The Rockets will be traveling to D.C. to face Air Force in the Military Bowl on December 28th. Should be an interesting and entertaining game. There's also a decent possibility that I'll be making the trip to RFK to watch the team take on The Falcons.
No doubt. Isn't Air Force 2nd in run-to-pass ratio (next to Army)? And Toledo has a high-flying speedy crazy scoring offense? Talk about a clash of philosophies.
I'm really proud of this team. Tough loss to OSU, got rolled by Boise & then got SCREWED out of a win against Syracuse.....and still kept their heads up to roll through the MAC. IMO, the coach cost us the division title with his timeout usage. Oh well.
As irked as everyone is about Ok State...I'm not. I don't particular like any of the teams at the top so it doesn't really matter. Plus, unless we have two undefeateds, some team will always get screwed. So it's par for the course. Eventually we'll get an And1 playoff and that will increase the chance the most deserving teams get a shot AND prove it on the field.
I enjoy the Bowl Season, it means Xmas is around the corner and snowboarding is in season.

The playoff as you describe won't happen, but one more league is pushing for the plus one.
It makes the most sense and would be easy to get done. It also looks like there might be enough push to finally get it done. Either the Pac-10 or the Big-10 is going to have to get on board. If it wasn't for them insisting on the Rose Bowl, we might already be there.
By Joe Schad ESPN
Interim Big 12 commissioner Chuck Neinas said Sunday night that a model allowing the top four teams of college football to meet in the postseason should be revisited.
"The plus-one model has received consideration before," Neinas said. "As a result of this year, I feel that consideration should become more serious as we move forward."
Oklahoma State finished a close third to Alabama in the final BCS standings and will play in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl instead of the Allstate BCS National Championship.
Cowboys coach Mike Gundy believes his team, after a rout of Oklahoma, deserves a chance to play for the title.
Oklahoma State won its conference while Alabama did not. And the Crimson Tide has already lost to LSU this season.
In the past, SEC commissioner Mike Slive and ACC commissioner John Swofford have supported a plus-one system.
It was rebuked by the other conferences, but now Dan Beebe is no longer Big 12 commissioner and Tom Hanson has been replaced in the Pac-12 by Larry Scott, who has proven to be forward-thinking.
In a seeded, plus-one system for this season, LSU would have faced Stanford and Alabama would have faced Oklahoma State, with the winners playing for the title.
In that scenario, the Big Ten and Pac-12 champions, Wisconsin and Oregon, would still play in the Rose Bowl.
In the past, the Big Ten and Pac-12s preference to preserve the rivalry of its champions meeting when at all possible has been an obstacle for the concept of an expanded postseason format.

Totally agree. I think both conferences are part of the reason why we aren't seeing a playoff. I think all the big-wig non-football people involved in both of those conferences, people like E. Gordon Gee, are major players in keeping this thing the way it is. It's flat-out wrong.
I said before the year that I was ok with conference reshuffling, which we saw, and the addition of conference championship games (which we saw) if the end result meant a playoff format.
I don't know if we're any closer, we have this conversation every year but it never seems like we're any closer, it's just that this year it seems a little more ridiculous.
All that money that gets dealt out for conference championship games, and not one game on Friday or Saturday meant one damn thing towards the BCS. A complete joke.

Maybe they should rename themselves The Big Splatter, or "The Four Corners Conference" .... or "The Big East, West, North, and South". (Or they could call themselves "The Big N.E.W.S. Conference") At least they'll rack up those frequent flyer miles for their schools.

Well, I still think the Big Ten should get rebranded, but not the name of the conference, the division names are awful. So, the Boise coach is slamming the BCS for being unfair and how it doesn't make sense. Sure, I understand his point and to a certain degree, he's very right. However, had his team taken care of business against TCU, his team would be in a BCS bowl (and maybe even playing for a national title). So, it's a little self-serving to slam the system that slighted you because YOU lost a game YOU should have won. It's your fault you're on the outside looking in. I'm no staunch BCS supporter but I'm also not a BCS basher. I think the BCS is better than the old system. Of course it's very flawed, but far more often than not, it does get the two best teams teams in one game to play for a title. Sure, a computer isn't required when there are two undefeated teams from major BCS conferences, a child could get it right.

I would love to see a 4 team post-season.
Imagine this ..... the BCS and AP both have the top 4 teams as follow:
LSU Alabama Oklahoma State Stanford
Wouldn't LSU vs Stanford be a great game? How about Alabama vs Oklahoma State? Then the teams could control their own destinies. Man that would make for a fun and exciting couple of games.
It might still wind up LSU vs Alabama ..... but it would be a lot more fun to see the top teams play a couple of times, rather than seeing even a team like tOSU, (to be fair) as a 6 win team, in a bowl game.
Stanford vs Oklahoma State should be a fun game in the Tostitos Bowl, but it would be a lot more fun if it were a meaningful game.
As it is now ...... Alabama could win by 1, and Oklahoma State could blow out Stanford 82-0 ..... and it would not matter.

I have been talking about the "plus one" for a long time. I guess you don't read my posts.
Plus One solves it.
All the hub-bub is about the 3rd team every year...not the 5th, 6th, 7th teams.
You take the top 4 teams and play them, then the 1 extra game.
OK....whoever is 5th is going to whine....so what......you could have 100 teams and the 101st will cry.
Top 4 teams as ranked today. Play them in a seeding method, then the two winners play.
1 v 4, 2 v 3.
Works for everybody....except the fans of #5.....tough luck.

Not that I think it was the big difference maker.
But Nick Saban put OK State #4 behind Stanford in his Coaches Poll...
...I really hate that guy...

It's a joke
Nick Saban had a vote. Shocking he put OSU #4.
Don't worry, David Shaw voted his Stanford squad #3 too.
Air Force's head coach put Arkansas over Okie State.
Nice conflicts of interest, eh?
Art Briles has Michigan 6 spots ahead of Wisconsin.
In the Harris: Derrick Mayes has Auburn #18 and Georgia unranked. Georgia has three more wins and beat the Auburn 45-7
Also in the Harris:
George Wine: 1. LSU 2. Alabama 3. Stanford 4. Boise 5. Houston 6. Oklahoma St
The fact that the Coaches Poll plays a big part of who goes to the National Championship is arguably the most ridiculous thing in all of sports. Every SEC coach placed Alabama ahead of Oklahoma State.

Of course he did.
Just like Tebow got hosed after his Jr year. He had a better year then he did as a Soph. and Pac 10 teams didn't even vote him 3rd in the voting.
Had he picked up maybe 3-4 more 3rd place votes he would have won a second Heisman.
Just like Peyton Manning is the only player to ever come in second to a defensive player in Heisman voting.....the biggest hose job in Heisman history IMO.
Politics and perspective plays a role in this.

Just FYI my Ex just texted me.. she lives a couple houses away from Dr. and Mrs. Jon Woods (OSU Band Director - he just retired), the Best Damn Band in The Land was just at the Woods house serenading the Woods, the neighborhood and they were freakin LOUD!!
They did about 10 songs.. what a great thing for those kids to do!
For those that know my daughter, DancinDawg.. one of her best friends since K school is Dr. Woods daughter. I've gotten to know Dr. and Mrs Woods over the past 20 some years. I'd like to mention how wonderful it is the AWESOME kids in TBDBTL show this respect for the Woods family!

I think that I have this right, heard it on the radio the other day...
Pinkel put OSU behind Alabama unlike every other Big 12 coach... where's Mizzou going next year you ask - SEC.
The whole thing is shady. Virginia Tech should NOT be in a BCS Bowl, Boise should be and Oklahoma State should be ping LSU.

pretty good argument for KState over Boise this year. but both (and heck Baylor) deserved in over VaTech
but, also realize the Sugar picked Michigan over Stanford. they had first pick because they lost LSU.

they'll be the favorites, but there are alot of good teams next year. it'll help them if Polk comes out. otherwise, Washington and Oregon will be able to beat them if they don't play their best.

I don't understand all the pressure on that kick to win the Fiesta bowl. They were making it out to be like that game actually meant something.

No doubt.
One doesn't have to be playing for the national championship to be playing for something.
Yesterday the Gators weren't playing for anything but the SEC and School Pride.
We got it done. Good job.

not sure what you are complaining about? should the announcers downplay a potential game-winning kick?
isn't their job to garner the most interest and oversell the game in the first place?

I dunno, I think it just doesn't mean anything other than some game where it means nothing towards a championship. I can see a kick in the middle of September or October where championship hopes, or at least conference championship hopes are on the line.
I don't know, agree to disagree I guess.

When did I say not show it? I just didn't think all the pressure in the world was on that kid.
To me it's not a "big" game. It's a major bowl game, you want to win every game you play, but there were no implications in that game. There was nothing riding on that game other than me and +5 Stanford.
It's a big kick, it's a game winning, so obviously there is natural pressure, but this isn't the same kick you could see next week in the Superdome, and it's not even close. That's all I'm getting at.
