[quote2. He's too quick to break the pocket (which tells me that he's feeling the rush when a rush might not be there)
Just making a general comment...One thing to look at when a QB tucks it and runs is whether or not he looks like he knows where he's supposed to go with the ball.
It's very popular to accept that a QB pulls it down early when he's hearing footsteps, but he isn't always hearing footsteps because of the rush. Sometimes a QB pulls it down and takes off because he simply has no clue where he's supposed to go with the ball. Whether it's the receivers or Colt or both, he isn't always sure where he's supposed to go with the ball IMHO. That will make any QB get happy feet. Nevermind that his line hasn't been very special to this point in the year.

Clemmy, Im gonna hold you to that! Somewhere in one of these threads I think I commented that he needed to make some serious strides by mid-season. This is the point where Colt should make some big strides.

Well... all reports are that He's smart and a quick study... he'll have to be, to meet either your or my timeline.
I confess I'm not a 'sports scientist,' so he could go wither way, from what I know. If we reach the back half of the schedule and Colt's still looking like he does right now, feel free to toss that warmed-over crow upon my plate... it won't be the first time I've had to provide my own ketchup!

No Browns fan should eat crow. We've had nothing to eat but humility and embarrassment for the past decade. But pig out on the ketchup if you so desire, hehe.
I don't have to see McCoy fully grasp the offense in the next five or six games. All I need to see are accurate spirals and the ability to stay on the field. That's all. If he can show he can spin it and be accurate down the field on par with an NFL QB, I can sit back and wait. If he can't, he's just a notch better than Charlie Frye, and not good enough to be a starter in this league.

You've made up your mind about McCoy already Toad.. with that in mind, I think he'd almost have to take the league by storm in order to get your approval. JM (not so humble) O

Well stated.
That's why I don't think you're seeing Robiskie out there. It was puzzling to not see Evan Moore out there more. I'm beginning to wonder if it's some discipline thing. Maybe Moore showed up a couple minutes late to the offices and he's been silently (and without being informed of it) punished. Maybe the same thing with Hillis (for staying out against Miami) due to illness when the front office and some teammates thought he should be able to play.
I'm not sure what it is, but the front office and coaching staff had better get it cleared up fast.
If they cared to ask me, I'd be telling them to get all the TEs in the game (maybe even at the same time on some plays) and create those mismatches.

Not yet, but I'm not that far away. I just don't see anything special about him, and when you're lacking prototype tools, you better be special at something in order to be a bonifide starter.
I held nothing back on Couch, Frye, or Quinn. Trust me...you'll know when I've given up.

anarchy: Digya to death, Dawg.... but regarding the first part of your post: 1. There is NO punishment. 2.There is NO FO leveraging of players. 3. Hillis didn't sit out because of his contract. 4. Evan Moore is a 'hands-only,' no-blocking TE who can't be effectively used in downs that don't feature him as a primary receiver. If he does get stuck in there as a decoy, fans will bitch that he wan't thrown to. 5. The FO said that Hillis was sent home on Thursday for "rest and fluids." 6. It has been reported (more than once) that he wasn't fit to play the Miami game, after being examined by Cleveland Browns Staff. 7. NFLNetwork probed the "story," and found nothing to substatiate the rumors flying about in the local Cleveland press.... and said so- on a national broadcast.8. Josh Cribbs went on record, attesting to the lack of locker room talk about Hillis' mindset, fitness, or commitment to the team. 9. Moore...late for a meeting, and being subsequently "punished" for it... can we say "Stretch Armstrong" here? Moore will be used when the package he's involved with stands the best chance of success, from down to down. 10. Robiskie isn't beeing seen (on TV) because he's not being targeted by Colt for touches. He's on the field, but McCoy is going elsewhere. That's not on the coaches/FO... it's merely a result of the ways plays have worked out so far. IF a chemistry between Colt and Robo gets established, this will become a non-issue. Dawg- it's easy as hell to buy into the crap that folks like Grossi trot out to sell papers/webhits, and run with the 'conspiracy theories.' It's another thing to actually take some time to parce out fact from fiction... and gain your own insight as to what's really happening at 76 Groza. Chances are good that fact and fiction are worlds apart. As for your statement: " get all the TEs in the game..." I think you're right. Each TE that we play has a skill set that is still being worked out for this team at this time.... and the nuts & bolts about how to use them best are still being tested. Colt needs to understand it, too- and work them efficiently... and that's not been worked out (by him) yet, either. Give it some more games, Dawg.... but PLEEEEEEZE Don't give in to the 'cloak & dagger' junk that the lcal media was trotting out a week ago. That crap is old ( an now debunked) news. .02

Have you read what you've written? I mean, come on Toad,, two games in, you came out beating McCoy to death. I might add that was your first post in quite a while.
No NO my friend,, you have indeed made up your mind. You don't believe in McCoy at all,, not even a little.
And it's perfectly ok,, I'd prefer you wait longer to make up your mind,, but hey,, to each his own I guess...

I agree but it has been bandied about.

I don't mind that he's not a blocking TE. I want him out there as a receiving threat anyway. Our receiving corps isn't getting the job done. We have Watson on the team and he blocks very well.
Prior to the game against the Dolphins, TEs Moore & Watson were the only receivers to have caught touchdown passes. Even now, the leading targets are Watson & Hillis (who was out a game).

5. The FO said that Hillis was sent home on Thursday for "rest and fluids."
And we agree. I'm just saying what else has been reported.

Maybe there is nothing to the rumors and I believe that you're right. Just saying that the rumors are out there. Evan Moore was noticeably unhappy about not being used more in the passing game.

8. Josh Cribbs went on record, attesting to the lack of locker room talk about Hillis' mindset, fitness, or commitment to the team.
Good, but what is he expected to say?

When your team is dominating the opposing team but your still losing, something should give you the idea that something wasn't right.
I posted that only as speculation. Maybe he was just no in the game plan. If that was the case, maybe the coaching staff should have made alterations to the game plan. Maybe he had just had a bad week of practices and Shurmur didn't have confidence in him.
But, since we don't really know, all we can do is speculate and that's what I've done.

Even if he's on the field but he's not being thrown to, that means he's invisible. Either he isn't be utilized effectively or he's not being thrown to because his development sucks.

I don't read anything by Grossi and when I do hear him on STO, I almost always comment on how effing stupid he is.

I can agree with that. The TEs we have are the most potent tool we have, even more than Hillis.

Waaay to early to evaluate a kid with spotty blocking, and the worst set of wrs in the NFL with barely 10 games a starter. I just want to see improvement. Which is why i was never a DA or a Couch fan..same lunkhead mistakes season after season.
AS the browns mesh More, Cribbs, the rookie WR into the offense more and the oline develops better consistency I believe Colt will rep the benefits and the offense will improve. He is a young QB with rough spots, no surprise there.

Maybe if he tried throwing left handed....yeah. I think that's his problem. Throw it left handed, and we'll be fine.

Quiet, idiot.
Two weeks to prepare and this is what Dolt gave us. Make no mistake about it....he had open receivers out there today. Some were WIDE open.
Some of what's going on to the offense as a whole is because of the newer system and youth, but there isn't anything that can excuse some of the terrible decisions and throws McCoy is making. Nothing.
It's time for the media to start handing the blame EVERYWHERE it's due. They've been kind to McCoy while sticking it to the rest of the team, but they can't continue on. It'll be blatant and obvious Homerism.......

Ditto goes for some of the people on this board who believe they are giving all knowing football knowledge to the masses of the rest of us idiots on this board.
This thread is going to be as epic as the Couch threads. Maybe more so by the time it is all said and done. I just hope our team of choice brings home a winner in that span of time..........Like before I die.

Nah, only one page lest before it has to be locked.
Actually, part of the problem is the title of the thread, hehe. If the title was "Colt McCoy: The kind of guy you want your daughter to marry, but is he good enough to be a viable starter?" It'd have a different feel to it.
(Oh yeah, and if he were somehow actually answering more questions than he's creating....)

What I find funny is this ......
People say that the receivers can't get open .... somehow ..... against single coverage when teams are bringing pressure.
However .... somehow .... when we are in garbage time, and teams drops extra players into coverage vs pass rush .... well ... somehow .... then .... guy somehow "get open", and McCoy completes passes.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

I think today went a long way into quieting those who don't believe our receivers are open. There were just too many instances where we CLEARLY saw guys open, and the ball missing them by a wide margin.
Sad part is that his numbers don't begin to tell the story of just how poorly he threw the ball today, which will lead to more excuse making and deniability.

No kidding.....his fantasy numbers looked great, but those of us who watched the game know he played like crap.
We need a friggen QB who plays 4 qtrs....not another Couch who plays like crap for 3 qtrs, then in garbage time manages to pad the numbers when teams are happy to give up 15 yard passes over the middle to keep the clock moving.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong
