Mike Doss...I thought for sure that the Colts had gotten the steal of the draft in the 2nd round.

Ok so I know I'm not getting the spirit of this thread exactly right in terms of draft position etc but I just expanded it to include right and wrong generally over the last 1/2 dozen drafts. I too was flat wrong on Gallery btw.zz
Wrong: Cam Newton (so far at least, completely wrong) Pierre-Paul (I live in giants country so I pay attention to thier picks a lot) Aaron Cuury (wanted him in O & B so bad) Andre Smith Joe Flacco Revis (liked him but didn't think hed be so dominant) Brady Quinn (I though he could be the guy)
Right: Von Miller (exactly what I thought) Suh (see above) Mark Sanchez (even more erratic than I thought) Hakeem Nicks Mendenhall Calvin Johnson Joe Thomas (loved the pick. Remember a lot of folks moaning about the one below, which conflicted me greatly) Adrian Peterson (I just knew he'd change a team with every fiber of being) Venom Davis ( though he was the next great TE) Mario Williams/ Regie Bush - (thought Williams was going to be ok but I bought the hype on Bush and thought the Texans whiffed epically)

Oops, I had Williams/Bush in the "right" column. They should definitely be in the "wrong" column.

Totally forgot about Hughes...was a big fan, even considered trading back up into the 1st to get him in my mock...huge whiff...also liked Carriker and while he has disappointed a lot, he's not a complete bust...DL version of Gallery
Orakpo a bust? guy makes plays
Didn't like Rivers and E.Brown and Robo and A.Davis were on my "don't draft" list

I was a lurker on the old board for about month before I decided to join and add to the discussion. The reason? To tell everybody what a prospect Quincy Morgan was going to be!
And I remember arguing with U about Q..I said he was a dud and I wanted no part of him..U were wrong..U dropped the ball on that one!

Biggest 1st round one I can think of is Robert Gallery
I was pumped when we traded to get back in the draft to get Brady Quinn too, but I wanted Joe Thomas the most

I don't think Brown was a mistake. Not at all really. the kid went through college unscathered. I'm not sure there is a way to accurately predict what happened to him.
When healthy, Brown was all he was cracked up to be.. it's just that he couldn't stay healthy...

I agree... that was just an unfortunate thing.
He was what folks thought he could be... a beast. Injuries just had different ideas about his career.
Super unfortunate for us, and most of all for him.

Surprised no one has mention Beau Bell yet. I know a lot posters on here really liked him following drafting him.
For me, I thought Curry was going to be a monster DPOY candidate. That obviously hasn't been the case, thats my biggest miss thus far though I was on the Gallery train as well.
I thought Eli Manning was going to be a bum, same with Rapistburger having gone to school with him I saw him play and knew those around him with the team. I thought he was going to be Ryan Leaf like cocky in the NFL and hated by his teammates.
I was also skeptical of JPP ever figuring it out and producing at the NFL level. Clearly misjudged him on that as well.

I got duped into thinking Quinn was good. It's way too hard to determine quarterbacks from college to pro. Nothing is certain. Luck isn't even certain. High probability he's good, but no lock.
I did say Robert Gallery wasn't going to be great when every d-bag Browns fan slammed you if you didn't want Gallery. "LIEK ZOMG ITS THE SAFE PICK!" I said that just in general as I was not a member of this board at the time.
I thought Lawrence Maroney would be a better back, especially in the Patriots system, coming out of Minnesota he was a beast in a pretty horrible offense. Is that guy even in the league any more?
Remember Charles Rogers out of MSU? That guy was one of the best WR's in college that I've ever seen. Made every circus catch, unbelievable hands. Totally flamed out in a horrible situation in Detroit. I really thought that guy would turn into what Calvin Johnson currently is.
The one I really pat myself on the back for was Aaron Rodgers. I remember watching him fall on draft day, thinking someone was getting a really really good QB. I talked to a buddy of mine, big Packer fan, told him he wouldn't have to worry about the QB position for another 15 years and he was totally bent ouf of shape that they drafted him. Now I don't hear the end of how awesome he is and blah blah blah. I really really liked him out of college, and I am not a huge fan of Jeff Tedford's. He didn't always have the ridiculous arm strength, but he always threw a really really pretty ball.
I'm also going to pat myself on the back with Sanchez. I'm not one of those guys that wants to trade back with every pick but I think we dodged a bullet with that one.
Loved Joe Haden at our pick a few years ago, I honestly believe if there is a safe pick with high picks, it might be corner.

Your not alone there. I didn't know enough about Junkin to really speculate or have an opinion on. That was a few moons ago and I can't be sure who I want with that pick, but I am quite sure that I thought that it was a reach.
As far as listing those that I hit on,
Folks this thread is not big enough to hold 40 something years worth of the prospects whom I liked.
However I can count on one hand the Browns first round picks that where actually selected by our FO of whom I had at the top of my board. Well less the two hands anyway.
: Remember Daman at that time every team was looking for their LT.

Ok I'll pat myself on the back on this one because I never did fall for the Mike Junkin pick... I mean c'mon.. a linebacker out of Duke? seriously? with the 5th pick in the draft? You didn't even have to tell me his name for me to know that was a bad idea.

I was kind of back and forth on Quinn. In fact, I can't remember a guy I went back and forth more on than Quinn. I think that I was one of the 1st off that particular bandwagon once he hit the skids though. One guy I hated as a pro prospect was Claussen. I actually liked McCoy at the start. I had hopes that he would be a real steal. I felt that way coming into this year too. He sure showed me. Newton shocked the hell out of me. I kinda thought that he'd be OK given time, but in no way did I ever expect that he'd come close to doing what he's done. I thought that Dareus should have gone #1 overall, and thought that he'd have had more of an impact on that team. In that regard I could not have been more wrong.

I had high hopes for McCoy and Quinn, but I only feel wrong about Quinn. Quinn was a 1st-rounder, and McCoy was a 3rd. Can't be too disappointed about a 3rd-rounder not quite cutting the mustard.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I didn't think Newton was going to bust, but I wasn't high on him, I've done a 180, I think he can be more than good enough to win a SB. Carolina got that one right, big time.

Jury is still out on Newton IMO. He had an impressive start then sort of tailed off it seemed. I wasn't high on TB's QB Josh Freeman when he came out and before this season looked like I was wrong about him. Now he has a terrible year and its a little more up for debate. I'm notorious for not being high on QBs coming out. The last QB that I really liked coming out was Phillip Rivers if that's any indication.

I thought that he was top 10 material, but would need a few years to reap the rewards of his talents, so in that aspect I guess I was wrong, even though he still has plenty of room for improvement to do yet, he has exceeded expectation for sure.

LeBron James
about 4 years ago, I thought he could take Cleveland to an NBA Championship
I thought he was a closer, I thought he would stay in Cleveland, I thought he was a top 10 player in the NBA. I thought he was always going to be the best player on his team. I thought he would be the guy you want to give the ball to in the clutch situations.
I never liked the NBA, still don't, but hoped he'd get Cleveland to get the championship monkey off their back so the Browns would have less pressure and more likely to win too.
I thought he wouldn't fold vs average talent when a playoff series got tuff.
I was wrong.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I don't want to turn this into an NBA/Lebron topic, but I honestly believe that he, and Wade, and Bosh all planned this thing in Beijing, because after that point, Lebron was pretty far from clutch. I think he worked hard, but subconsciously he was not nearly as motivated as he was in '06 and '07. The Cavs got Mo Williams while Lebron was at the Olympics, after that they were blowing out people left and right, the only clutch moment he really had was the shot against Orlando, and I thought in game 5 of that same series he played his ass off. Otherwise he was a shell of what he used to be.
2006 and 2007 playoffs he was a beast. Clutch shots all over the place, literally was unstoppable in crunch time. He wasn't settling for jumpers though, he was attacking the rim.
Back to football.

I was watching a preseason game with a friend of mine back in 2005. We were both Toledo alumni, so we were keeping a fairly close eye on Lance Moore, who the Browns had signed as an undrafted free agent. When he finally entered the game, it seemed like he was getting jammed at the line and effectively taken out of the play every time he lined up. I don't recall him catching a single pass. What I do remember was turning to my friend and telling him what a shame it was that a great college player like Moore didn't have what it took to play in the NFL. I may have been slightly off on that one.

And Toledo has this guy named Eric Page that is entering the draft this year. 5'10", 180.....good hands. Had he stayed for his sr. year, he almost def. would get the receptions record for ncaa football - he's only something like 43 or 49 receptions away.
Top pick??? Heavens no. The advisory committee told him he'd likely be a 3rd to 5th round pick.
Since he's a "local" guy, that played college ball "locally", he's yet another player I will follow. (kind of like I follow Sanzenbacher).

If we could get him with one of our fourth round picks, I'd like to see Page in orange and brown. If nothing else, he should be an excellent returner.

I don't really pimp many players, and when I do I am usually right, but I did want G Warren and was good with the Braylon Edwards pick.
It's hard to call Warren a bust since he's played about 15 years now, but no, he never had the impact i thought he would.
I was expecting another Joe Greene, Warren Sapp type player.
