Montario Hardesty Reportedly Has Torn Calf Muscle, Expected To Miss Games Oct 31 1:58p by James Brady Read More: Peyton Hillis (RB - CLE), Chris Ogbonnaya (RB - CLE), Montario Hardesty (RB - CLE), Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers Montario Hardesty left Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers during the Browns' second series with an apparent right calf injury. Hardesty was scheduled to have an MRI on Monday, and now it looks like the MRI is showing an injury that will make Hardesty miss some games: the Associated Press is reporting that he has a torn calf muscle. It's a definite blow to the Browns, who only had Chris Ogbonnaya to work with once Hardesty went down, since starter Peyton Hillis missed the game with a hamstring injury. Hardesty was given the start after rushing for almost 100 yards against the Seattle Seahawks and now the team is definitely hoping Hillis will be back sooner rather than later. Lucky usDidn't like the pick when we made the trade. Don't like it now.
Do I think he has some talent? Yes. Was he worth moving up in the 2nd round? Hell no he wasn't....

We need to draft a running back on top of everything else now. Quarterback, running back, linebacker, in that order...

Running backs are a dime a dozen.
Fill other needs.
QB, LB, OL, WR before we fill RB.

Hopefully Hillis can come back next week. That would leave us with Hillis, Ogbonnaya, and then we could activate Armond Smith from the practice squad. Which also means someone will be cut or placed on IR. I nominate Robiske to be cut.

This. We shouldn't draft a RB in the first 3 rounds.

Hurtesty is...wait for it....hurt? Imagine that?! We do NOT HAVE to draft a RB anywhere. Chris Ogbonnaya is performing better than Hardesty this year. He was a UDFA who we just signed off the scrap heap 2 weeks ago. You can find running backs literally ANYWHERE. Requirements to be a successful NFL RB: 1) Have a good run blocking OLine. Without it, it doesn't matter how "good" you are or are not. 2) Do not fumble the football. 3) Be athletic enough to hit holes. 4) Be smart enough to pick up blitzes. Requirement 1 has nothing to do with the RB at all...TONS of players fit requirement 3...which means the only "real" issues are whether they fit requirements 2 and 4 or not. You can find guys who won't fumble and are good at picking up blitzes as UDFA.

I've always said, if my Lineman can block your lineman, it dosent matter who we hand the ball off to, were gonna get yards and as long as were averaging 3-4 yards a carry were gonna move the ball.
1st round ; RT & CB
2nd LB
We need to sign a veteran WR to help Colt not a young WR who has to learn a new system at the same time what it takes to play at NFL level.

Well Hillis was on the train of progression that usualy leads to him playing this coming week v. Houston. 3 Weeks off (2 missed games plus the week that it happened), then begin practicing and get about a half load, and see how it holds up and if he doesnt get tight let him go full bore later in the game a la Arian Foster (the last time).
Hillis, Ogbonnaya, and Armond should be fine. Re-sign Xavier Omon to the PS and were fine there. Or find someone else.
Whatever...I'm of the opinion Hardesty has been on the same level as Chris Johnson this season.

Reports have the Browns looking at Thomas Clayton..wow....that just speaks volumes of Holmgren trying to win... Steve Slaton was available a few weeks ago and lord knows the Browns could have used him on this jr.high offense

Clayton was here in the preseason, he may have some familiarity with the system which i think is something we may be thinking is more important at this point in time?
Especially since Slaton hasnt touched the field in Miami since they picked him up...and he stinks and had major ball security issues in Houston, both fumbling and catching out of the backfield.

You are such a downer.
What has Steve Slaton done in the NFL?
He's had 5 - 100 yard rushing games in the league. The last one came on Dec 14th ... 2008.
Don't get me wrong ... I do like the fact that he could be a multi - threat back
but he's only had 984 total yards COMBINED receiving and rushing since the 2009 season started ....
He's behind Reggie Bush AND a rookie in Daniel Thomas in Miami ... but he was also cut because Houston didn't think that they needed him either.
In fact ... they kept Ogbayanna over him (even though it was on the practice squad).
Not like he's a pro bowler ...

I'm hoping we take a look at Kevin Smith. Didn't realize he was even a FA.

Someone mentioned him a few weeks ago.
I'll say the same thing now I said then.
I like Kevin Smith.

What about Brian Westbrook for a little fill in duty?
He knows the west coast system and he showed last year he has some game left in him when Gore went down a few games.
Could even take Ogbannaya under his wings. Truthfully I like what I have seen from him so far, a little tutoring from someone from that system never hurts.

Which was his rookie year. Perhaps a change of scenery might be of benefit. I'd love to see what he has in the tank now after becoming motivated by not being signed. It's a better option then someone off of a practice squad in my mind. Westbrook might be intriguing too, but he's much older. At least Smith fits the mold of going younger that this FO seems to value.
I definitely think he's worth at least bringing in for a look and then deciding from there.

Me a downer...I guess..but all Heckart has done is sit on his hands. I will take Steve Slaton over Chris Ogbayongashonga....Slaton has that much more experiance than him or Thomas Clayton...not to mention Tashard Choice who was signed today by the Redskins would have been a upgrade over Thomas Clayton. I also notice Brandon Lloyd made a contribution in a upset over the Saints. this Browns offense isn't that much better than the 99 or 2000 Browns offenses

Only 9 games left, I believe a torn calf is 6-8 weeks so IR seems like the obvious choice here.

It's Ogbonnaya.
I enjoy how 80%+ of people can neither spell nor pronounce any names longer than two syllables. Is it REALLY that hard to learn someone's name? It reflects well on our society....

Yeah, this might be one of Heckert's misses. Which is too bad. I think Hardesty was a pretty good RB. Great? Nah. But pretty good. But, like Courtney Brown, we can really see how good you are if you're not on the field.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

You can always use Man, I hope that he gets, and stays, healthy ... but more and more I fear we are seeing Lee Suggs II.

What's there to fear?
He is an average back with an average skill set, IMO.
I feel for the guy, but I don't think this impacts the team all that much.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

I think that he has talent .... but I really think that injuries have taken a toll on his talents ..... and more and more is lost with each ensuing injury.

We have a better record than Washington who claimed him, they had first rights to claim or pass on him before we do, they claimed him we never has a option. Not Front Offices fault.

Just caught highlights of Chargers/Chiefs from last night.
Chiefs' practice squad pickup was tearing it up. Just plug 'em in . . .

I agree, hated the pick and bashed it on here from day one. My most hated pick since Veikune. Total waste.

I still like the pick of Hardesty. I watched him at Tennessee and still count on him improving and being our #1 RB. Just my opinion.

Don't laugh too hard, this might be true next season. If Hillis isn't re-upped, then Hardesty tentatively becomes the new #1 depending on the draft. If it isn't a 1st rounder spent on RB, then Hardesty would be our #1 since we know that the FA route is out....scary isn't it?

No that is where you are wrong...Brandon Jackson will be our number 1 RB next season. He is the WCO RB Shurmur wanted, and he knows this system. Hope we can get Hillis back but it doesnt look like its going to happen.
