If I wanted to wait on someone, I would want to wait on a QB. A guy by the name of.... Andre' Woodson. QB from Kentucky.

This kid makes all the throws. He plays VERY well against SEC defenses, without an SEC offense at Kentucky. There isn't a throw that this kid can't make. Mark my word... Andre Woodson will be a top 10 pick in next years draft.

I'm done with all QB's from Kentucky, thank you very much.

We had this discussion on here when PPE first made this board, and most people agreed with me. I want to know if you agree with this as well.... the Browns ruined Couch, who showed glimpses of being a very good NFL QB, while playing with less talent than we have on this team. I really believe that if McNabb had been drafted by Cleveland and Couch went to Philly.. Couch would be a pro-bowl QB, and McNabb would be out of the league.

I'll agree with that. But at one time I was worse than Mary Kay Cabot in sticking up for Couch.

Well if we do infact draft Peterson, who BTW i'm not pimping just making an observation of which way I think Phil will go. We could be drafting a QB next year if Frye falls on his face. I don't think we will be drafting one this year if it's not in the first round.

Actually, if we don't take one in the first, and Troy Smith is there in the 3rd or 4th, we will take him. I'm not big on Smith, I just think we'll take him if he's there in the 3rd or 4th.

If McNabb was drafted by the Browns, yes he would be out of the league as well, but Couch might be the backup in Philly. I don't think Couch ever showed that he could read a defense, but he did have an NFL arm. Tim Couch should never had been taken at #1, it should of been Ricky Williams or the best O-lineman.

Lets have open minds people, i'm shocked to see the close mindedness on this board. We need some guys with a edge on this team, nice guys finish last. I want us to get better, and this guy will make us better, plus he has been clean for a few years now, lets give him a shot. We can't be affraid to pull the trigger on guys, i'm getting the impression that if some of you guys ran the team, that our scouting would be done at gardens and librarys for gardeners and librarians

I still to this day stick up for Couch. I'm not saying we shouldn't have got rid of him, because his arm was tore up, and he would have never had fan support anyway, and his time was just up in Cleveland. But, I still stand up for him in the sense that we ruined his career, and that I think he could have been a very good QB if he had gone somewhere besides Cleveland. (or Cincinnati )

This is my concerned. He's got to be pretty beat up after all these years.

He's going into his 8th season and has had about 2000 touches between rushes and receptions... LT is going into his 7th season and has had almost 2500 touches....

I don't know what to attribute Lewis's decline too over the last couple years but he isn't over the hill... and perhaps a change of scenery will bring some life back to him...

I don't think anyone needs to know who the 1-2 punch will be... whats the point? regardless.. Lewis is a starter, and can be a full time starter... I want to get Adrian Peterson and let them share carries, but even if the Browns went with Thomas, or whoever else, we have Wright and Harrison/Barclay. and then at the moment Droughns is still here too.

I'm glad we got Lewis.. He will be a huge upgrade over Droughns.. EASILY!!

Why won't he be there at 3? It's almost guaranteed Oakland goes for a QB and Detroit's tackles are pretty shored up. Their QB is also 35.

I'm for taking Thomas since he is one of those franchise LT's you just don't want to pass on. I also think that he is more of a need with Shaffer out there than Peterson is a need now that we have Lewis and possibly Droughns.

lol...looking back, no one could have saved this team in this situation, but that's for a whole different thread. Right now, let's talk about how Lewis will be our first RB since 1999 to run for 1500 yards.

I do not agree that McNabb would have been ruined if he became a Brown. I wanted him over Couch.

The reason... mobility. .. with an expansion team, a mobile QB is valuable.

I agree Pitt.

To me, the one year deal is an audition, and why would he WANT to audition here. joe Thomas and Eric Steinbach. We are taking Joe if he is there and then we take a running back next year.

Of course that's how you view it, you're the biggest Thomas fanatic I've ever seen.

Look at it like this: if we pay Droughns' bonus, it's an audition. If we don't, it's a blatant indication we're taking AD. There's no way we'd leave Lewis and Wright on the roster together and expect it to work, especially with both on one year deals.

im just hoping we get Adrian Peterson... man o man o man...

Jamal Lewis and Adrian Peterson...

I'm wondering two things right now...

1) What the Ravens fans are thinking?

2) What Ray Lewis is thinking?

I agree with you on Woodson. He can make any throw, and he made tremendous strides last season. Top 10 pick might be a stretch, but he should be one of the top 3 QBs in the draft next season if he stays healthy.

I won't get into the TC debate, but just say I am partial being a Kentucky fan, and I will leave it at that.

Yeah, it seems like a stretch now.. but I am looking for him to improve even more in his senior season. If he improves more than he already has, I don't see any reason he couldn't go in the top 10.

Its split,

some are sad to see him go
some are glad
some think it sucks hes in the division
some think hes still got some left and others dont

most just take cheap shots at us anyway, like we will suck anyway. Dont get a cut or you will get staph, we will be drafting high anyway. Stuff like that.

I cant wait to see what Lewis can bring to the table. I think that he does still have some gas left and he will be out to get good ole Ray Ray this fall.

With the signing of Lewis do you think this spells the end of T. Smith? I mean Lewis ran behind a fullback in Baltimore but if the Browns pick up AP in teh draft than wow I dunno where we are ending up.

Well to be honest I have mixed feelings on this.

One thing I see a lot of people talking about character issues, but when was his last problem? The only thing I can think was the drug stuff but that was before he was in the NFL..which was like 5-7 years ago? Am I wrong? Is there anything else past that?

I mean if you look Eric Steinbach's incident was really kinda of a minor thing if you really look at....I wouldn't exactly call him a career criminal

As for Jamal doesn't this guy get a 2nd chance if he has stayed clean for 5-7 years? (Someone correct me if I am wrong) I mean it's not like Jamal Lewis is Chris Henry/Pacman Jones....

Now as for as his football ability is concerned...He has wore down. there is no doubt about that. Maybe just maybe Droughns and Lewis can split carriers and be very effective. I mean most posters said Droughns wore down at the end of the year 2 years ago, and was injured this past year...maybe Jamal Lewis can take some of the wear and tear off Droughns. I mean it's a 1 or 2 year deal so this isn't a franchise chaning singing..

At this point I am willing to try anyone...I think this is so-so situation. I mean if he turns out good great resign him and maybe he can be good for 2-3 more years...if he completely tanks we can simply cut him because his deal is kinda small....

What this means to the draft is......... nothing in my mind. I mean we brought in a lineman , an OLB, and a CB does that preclude us from drafting one???

I think not. I remember Savage saving you use FA to address your needs and the draft to get the best players available....I think our draft pick could go anyway Calvin, Thomas, Peterson, or Quinn, and quite honestly I would almost be happy with any of those 4.

Go Browns!!

I agree with you, Loki. I'm not necessarily high on drafting anyone but Thomas, though. I guess we'll just have to trust Savage on this and hope it works out.

I ABSOLUTELY hate this signing. Jamal Lewis a Brown? It is a disgrace. The guy is a convict and should still be sitting in prison for those coke deals he got busted for.

Really, none of the players we've signed have tipped our hand. Frye is apparently being shopped (subtely), Stein is a guard and we're looking at other guards, we've signed a RB who's probably on the downside but if healthy is a better runner than Droughns......Hell, it's tough to say what we'll do. I do believe that we can stand pat at RB, QB, WR, and OT resulting in the #3 pick in the draft going on the auction block. I really want Joe Thomas, but if we got a helluva deal for the pick, I wouldn't flip out. We still need more quality starters than singular stars, and this #3 pick can turn into 2 starters immediately.

Is it the swan song for my boy Droughns? It just might be, but I'd rather we just kept them both and drafted Thomas

Eh, it's just for a year anyways. It's probably a produce and wait type contract where if he does well and has no issues, he might get resigned, if he does poorly with no issues, no resigning, and if he does well WITH issues, no resigning. I think Phil knows what he's doing here and is giving Lewis a shot to get back to how he used to be and this year contract thing also give us the chance to not take any crap from the kid if he gets "mixed up" in the wrong things again.

Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports that running back Jamal Lewis will be paid up to $3.5 million by the Browns in 2007. Of that amount, $1 million comes from a per-game roster bonus.

Britney Spears is a psycho.

I think I've changed my mind in light of this Jamal Lewis signing. Now, Adrian Peterson looks pretty good to me as much as I was against his signing. He would be a pleasant player. Anything to cut down on Jamal Lewis' playing time.

Browns sign Jamal Lewis to 1-year deal
Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
03.07.2007
http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/article.php?id=6550

How's this for a reversal of fortunes? Jamal Lewis is set to bounce off of would-be tacklers for the Browns instead of bouncing would-be tacklers who play for the Browns.

The Browns signed Lewis to a one-year deal Wednesday night, bringing the veteran power back to the team that he set the NFL single-game record of 295 yards rushing against in 2003.

The Ravens released Lewis in a salary-cap move just prior to the start of free agency.

His 314 carries for 1,132 yards last fall were the most since the record-setting 2003 season that gave him the NFL rushing title. That year, he rushed for 2,066 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Lewis, who turns 28 just prior to the start of the 2008 season, has seven NFL seasons under his belt. His emergence as a rookie in 2000 helped the Ravens win the Super Bowl, but he suffered a torn ACL in training camp the following summer and missed the season.

He's rushed for more than 1,000 yards in four of five seasons since, missing the mark only in 2005 when he had 906. For his career, he has 1,822 rushes for 7,801 yards and 45 touchdowns.

He has six career 100-yard games against the Browns, four of 170 yards or more.

"We are pleased to add Jamal Lewis to our team," Browns Senior Vice President and General Manager, Phil Savage said. "He is a proven NFL back who brings a toughness and demeanor to the game that his teammates and our fans will appreciate."

The addition of Lewis and Eric Steinbach in free agency dramatically changes the look of the Browns' offense and reflects at least a mild change in the look of the AFC North Division as a whole. Lewis is a 5-foot-11, 245-pound battering ram, and the Browns plan to put a rugged offensive line in front of him.

Savage was with the Ravens when they drafted Lewis in the first round in 2000. Lewis becomes the third high-profile former Raven to sign with the Browns under Savage's watch, joining Gary Baxter (2005) and Dave Zastudil (last season).
