Watching him on TV they usually only show glimses of him except when you get an overhead view of the whole field. He does have very good closing speed. He only blew it once that I saw in deep coverage and almost got there in time to break up the pass (he made the tackle).

He only had something like 15 tackles (going from memory) and most were special teams ( he was used to protect the punter in punt formation).

I watched him in camp and he seemed to take good angles. He did get burned a few times but I want to think it had more to do with inexperience than not being able to read the offense.

I can't comment on his hips because I just don't know. I never was any good in those damn drills.

If anyone wants to watch Hamilton in camp and give me updates on the traits I mentioned earlier....I would really appreciate it.

I'm not annointing the kid, because it was just a few games, but he is an interesting prospect. I'm going to pay attention to his progress during the camps. Hopefully, he can be the answer that Pool was supposed to be.

Pool hasn't even been givin' the chance or reigns yet...But he will...

I'm witcha on Hamilton...We would be a MUCH better secondary if we find someone to beat out Pool...That's always a good thang...Much like if we found someone to beat out Andra Davis in the middle...WILLIAMS???????????????

U get seriously better when u take GOOD guys and replace them with GREAT guys...The good guys go to depth...

I'd still like to see a Center Fielder out there that can LAY SOME WOOD...An INTIMIDATOR...And Hamilton might just be the dude...He's got a solid rep in college for just that...

By no means should we HAND Center Field to Pool...

I myself LOVE the potential tandem of Jones & Hamilton more...

Thanks. Impressive numbers.

I don't know how closely you guys watch the game, but if it's more to you than just an excuse to get drunk, you probably noticed that Hamilton looked big back there and he was very active. You probably also noticed that he took playing time away from Pool. You probably also noticed the guy was moving around pretty good on the football field.

I agree with you that pool isn't exactly the player of the year out there (in retrospect I'm wondering how much prep work savage was able to do for that draft, it seems he went from butch davis' notes ) hopefully the light goes on for pool and he can be a good saftey back there for us.

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

I think Pool is a better athlete than Russell, is he the better player?

I think so, but we will see this season.

I'm going to miss Russell. He may have not been the best athlete in the secondary, but being a great athlete doesn't make you a great player. He was a smart, physical guy who lead the secondary, and I think his leadership will be missed. Well, hopefully Pool and Jones both stay healthy.

I liked Russell too. He'll forever be etched in Browns Lore for knocking Chad Johnson into the Dark Ages.

I think everyone is getting ahead of themselves here. Pool is a good player, and a great athlete. He will start come game 1, and by mid season we will all be talking about how he'll get snubbed from the pro bowl by <insert big named under performing AFC saftey here>.

Two years ago we all pretty much wrote of Sean Jones. Nobody expected him to make the team, let alone even start. Then Pool was drafted, we thought this was the end of Mr. Jones.

Funny how the situation with Jones changed, huh?

Pool will be fine. He's still learning. He's got alot of room to grow, and alot of time to do it in. Russell hit his peak. I'd rather play Pool this year knowing that he will end up being a better saftey than Russell is today.

And yes Hamilton did get some playing time last year, but because Pool was playing Corner. They HAD to play Hamilton at Saftey because Russell was out with staph.

I watched alot of the D drills last summer, and the 4 guys that looked good to me were,Williams,Mcmillian,Jerome Perry(I'm probably a bit prejudiced in his favor) and Hamilton.
I stated many times that Hamilton would make one of Jones/Pool expendable.I didn't think it would be Russell.I must have been asleep at the wheel,as I didn't know that Russell wasn't wanted.I'm not impressed with this Kasverharne,as a strond or weak safety.
Russell was the reason Jones put up such good numbers early on,he went down,so do Jones ' numbers.

Pool got to see the field quite a bit last year, unfortunately it was as a CB.
And as a CB... we should hope he doesn't see the field too much more, hehe. As a safety however, the book is out on him because I don't think we've really seen much of it yet.

It'll be interesting to watch what happens. I'm expect to get what we saw of him at CB and am hoping to see what we got outta Sean Jones.

A lot of what you say about Pool is opinion. A lot of what I said about Pool is opinion. I have no problem w/the fact that our opinions are different. However, I can't let this slide:

Pool did play corner last year, but he played FS when Russell went down. However, Hamilton replaced him at FS and Pool came OFF the field quite a bit. And in my eyes, Hamilton was WAY more active than Pool was against the same opponents. I believe the defensive coaches saw it the same way because he did come OFF the field.

Wishing things to be true do not make them true.

Perhaps Pool will turn it around this year and become the safety that Savage thought he could be and the player that many of you think he already is. But, up to this point, he has not produced on the field and he needs to make dramatic improvement to reach that status.

I also have to agree with you on Pool.

He was poor at CB .... and did nothing to stand out at S. Hamilton outperformed him on the field, and appeared to have a better overall grasp on the position.

I fear that Pool will turn out to be one of those "tweeners", with some capability at either position ..... but not a real prospect at either.

That would be a nice story if we hit on a 7th round pick.

At the same time, it looks like we may have whiffed on a 2nd rounder.

Right now I'm very intrigued by a safety combo of Jones/Hamilton, and I have a feeling that Hamilton might just beat out Pool in TC.

If you watched Pool play at CB, the Browns would only line him up against a teams bigger receiver (e.g. Keyshawn). That is a tough draw, but he did a reasonable job, considering that he is really a safety.

It was more or less due to the injuries that took out most of the CB corps.

I like Hamilton, and Perry as well, they are good developmental players that may emerge.

"You probably also noticed that he took playing time away from Pool."

I hope you noticed that our Corner situation was so grave that we had to utilize Pool on many occasions.

You say Toe-mate-o I say Toe-Ma-Toe...did he "TAKE" playing time away from POOL? or Was I injury situation so grave and hard up we had to use Pool more n more at Corner?

guess it all comes down to how you wish to present it???

I think Hamilton can be a steal...Nothing but upside and he's an excellent Special Teams player...and who knows he might become BETTER than Pool of course when and if that day comes it will be the eye of the beholder again...Cause Hamilton is that good or Pool that bad...lol

I think we will know the full story on Pool by the end of this season. He has the whole off season to work on playing saftey, and he has had enough time to get his feet wet in the NFL. Either the light will come on for him this year, or he will be replaced.

Russell jumps at chance to join Seahawks; Seattle also signs TE PollardAssociated Press
National Football League News Wire

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Seahawks tried to sell safety Brian
Russell on the advantages of coming to the Pacific Northwest.

They didn't need to put forth the effort.

"I think they tried to sell it because that is kind of the way
that recruiting trips and free-agent trips go, but I was trying to
contain myself," said Russell, Seattle's newest defensive back.
"I was really excited about getting up there."

After two years in Cleveland, Russell signed with the Seahawks --
another step in the remodeling of Seattle's secondary. On Monday,
the team introduced Deon Grant, who was signed from Jacksonville
presumably to take the spot of free safety Ken Hamlin, an
unrestricted free agent.

Russell's signing will provide extra depth for a group of
safeties that includes Grant, Mike Green and Michael Boulware. The
unit will be coached by Jim Mora.

"I know they have a good group of players up there and I know
there are four good safeties now," Russell said.

Also on Tuesday, Seattle signed tight end Marcus Pollard to a
one-year contract. Pollard spent the last two seasons in Detroit
after spending most of his career in Indianapolis. With the Lions,
Pollard's production dropped significantly this year with Mike
Martz in charge of the offense. Pollard had 12 catches and no
touchdowns. For his career, Pollard has 321 catches, more than
4,000 yards receiving and 38 TDs.

Terms of Pollard's deal were not released.

Russell started his career on the Minnesota Vikings' practice
squad but in 2003, his second full season, he intercepted nine
passes and recorded a career-high 95 tackles. Russell had 51
tackles and one interception in 12 games last season with
Cleveland.

He was extremely durable, having never missed a game until last
season, when a staph infection cost him the final four games.
Russell had been dealing with staph -- a bacteria that typically
enters the body through scratches and scrapes -- since the
preseason.

Following an Aug. 26 exhibition game at Buffalo, Russell's elbow
went from being tender to infected in a matter of hours. He had
surgery to purge the infection and only missed the club's preseason
finale.

Russell didn't miss any time during the regular season, until
December. His long surgical incision was reopened during a game
against the Steelers on Nov. 19 and he missed his first game on
Dec. 7 when Cleveland played at Pittsburgh. Russell was
hospitalized to treat the infection and was placed on injured
reserve.

"It was frustrating on my end because I felt like I was playing
good football and it wasn't like I hurt my knee or my shoulder,"
Russell said. "It was a random infection, something I never would
have seen coming."

Russell has played mostly free safety in recent seasons, but is
equally comfortable at strong safety. With Grant's signing, Russell
is likely to compete with Boulware and Green for the starting spot
at strong safety. But with the rash of injuries Seattle's secondary
endured at the end of last season, Russell's versatility is
welcome.

"I don't think it matters," Russell said about which position
he'll play. "Hopefully, I will get a chance to do both up there."
