Lewis stops waiting on Ravens, agrees with BrownsBy John Clayton
ESPN.com

For two years, the Baltimore Ravens have wondered about Jamal Lewis' breakaway speed. They no longer have to wonder.

Lewis

Lewis, the franchise's all-time leading rusher, broke away from the Ravens and agreed to a deal with the rival Cleveland Browns on Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed, but Lewis reached the agreement Wednesday night after a visit to Cleveland.

The Ravens released Lewis to clear salary cap room. Both sides kept in touch with the hopes of reuniting. But Lewis sensed his job might not be there. The Ravens have been interested in acquiring Bills halfback Willis McGahee in a trade.

Lewis, 27, decided not to wait and took Cleveland's offer. He rushed for 2,066 yards in 2003 but has struggled during the past three years. Last year, he played the entire season with a bone spur problem. He recently had surgery to remove the spurs.

The 5-foot-11, 245-pound back is one of the league's most powerful runners. He was the Ravens' first-round draft choice in 2000.

I don't believe it.

Not until it comes from the Browns site itself.

It depends on the amount of money, if I'm going to like this signing or not.

I am not excited about this signing. I dont like his criminal history, I dont like his past 3 seasons and I wonder what this means for Droughns.

Touchdown!

Now lets go get us a LT in the draft by the name of Joseph Thomas

no more AP talk, lets focus on some Joe Thomas

Unreal.....I mean he torched us for Gazillions of yds...and now he´s a Brown?

Watching him the last 2 seasons....he isn´t much of an upgrade....but I guess he´s not done enough to prove himself again and return to his "old self" as a Brown...who knows....

really depends on the contract if I like this or not....

Personally, I think his best years are behind him. Then again, maybe so are Droughns.

SCORE.

I'm really glad we got Lewis. This gives us a chance to shop Droughns/or release him, and to be able to focus elsewhere in this first round this year. *cough* Joe Thomas *cough*

Lewis still has at least 2 to 3 good years left in him, and this means that next year we can get a RB in the first round, and have him split time with Lewis for a year or so...

I got a good feeling about the next couple years dawgs

also, I wonder what Lewis' contract is? I hope we didn't grossly overpay him which seems to be the trend around the league this year.

This is my concerned. He's got to be pretty beat up after all these years.

Well, the Rats low-balled him. Can't imagine we gave him the farm. Plus, hopefully he'll produce better now that he's had those bone spurs removed. Nothing a guy by the name of Thomas can't help us with.

I don't like this move. I'm not sure he's that much of an upgrade over Droughns and has a criminal past. Not a big fan of this move...

Speaking of Droughns, wouldn't this be bye-bye for him?

Why would we need two RBs with the moves and speed of a guard?

oh...and not to pi-ss on anyone´s parade...but in his last 31 starts in 2005/06 he had 8 games with more than 3.9 AVG in the game...that´s ~ 70% of the games with an avg under 4yds/carry....

but I´ll be the 1st to root for him come Summer

oh well...at least some serious trash talk will be going on twice a year with RayRay now....

Well I am not exactly excited about the signing but maybe he has a chip on his shoulder now because Baltimore didn't want him and returns to form.

Unbelievable...Now sign Peterson. Also, I have to eat my words b/c I said in another thread that we won't sign Lewis. Great news. I hope he performs for us....bye bye Droughns

Lewis is actually fast. Well he used to be, i'm sure he hasn't lost much. Sure as hell has to have more than Droughns.

He got in trouble with the law once, and that was before he was even in the league. He just didn't get punished for it untill last year.

If my memory serves me right, I don't think he has been in any trouble in the past 6 years?

I guess one ray of sunshine in this is that we no longer have to play against him twice a year. Daylon can take his diapers off now.

Well, time will tell whether or not this was a good move. It still leaves us options going into the draft unless we decide for some ridiculous reason to keep Reuben, who is owed 1.75 mil on March 15. I said it earlier today in another post, Phil and RAC have always said that if they ever get a chance to upgrade a specific position, they will go for it. I think he is an upgrade over Droughns, but that's JMHO. He's only 27. I think he's still got some juice left in the tank. And um, he'll be gunning for the Ravens twice a year. So far that's 2 divisional opponents that will face their own in Orange & Brown from now on. I like the thought of that.

I think the change of scenery will do him good too.

I think Baltimore has taken a toll on him. Hopefully he can come in here hungry, angry and willing to prove his worth in the league again. Im sure Phil has taken into account his slide and most likely incentive loaded his contract.

Which means good things, or, cheap things. Whichever, Im willing to be this is a low risk signing for us, for a guy who we all know is a beast.

Well unless they have a time machine out at Berea that can give us an '02 or '03 Lewis, fuggedabodit. I'm not holding out too much hope for the '07 version.

Looks like we aren't taking Peterson. Here me out... I don't say we aren't taking him just because we signed a 27 year old, past his prime RB.. but, do any of you think he would have signed here if we couldn't guarantee him he'd start? And if we draft Peterson, Peterson steps in and starts from game one. Bye Bye Adrian.

Well ..... I dislike this move.

I'm very disappointed in Savage signing a dirtbag like Lewis.

Actually, I think this is setting us up for a QB. We'll take either Quinn or Russell, whichever one is there. Not saying I agree or don't agree with taking a QB.. but that is what we are going to do.

Like another poster said.. He has been in trouble once. And that was before he was even in the NFL. His problems were in college, and as far as I know, he's stayed out of trouble since entering the NFL.
