I'm not wrong.
The ITU designates HSPA+ as a 4G standard. Therefore it is 4G. This is my job to know this stuff for Christ sakes.
I got 7.3 Mbps down doing a SpeedTest today. Those are 4G speeds. The 4S is 4G. Accept it.

What is it exactly that you do?

The ITU designates HSPA+ as a 4G standard.
The ITU initially stated that HSPA+ was NOT 4G. It amended its position in the wake of the major US cell providers designating their 3G networks that were capable of high speeds as "4G". The ITU's definition of "4G" at this point will carry about as much weight as a wet facial tissue.
I've gotten close to 6 Mbps down on my iPhone 4. 7.3 is nothing to get terribly excited over.

If the company says it's 4G, then it's 4G.
Therefore, it's 4G.

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever read. The company pushing the product says its true, so it must be true? Those may be your company marching orders, but its not reality.

LMAO....
Come on Ammo...we aren't trying to diss you man..it's a cold hard fact that it's NOT 4G....AT&T just pretends like it is because the avg user has no clue what in the helll 4G really is....if you are sales rep, they WOULD feed you these lies as if they were fact, otherwise u couldn't sell your product. Sorry to burst your bubble...but we aren't arguing here...there is NO argument. AT&T can not offer 4G speeds because nobody has reached them yet.

4G HSPA+ and LTE isn't in that many cities and kills battery power very quickly. So who really cares right now. If you are on the move a lot you will mostly be on a 3G network anyways. And for that matter there is many areas of the country still on the Edge network.
For me, my iPhone 3G has been plenty fast enough for my kids to watch movies off netflix even when I had only two bars with out any freezes or skipping. How much faster do I need right now?
I just turned off my WiFi, I have four bars and hit play on a Netflix show and it loaded in 6 seconds. Seems alright to me.
Anyways, just got my bonus and I will be upgrading some time this weekend to the 4S. Can't wait.

I didn't think I'd care either until I got my Bionic. The speed of the 4G is amazing - my iPad seems slow now when I am on a 3G network. I especially love it when I tether to my laptop using PDANet as it's about as fast as my home connection. Battery life, as compared to 3G not great, but with the extended battery on the Bionic I can easily get a day out of it with web and phone usage.

Ouch!! That's what happens when you depend on glass for structural integrity as Apple does. Not only that, they glue the glass to the LCD so it's almost as cost effective to replace the unit than to repair it.

I looked at a Bionic yesterday. No comparison between that and the 3g of my Droid X. I'm seriously going to consider the Droid Razr that's coming out in November. It has an aluminum housing, Gorilla Glass and a Kevlar back....should be able to take whatever I put it through. It also will come with a 1750ma battery which should help with the 4g needs. I want to see some user reviews before I spring for anything, though.

So it stands to reason that if the company says it's 3G then it's 3G right?
Well, my I-Phone 4S says 3G in the top left hand corner..
Actually this is what it reads completely:
it shows 5 bars AT&T M-Cell 3G
I have a microcell in my home so I get outstanding reception.
So since AT&T is calling it 3G,, by your test, it should be 3G.. Right?
Just asking because I really don't know the difference. All I know is that this damn thing screams because it's so fast.

The 3G symbol on your screen is telling you your only in a 3G area. Which like 80%+ of America is. Unless you live in one of the big cities (NYC, LA, CHI, etc) you most likely will not see steady 4G service.
What many of the cell companies have done is put 1 "4G" tower in an area to be able to claim they have 4G in that area, when truth is, it's a very small coverage area that gets the signal.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Try doing your homework Ammo instead of just being fed what your marketing buddies tell you. The only reason ITU labeled HSPA+ 4G is because they lowered their standards due to the marketing departments calling stuff 4G that really wasn't. Instead of confusing the heck out of the consumer, they lowered their standards.

This really might be the worst argument I've seen on here. It's 4G only because they changed the definition, so it is 4G, but it really isn't, but it is, but it's not, but the company says it is and they're right considering the new definition, but it's not compared to another company. Can we all just agree that it's 3.5G?

Thats exactly what happened. Companies marketing starting claiming they had 4g phones despite what the current standard was. The result, the ITU loosened it's standards on what can be called 4g. web page

So then.....it is 4G NOW. It wasn't 4G X days ago. So again, what's the argument again?

But no one had 4G x days ago. ITU said LTE, HSPA+ and WiMax were all 3G.5 and now they say they are all 4G. So yeah what is the argument here?

There is no argument like i said before.
It's watered down 4G(current standard if you want to call it that) or 3.5 G...and i'm sticking to that story.

If you're on a MicroCell then you should be on your home Wi-Fi anyway.
All 4S's say 3G right now cuz Apple rushed the software out for all carriers. A software update will show 4G at the top. It's coming, I just don't know when.

Finally have money for my phone and everyone is sold out. I have to wait 3 - 4 weeks before stock comes in. Sucks. I did find out that I will get $100 for my old iPhone.
