man, why did we draft Phil Taylor. he's terrible because he went to Baylor. all this time I was so happy with what I saw on the field from him as a rookie but now I see it so much more clearly

Was that your sarcasm color

It's different when you're talking about a quarterback.

why? you said the best players won't go to Baylor. that should be for all positions.

in fact, it is harder to project QBs (see Andrew Lucks star rating coming out of HS). therefore, there should be even fewer DL going to these small schools by your theory (because it's much easier to pick out the huge, strong, quick guy who can dominate on the DL). right?

Why make it so easy...

You bring up Purdue so you're practically begging me to say Drew Brees.

I don't get it. Are you trying to look foolish?

So, what are the acceptable conferences?

adding to the previous list:
Josh Freeman Big XII
Matt Ryan ACC
Joe Flacco FCS (Delaware)
Alex Smith MWC (or WAC? They're basically the same, right?)
Michael Vick ACC
Tony Romo FCS (Eastern Illinois)
Andy Dalton MWC

Was your post really a reply to me and the things I'd said or did you just click on mine as it was the last in line?

I spent most of this season either po'ed or disappointed in Hillis. Emotions of the season has faded, I think he is worth another shot in Cleveland. Injuries frustrated him and he just never got going and hammy injuries plagued the nfl this year, likely due to the shortened training camp.

Love what I see in Richardson, but I think the smart thing to do is resign Hillis and draft the best back you can get in the 4th.

I would rather sign Tolbert in FA...he's the kind of under the radar guy that winds up in Pittsburgh...compared to Hillis he's cheaper, more durable and delivers similar production...at least he knows he's a role player though. Make him our GL back, give him 5-8 TDs, he's a very good receiver tha can play all 3 downs...give him 10-15 carries and some catches per game and he'll be happy...the rest of 10-15 carries you split between Hardesty, Jackson or Obi....whoever emerges...with Hillis it's either him or highway and I don't like this tude...especially considering where he came from and what made him such a fun guy to root for...a late round, all out effort overachiever

I wouldnt sign a FA running back since it would prevent us from gaining a compensatory pick if Hillis goes elsewhere and who knows maybe signs a deal making 6 mil a year and we get a 3rd rounder for him.

Hillis seems to have injuries every season. This past one as you note, the one before (decreased production at the end of the season reportedly because of rib fractures) and a torn hammy in Denver.

I would offer him a contract but team favorable one.

Unless you get really lucky, you won't find a Hillis replacement with a compensatory pick. Aren't they always awarded in the 6th or 7th round?

So, rather than worry about a Comp pic, if we have a chance to pick someone up as a FA that can help, I'd go that route.. JMO

They can be 3rd-7th round depending on contracts given to the guy you lost. It also depends on how many you sign v. how many you lose.

Exactly, it is all based on contract values.

Since there is a good chance we will make a play for a player or two this year, there is a good chance we won't get anything for Hillis if he signs elsewhere.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Oh,, I thought they were all 6th or 7th rounders,, thanks for clearing that up.

But, like Peen says below your post, since it appears we are going to be more active this year in FA, it may be moot.
