To answer an earlier question about leadership, Cain turned around companies. He took failing companies and turned them into successful companies. That takes one hell of a lot of leadership. I have a similar background (just not on that scale) and I know what it takes to change a losing environment within a company into a winning environment. It's no easy task, and it does not get done without leadership, the ability to recognize talent and ability in others, to be able to delegate to adhere to standards, to demand excellence, and so on. These are important qualities a President should have, and ones I saw in Cain.
You think that saving a pizza chain from potential bankruptcy exhibits the leadership skills necessary to become leader of the free world?

The free world wouldn't be free any longer, it would be $10.99 for a large republic w/onions, delivery is available.

but a correct response would've been something along the lines of 'Honestly, I don't know. I'm learning as a I go, politics isn't really my game. I'm more experience in matters of job creation.'
So he should have answered like a politician?
And don't forget, nobody actually asked him that question, he basically asked himself that question so he could answer it in a way that proved that he doesn't know all of this stuff... and it's not his first priorty to know this stuff...

He was asked if he was ready to answer questions that could be described as 'gotcha'.
I will ask again ... in 2008, you would have applauded this as being the perfect answer and a sign of leadership, correct?

REPORTER: Are you ready for the 'gotcha' questions about your inexperience in areas such as foreign policy?
OBAMA: Yes, I'm ready. And when they ask me who is the president of Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan I’m going to say, ‘You know, I don’t know. Do you know?’ And then I’m going to say, “How’s that going to create one job?”
REPORTER: Do you feel like these sorts of gaffes build on the idea that you don’t have in depth knowledge of foreign policy?
OBAMA: Hope and change.

I think that it shows business savvy, and an ability to compete in a competitive marketplace.
That's exactly one of the major skills the next President needs.

Would you say that those people have the leadership skills necessary for the Oval Office?

They might have one aspect of a necessary skill, especially with regards to the economy we find ourselves in today.

I've never really understood the notion of the president being someone who can save or destroy the economy.
They can take measure to alter the course in certain respects, but in the end, they have little control over it.
They can't really fix the root of the problems that our economy faces.
Unless they can wave magic wands that eliminates cheaper labor or makes us turn from consumers to producers at midnight, their role is somewhat minimal.
As far as the economy is concerned, it's generally a partisan game - i.e. if you're with the GOP, then Reagan revitalized the economy, Clinton coasted on credit that wasn't deserved, Bush did well given circumstances, and Obama destroyed it. If you lean Democrat, Reagan coasted on credit that wasn't deserved, Clinton saved it, Bush ruined it, and Obama's doing the best he can given circumstances.
The end truth is that they can certainly have meaningful impacts, but ultimately it's a beast that they cannot save or destroy.

Mark Zuckerberg is qualified to be POTUS. He's too young.

What the President can do is either put in place, or repeal regulations and such that can either assist or stifle business growth. Tax policy, trade agreements, regulations, and so on can all be used to help or hinder business growth.
The President can't directly impact the economy, but the policies he puts in place can, and do, have an impact.

OK, and where does Cain show promise there?
Thus far, he's rolled out a nonsensical tax plan that's more gimmick than idea, one that he can't even talk about in depth.
In the area of trade agreements, Cain has said little, but what he has said is in line with the views of Barack Obama.
In the area of regulations, he's pretty much just said 'they're bad'. He also ran a campaign ad about EPA regulations that was factually inaccurate. Other than that, and a stance that the Feds shouldn't regulate medicinal marijuana, I'm not finding much on substance.
When it comes to matter of the economy, when he's not saying '9-9-9' like a parrot, he's constantly talking about the need to 'outgrow' China. He has no specifics on how to outgrow a country we're in serious debt to (that he fears may want to obtain nukes).
So help me out here ... you though he had promise because he ran a pizza chain. Where else do you think he showed 'promise'?

Because he understands what helps a business, and what hinders a business.
It's not the end all, but it is something that a guy whose only experience is sitting in Congress will never have.

I'm going to get crucified for saying this but,, since when has that been the prime consideration when selecting a president?
I want a guy that understands the needs of the business community. but I also want a guy that isn't going to give the ship away to business..
Deregulate where needed, but don't just sit there and say,, Regulation Bad.. deregulation Good.. (I keep thinking of Mongo: Mongo like beans, beans good for Mongo (blazing saddles))
I don't want a puppet for industry. But I don't want someone that stands in thier way either.
The Candidate I want will strike a balance between Corporate Needs and Private citizens needs.
If all a candidate has got is the ability to read a balance sheet, that's not a fit.. not even close.

It helps because a President who understand how business works will not put policies in effect, for example, that make it harder to increase employment numbers. (Like Obamacare, which has had a chilling effect on employment)
It is merely one more layer of experience that I feel helps a President have a more rounded background, and that can help him see how a variety of factors can influence business and employment in this country.

George W. Bush had a lengthy resume when it came to business.
Didn't seem to help him. Under Bush, the deficit ballooned and unemployment rose.
His father also had a long business career.
Didn't seem to help him. Ballooning deficit, unemployment rose.
In fact, in modern presidential history, the only presidents unemployment fell under were politicians whose backgrounds were in acting and law. The only time deficits shrunk were under a lawyer and a farmer.
Why do you believe that having a business background is essential for a president in terms of the economy, given that the track record of those who possess such a background has been largely unsuccessful?

Yeah I know, that's what I said. But Damn it, if all you got is business savvy,, you aren't the guy to be president.
I noticed you had to get your dig in on Obama... How come you didn't say anyting about that idiot Bush running this country into the ground with Tax cuts and wars? he did more damage than Obama has..
Let me say this as clearly as I can,, Party don't mean a thing.. it's who a candidate panders too.. that's all that matters to some folks.. and they are all wrong for taking that approach..
Balance is the answer.. in all things.

Like I said, the guy is a clown. At this rate, he's running the risk of endangering the FOX job he was angling for when he announced his candidacy. http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/01/election/2012/cain-accusation-affair/index.html(CNN) -- Presidential hopeful Herman Cain told a newspaper Thursday that he never told his wife about another woman he befriended 13 years ago and helped out financially. In an editorial board meeting with the New Hampshire Union Leader, Cain said he repeatedly gave Ginger White money to help her with "month-to-month bills and expenses." However, he denied a sexual affair, as White alleges. Cain also said he was considering dropping out of the race, but for now was continuing to meet all campaign commitments. The statement in the videotaped interview was his most definitive to date that he might end his campaign. On Wednesday night, Cain told reporters in Ohio that he had discussed White's allegations with his wife, but was waiting until he could speak face-to-face with Gloria Cain on Friday before making any decision about his campaign. He said in the Thursday interview that his wife's feelings, as well as the reaction from supporters and donors, would be important factors in deciding whether to stay in the race. "Yes, getting out is an option," Cain said in the interview, which lasted almost an hour. The allegation of an extramarital affair, following accusations of sexual harassment from other women, has seriously damaged Cain's presidential bid. Once a surprise front-runner in the race, he has plunged in the polls since initial allegations of sexual harassment emerged in October. Cain told staffers this week he was reassessing his campaign in the wake of White's allegation of an affair, and he acknowledged to reporters Wednesday that her account had led to a drop in campaign contributions. On Thursday, Cain provided new details on his relationship with White, including the revelation that his wife had no knowledge of what he called a friendship dating back years and his financial help for the woman. Gloria Cain "did not know that we were friends until she (White) came out with this story" on Monday, Cain said, later adding: "My wife did not know about it, and that was the revelation. My wife found out about it when she (White) went public with it." Cain also repeated his insistence that he and White were no more than friends. He had previously denied any sexual relationship with White. Asked about reports of text messages he had exchanged with White, Cain confirmed that the woman had sent him about 70 such messages between October 22 and November 18 including some "asking for financial assistance." "She was out of work and had trouble paying her bills and I had known her as a friend," Cain said, adding: "She wasn't the only friend who I had helped in these tough economic times, and so her messages to me were relating to 'need money for rent' or whatever the case may be. I don't remember all the specifics." Cain said he gave White money, but refused to divulge how much on the advice of his lawyer. "My wife now knows," Cain said. "My wife and I have talked about it and I have explained it to her. My wife understands that I'm a soft-hearted, giving person." Saying that no questions would have been raised if the story involved giving money to a needy male friend, Cain added that his wife "is comfortable with the explanation that I told her." Cain said Wednesday night that Friday will be the first opportunity to sit down with his wife and "walk through this" with his family. On Thursday, an official with Cain's Iowa campaign staff said the candidate's chief of staff met with the four-person Iowa team to emphasize that the election drive was moving forward. "Mark Block, Herman Cain's chief of staff and chief operating officer, just left a meeting at the Iowa headquarters with all four Iowa staffers," said a statement by Lisa Lockwood, the communications director of Friends of Herman Cain's Iowa staff. "The emphatic message is that the campaign is full steam ahead. Herman Cain is in it to win it. He always has been and that has not changed." The Iowa caucuses, the first formal test of the primary season, are scheduled for January 3. Two women -- Sharon Bialek and Karen Kraushaar -- have accused Cain of sexually harassing them in the 1990s while he was head of the National Restaurant Association. Two other women also have said Cain sexually harassed them while they worked at the association, but they have declined to be identified. This week, White told the media that she had an off-and-on affair with Cain for about 13 years, which she described as "very casual." In the interview Thursday, Cain speculated that political opponents might be paying White to make the allegations. "Running for president is a very dirty game," he said, repeating: "It's a dirty game." Cain also said he would drop out of the race if his wife asked him to, but quickly added that she wouldn't. Gloria Cain rarely makes public appearances or statements. Earlier this month, she spoke to Fox News, calling the sexual-harassment allegations "unfounded." On Wednesday night, Cain tried to turn the tables on his growing legions of critics and accusers. "They have been trying to do a character assassination on me," he told an enthusiastic crowd in West Chester, Ohio. "They are attacking my character, my reputation and my name in order to try and bring me down." "I don't believe that America is going to let that happen," he declared. His fund-raising has taken a hit, Cain acknowledged. "The day that this latest one (allegation) hit, fund-raising went way down," he said. "But here's the good news: As the week has gone on and this woman who has made these accusations is basically starting to contradict herself, our fund-raising is going back up. It's not to the level where it was, but a lot of people are saying -- you know what? They don't believe it." It was not clear what he was referring to as contradictions. Cain, the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, urged his audience to "know the facts" and "stay informed because ... stupid people are running America." In a fund-raising letter Tuesday night after White spoke to the media about the alleged relationship, Cain wrote that "a troubled Atlanta businesswoman used national media outlets to promulgate a fabricated, unsubstantiated story about a 13-year affair with me. I am writing you today to assure you that this woman's story is completely false." On Wednesday morning White responded, "It's very disappointing that he would call me troubled." "I'm only here to state the truth and what's happened in the past," she said on ABC's "Good Morning America." She acknowledged that Cain has given her money. "I've received gifts and money for the last 2 1/2 years consistently," she said, adding that he did not ask for anything in return. She and Cain were in touch until last week, when there were leaks about the relationship and members of the media began to call her cell phone and family members, White said. White said she came forward to share her side of the story. "I can't imagine waking up one morning and deciding to come out with this if this was not true," she told ABC. "This has been a very difficult situation for myself, for my family, and it's nothing that I am proud of." "So far I have been absolutely humiliated, embarrassed," she said. White said she had not saved receipts and notes throughout the affair because she never planned to make the relationship public. But, she said, Cain took her on several trips, including to a boxing match in Las Vegas. "I can't make this stuff up," she said. Asked whether his recent texts to her included requests that she not come forward, she replied, "Absolutely not. The funny thing about Herman Cain is, never in a million years did he probably think that I would speak out on this. And honestly speaking, I never wanted to." White said she had seen reports of several women accusing Cain of sexual harassment. While her experience with him does not compare, White said, "I feel their pain." White acknowledged that she has been sued for libel by a former business partner. "There were disputes and disagreements" with the partner and the experience became emotional, she said, acknowledging that she had made mistakes. White said she thought the situation had been resolved. Asked whether she believes Cain should end his campaign, White responded, "That's something he has to decide for himself."

He's out because the lies and misinformation about his affairs are taking a toll on him and his family. Here's a few gems: Quote:
"These false and unproved allegations continue ... to create a cloud of doubt over me and this campaign and my family," Cain said today. "That spin hurts. It hurts my wife, it hurts my family, it hurts me and it hurts the American people because you're being denied solutions to our problems."

I can't speak for anyone else, but if I'm running for office and was accused of doing things I didn't do, I guarantee, I'd hire a bunch of PI's and have the people that started the rumors in court to answer for this.
That's what I WOULD DO. And I'd damn well expect my family and friends to stand with me 100%. I know that once I prove the allegations false, all will be better with them.. I may not win an election, but those important to me would know the truth..
What I WOULD NOT do is quit.
I think he did indeed have sexual relations with that woman and I now believe all the accusations are true..

I dont believe you can both clear your name and run. Id drop too, clear my name by whatever means and ruin whoever the accusers are if its all false.
Is any of it true? Dont know. Fire stoked by the media? You bet!

It's entirely possible that he and the friend he didn't tell his wife about for over a decade were only discussing money issues while texting and calling each other at four in the morning.
More importantly ... who cares?
The fascination with politicians' sex lives I can understand, because we're obsessed with sex. The role it plays in their political viability means nothing to me.
Someone will come around and tell me that adultery shows a character flaw and how can we trust them and blah blah blah...
Well, first of all, you're an idiot if you trust a politician. They're liars by nature. If they don't lie, they don't get elected. That's a truth you can take to the bank. Morality shouldn't be an issue in regards to the president, if for no other reason than you have to be immoral to become or be POTUS.
Secondly ... cheating on your wife is in no way, shape or form an indicator as to how one would perform in the political office, nor should it be.
We don't feel that way about any other profession. If it came out tomorrow that Colt McCoy was cheating on his wife, I don't think many Browns fans would say 'well, we need to find a new QB' (well, Django and YTown aside ) . If it came out tomorrow that the CEO of Chase was having an affair, I doubt many would switch banks.
Now, if it were your marriage counselor or pastor or something along those lines, then it might matter.
Herman Cain should be out of the race because he's a dunce who has no business being there. Not because he's a womanizer

I don't see how he could continue to run. It is damned hard to prove a negative, even in court ...... and it becomes even more difficult in the court of public opinion. Innocence or guilt hardly matter at this point, because he's guilty to those who only casually follow the news.
Did he have an affair? I honestly don't know. I kind of lean towards "probably", but can't say with 100% certainty.
Does that matter anymore? Probably not. Bill Clinton was accused of this stuff in actual court, and was proved to have lied about an affair, and he was extremely popular by the end of his Presidency.
The person this helps is Newt Gingrich. His dirty laundry is, and has been out there already. He seems to be a different person from those days. He is actually receiving positive press with words like "matured", and "elder statesman". Those are some things I would have bet money against ever appearing in a sentence with the name Newt Gingrich.
There has been talk that the Cain supporters may just drop out of the vote entirely. I don't see that happening, because I think that members of the Tea Party, and so on, would be more invested in seeing Obama defeated, not less just because their preferred candidate didn't win the nomination. Some candidates like Gingrich and Romney have been hit for not being conservative enough, but I think that they are running more of a general election type campaign than a primary type campaign thus far.
Anyway ... back to Cain .... he was an interesting idea with too many holes to stay afloat for the entire election. It's a shame because he is the closest thing we have had to an ordinary citizen running for President in a long, long time. At least he ran within the Party structure and didn't blow up the Presidential race by running as a 3rd Party candidate.

Well, share your "solutions" with others if they're so great, Herman.
What a jag.

What do you care who wins? According to you no one can do anything once they get in anyway, so what difference does it make to you which Party or candidate wins, or how much experience that person has?

Again, what interesting idea? Where?
His entire campaign revolved around an unworkable tax plan that even he couldn't properly explain.
Outside of that ... that guy was a complete dunce.
I would say that you liked the idea of Herman Cain more than Herman Cain.
The only other thing you've said is that you liked his business experience, because business experience was a nice asset to have for a president in matters like unemployment and the economy, which, as I pointed out, is an unfounded comment with no basis in reality.
Herman Cain was a gimmick candidate with no substance. At the end of the day, I don't even think he was serious about his run. I think it was a springboard to other things for him all along.

I'll grant that the idea of Herman Cain may have been better than the actual candidate himself.
Now, what difference does it make to you if a President can't really do anything anyway?

LOL Coming from you thats a gas...LOL
But here's the deal,, if he's innocent and fights to clear his name, it won't matter, by then his reputation would be ruined so he probably wouldn't win. But that's not what would be important to me.
I have a wife and family and friends. As long as I could prove to them I didn't do it, then I'd fight like a mad man for vindication.
But even more important than that, find out who did this to my reputation and own them legally..
I'd start with those that accused me.. and I'd go from there..

And what if your wife said to you "Look Daman, I know that you want to continue to fight, but I just can't take any more. It hurts me too much to see things like this said about you. I know that you didn't do what they said you did, but they are just going to keep piling stuff on you, on us, until we're so far buried in their crap that all of the pain will have been for nothing. You ran a great campaign, but it's obvious that they are going to keep trying to hurt us until you get out, and I am already too hurt for words."
Then what would you do?

In the grand scheme, it doesn't mean much.
If Romney beats Obama in 2012, you're not going to see all that much change.
A lot of my interest in American elections in terms of candidates and such is purely sociological.
You get guys like Cain or Obama who are pretty much blank slates - gimmicks, really. And yet people latch onto them like there's something deeper there.

I wouldn't marry a weak woman like that.. My wife would hire the attorney and the PI's for me,, if fact, I dare say that if I didn't fight, she'd make my life a living hell..
it's all about getting the right partner in life. I have the right one.
