At any rate, it's time to cut the kid a break.....he punted well in pre-season....this wasn't a case of choking, he had a problem on Sunday that went beyond not kicking well.

Does it matter to you???

Yes, I think it does.....and he should.

The guy was out there kicking with numb legs.....why shouldn't he get paid??

I was just going to say how it looks like the organization is treating him right by putting him on IR instead of just cutting him.

Well...Hodges may not make it back for next...who knows? Achilles are ugly injured.

My question is this: WHY did we send out a Punter who cannot feel his legs!!!!

Goodness...two of the things that beat us were completely in the Coaches control.

Makes me wonder who our backup punter is. Also makes me wonder if this story is true.

I have no reason to think it isn't, but I'm just naturally cynical.

Of course we didn't know about the injury until today. And, if true, then I applaud the man for sucking it up and "attempting" to punt anyway...but man punter or not, if you have a back disk issue shouldn't you be telling the coaching staff and/or the coaching staff tells you to sit down?

What good did it do (as courageous as it was on his part...I can't imagine trying to punt from your own endzone with 280 lb men that run a 4.6 40 barreling straight at you all with a back injury!) to send a hobbled punter out there to boot it 20 yards off the side of his foot? Couldn't the backup punter, whomever the heck that is....Dawson? Let Seneca pooch kick it? Let Ahtyba Rubin take a swing?...do just as well?

Anyway I wasn't impressed with "Shanks" in the pre-season either when he was supposedly healthy. Way way way too inconsistent. Either way, thanks for your courage Shanks, I hope you heal up...and welcome Maynard. Don't suck. Our ability to have Cribbs break big returns and our punter pin the opponent deep are two of our only (minimal) weapons.

Oh I know, we can make Artis Hicks our backup punter! That way at least he'll earn his game check .

My guess is the kid probably didn't say anything.

Opening day....your big day....I don't say anything either and neither do you.

Nobody else was going to punt any or much better....a 32 yard punt is really a 47 yard kick......nobody here is going to beat that by much.

This wasn't choking.....look at it this way, kickers probably face their toughest competition in pre-season...those kids are trying to make a name by blocking a kick.

Nope...the story is true....strange but true. I am sure the Browns checked the situation. They aren't just going to give him a years pay.

The kid screwed up his back.

If all that needed to be considered was average then any big leg punter could kick in the NFL. Fortunately, things like inopportune shanks, inconsistency and an inability to put it inside the 20 are also factors.

It's not just about average...

Green Bay: 2 of 3 inside the 10. Short kick was 42 yards.
Detroit: 4 of 8 inside the 20. Short kick was 29. Second shortest was 40.
Philly: 2 of 5 inside the 20. Short kick was 35. Second shortest was 45. Two 55+.
Chicago: None inside the 20, but furthest downfield he kicked was from the CLE 28 yard line. Short kick was 41. Long was 60.

2 punts less than 40 yards. 6 punts over 50 yards. Out of 22 total. 50% inside the 20 regardless of field position, excluding the Chicago game, where his shortest punt would have had to go 52 yards to make it to the 20.

Thanks for the effort.

That pretty much ends the talk about him not kicking well in pre-season.....or, it should end the talk.

What you don't forgive him? It's a phrase used all the time.

I'm sure they all care about what you have to say...

If he did indeed tough it out though injured, I will credit him that. He wanted to do his jib, props to him.

But if he is injured to the point where his play is detrimental to the team, then he needs to be a team player and let the coaches know that all he will do is hurt the team if he keeps playing. We have to have an emergency punter on the roster for such a situation. Maybe Dawson?

I think they allow you to do like in backyard football where you can just throw it instead of punt it.

And with McCoy as our QB, he'd probably have the same net average as McGee did.

I vote for Phil Taylor. The guy has tree trunks for legs, he's gotta be able to boom a few punts

Seriously? YOU are getting on a guy about having his knickers in a knot?
