 2011, 1:07 AM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Carlos Carrasco, the hot and cold right-hander who won a spot in the Indians' rotation out of spring training but had a hard time keeping it because of two trips to the disabled list with a sore right elbow, could be headed for Tommy John surgery on the same elbow.

If he doesn't have the operation, he is almost certainly done for the season.

A report in a Venezuelan newspaper, Linder Deportes, quoted Indians prospect Hector Rondon as saying, "Carlos called me yesterday and told me that it seems they are going to perform Tommy John surgery on him."

Rondon, by the way, missed all this season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. He just started a rehab assignment at Class A Mahoning Valley.

Manager Manny Acta said Carrasco has been visiting different doctors to get opinions on how to proceed with the elbow. He just returned from New York where he was examined by Dr. David Alcheck.

"As far as I know, we're still gathering information and different opinions on Carrasco," Acta said. "A few days ago, he went to see Dr. Alcheck in New York. We haven't made a decision just yet.

"Surgery would be the last resort. He's had a few opinions already."

Acta would not say definitively that Carrasco would not pitch again this season, but added: "It's pretty safe to say that it's going to be tough for us to start him on a throwing program and use him over here. It's already Sept. 2 and he hasn't started throwing yet."

Carrasco made his most recent start Aug. 3 against Boston. He allowed two earned runs in seven innings. The next day he dropped his appeal on the six-game suspension he received for throwing at Billy Butler of Kansas City on July 29.

It was thought Carrasco would serve the six-game suspension and rejoin the rotation, but the Indians placed him on the disabled list Aug. 8 with inflammation in the right elbow and he hasn't thrown since.

When, and if, Carrasco is activated, he must serve his six-game suspension.

Carrasco, 8-9 with a 4.62 ERA in 21 starts, went on the disabled for the first time after leaving an April 24 start against the Twins with elbow tightness after three innings.

Still 5-1/2 out with 27 games to play, although we have jumped the White Sox in the standings. We also play 3 more games than Detroit, and we're only 4 back in the loss column. That's the good news; the bad news is that the extra 3 games will probably be double-headers rescheduled from earlier rain-outs. That means we'll be seeing the likes of Corey Kluber and Zach McAlister starting games of possibly crucial importance. Other good news is that Sizemore and Kipnis are close to coming back, and Choo will return on Sept 12. Verlander won his 21st last night, but now the Tigers have two "meh" starters going against a tough White Sox lineup. It could be a good time to pickup 2 games, cutting it to 3-1/2, heading into our games against the Tigers.

So .... you're saying there's a chance ....?

This team has been through so much, it would take a miracle for them to come all the way back ...... so I guess we're just gonna have to make a miracle.

Well, we beat the immortal Bruce Chen last night, so I suppose anything is possible. I think the "miracle" is that we're still talking Indians' baseball in September, given the team we have out on the field - which is basically the Columbus Clippers.

We still have our bullpen ... and that gives us a chance in any game we can get into the late innings.

If Detroit and Chicago beat each other up, and the Indians take care of their own business, then they can win this thing. It is a miracle that we are still in this race given our injury situations ...... but miracles have to be unlikely to be miracles ...... don't they? lol
