Seeing as how he hasn't topped 20 carries a game in any of the past 3 seasons... don't count on it.

Are you so blinded by your man-crush on Peterson, you no longer no what is fact and what you crazy mind has made up?

That is one year. If you go back and look through the stats there are multiple games where he had more than 20 carries over the past 3 years...If you really want me too I can get them all for you...do you want?

Also before you spew your Peterson-love crush propaganda know the truth...

Here's a tidbit for you. Guess where Marshall, our new OL coach was on Wednesday?

I agree with that... that was Green's biggest knock in that he couldn't set up his blockers or find the holes... Lewis has always been very good at finding the holes.

Yeah, you certainly can't knock his vision, or speed at hitting the holes, (when healthy).

I said "he hasn't topped 20 carries a game in any of the past three seasons". I did not say "he hasn't topped 20 carries in a game", did I? I did the math "Sparky" so I knew what I thought was right was right before I posted it. Simply put, averaging under 20 carries a game isn't TOPPING 20 carries a game. Basic math states that 20 is not > 20. I'd argue the point more, but I'd achieve more slamming my head into a brick wall repeatedly. Then again, maybe that's what you did in preparation for your "masterful" rebuttal - it would sure explain it.

You realize that 4-5 carries more in the entire year is difference from being 20 per game right??

Yeah he was soooooooooo far away from that

A lot of talk from the inside is that Savage loves Peterson, yet no one has said he "loves Quinn." These are for the most part the same people who said Savage "loves Wimbley" last year after the combine/FSU pro day. Everyone and his momma knows that Savage wants Russell

We are talking PERFECTION,,,,

I keep thinking,,,,, Thomas, Stienbach, Fraley, Tucker and Shaffer,,,

with Lewis running behind that line, it could be a lot of fun to watch,,,

A WHOLE LOTTA FUN!

But who's gonna throw the ball?

Question, how many yards did Lewis rush on us in the 2000 season? I have 1268 for all the other seasons. He owes us 1268 + the 2000 season.

Come on. Does anyone here (other than Vers) seriously think Savage told a free agent (with no ties to the team before a contract is signed) what exactly his plans are for the draft?

Actually, I just heard Lewis on Sirius NFL Radio talking with Adam Schein and Solomon Wilcots on the Afternoon Blitz. They asked him if Savage gave him any indication what their plans were going into the draft and Jamal said that was the first question his agent wanted answered. And he said Phil assured him they are going to give him all the pieces he needs to be the feature back and to be the stud RB he was in Baltimore. Said he had offers from several other teams but knew right away that Cleveland was his choice cuz' we're going to do what it takes to "get it right"! Looking like Joe Thomas more and more every minute but you never know.

You mentioned 25-30 carries. Even in his career year, Lewis only hit 25 carries/game. It's simply not realistic to expect him to tote the rock 25-30 times given how worn down he's getting.

And you realize that its an exaggeration to run the ball 20 times the same side right???

Realize we haven't drafted Thomas...yet right?

Perfect World: 25-30

What we will get(Depending on our line) 18-23 per game

Got this in my Browns Eplaybook Instant Update just now...

"(The Browns) made some good additions to the offensive line and they're looking to make more so it looks like they're committed to the run," Lewis said. "That's what I'm interested in. That's what I've been looking for during the past three or four years.

"I was convinced when I first walked in the door and talked to the coaches and talked to Coach (Romeo) Crennel and Phil Savage and the offensive coordinator and found out what they were trying to do and where they were trying to take that organization. And I was sold. "

I always wonder what scouts and coaches do during this point in the season... especially in regards to the big name guys... like they havn't seen every game tape already??

I can understand having to review the tapes for the lesser known guys who you're going to pick up in the later rounds... but honestly... do people need to waste a day goign to see Quinn or Thomas' proday?? Like they don't already know what they can do.

For the record, Lewis had 8 games in which he carried the ball at least 20 times last year. He also had games in which he carried it for 19, 18, and 17 twice.

That's 11 out of 16 games where he carried it at least 17 times. Not bad, if you ask me.

But hey........why let facts get in the way of pimping Peterson?

and when you think about it is it Lewis' fault he didn't get 20 carries a game??

I didn't watch any but two of the Ravens game... but I'm sure he didn't get to 19 carries against someone and say to Billy "hey I need a rest" lol...

Looking like Joe Thomas more and more every minute but you never know.

Again, you can't listen to Jamal Lewis in all of this. When asked Jamal Lewis will say he's a long-term solution at feature back capable of producing at Pro Bowl quality without any help. All players are going to talk like Lewis did.

He was cut by the Ravens and got next to 0 interest in the free agent market. The Ravens wanted to bring him in for a one-year deal to split carries. The fact that no one offered him a long-term deal (when even Travis Henry and Ahman Green got some at ludicrous prices) is very telling of how the league views Lewis' future. What Savage probably told Lewis is "We're going to focus on the run and upgrade the line a bit more during the draft. As a team, we're going to be run-heavy. Right now, you're our feature back. There's a chance we take Peterson, but even if we do, you'll get a good chunk of carries while he gets accustomed to the league. If you play well enough this year, you'll hit free agency in line for a big payday - we need some running back help this year. You help, me, I'll help you." When faced with this, or the prospect of a guaranteed platoon for less money on a more pass oriented team, the decision was a no brainer.

Make no mistake about it though - Jamal Lewis is NOT a long-term answer. To throw some facts in with my opinions, here's some quotes from Savage's WTAM interview today.

Quote:

"Is he the Jamal of 5-6 years ago? No, but I still think he's a good player"

Quote:

"I think this move makes us a better team, but I don't think it closes the door on anything. I think that's one of the reasons we were attracted to Jamal because we felt like it would give him a chance to come in and be a feature back but, at the same time, it probably is not a long term answer."

Phil then talks about how trading for Willis McGahee would be a long-term deal, in essence, marrying the team to the player. He then says...

Quote:

"We were not inclined to do that because we wanted to keep our options open. Jamal just seems to be the right player at the right time for us and it keeps all of our options on the table."

Quote:

"I don't know that it impacts anything really."

What about ANY of that (or the contract length/player involved for that matter) says Adrian Peterson is no longer a possibility and that Jamal Lewis is our running back of the future? If anything, Phil is referring to Lewis as a quality stopgap. Seriously, I know you guys all love Thomas, but this signing doesn't even come close to ruling out Peterson.

I know Vers... was being a bit sarcastic/joking.... I know it's their job to be thorough and I hope and pray that they are good at their jobs. Just htink it's funny that we have this many days to decide who to pick... I also think that GMs can out-think themselves sometimes (look at what happend with M. Leinhart last year).

What happens if Detroit takes Thomas?
We don't even know if he's going to be there.
The draft gurus and professional football people think that Detroit is not going to draft anymore skill positions that high in the draft due to their missing on so many in recent drafts.
They say the safest pick is Thomas.
I think they go Quinn, but who knows.
If Thomas is gone we just may go Quinn. A good running game does take the pressure off of a quarterback.
By the way I still want Peterson.

One of the Espn guys just came out with his new mock. He has Quinn going to Detroit. Detroit does need a QB and they have Backus (sp) already as a LT.

By the way, this guy had Thomas falling to #5 and the Cards.

I've been saying that they need a QB for a while now.
It just makes common sense, but I saw a Detroit reporter on TV and he stated that the word around Detroit is they are leaning towards the safe pick of Thomas.
They felt that they needed to improve their line and pick skill positions later in the draft.
I know they have Backus and they just traded for Foster, but maybe we don't know the whole story there.

No kidding. It is getting old reading everybody bicker about it.

I will just sit back and wait. We could go any of 3-4 ways and I will be good with the decision.

Too bad a bunch of people will go from bickering to whimpering and beaching..

Lewis has made a great first impression here, he said something of the sorts on his press conference call in response to "Have you talked to Phil about a deal past this year if it goes well?"

With... "Thats always a possibility, hopefully I'll be able to retire as a Brown"

Not direct quotes, but something of the sorts

No doubt Lewis can be our feature back this year. He would help a rookie QB find his legs if Savage felt that Quinn was the best fit for us. However the fact that it is a 1-year deal also leaves the door open for Adrian Peterson to give us a 2-RB attacked matched only by New Orleans' freak backfield. I'm open to either, but prefer AD/JL to Quinn.

One thing is for sure - Savage has one hell of a smokescreen going on with who he wants to draft #3 overall - Quinn or AD?
