If Miami grabs Flynn, then the only other forseeable trade partner besides Washington would be Seattle, do St Louis or Minnesota want to drop down THAT far? Does Seattle even want to trade up for RG3? (Barkley next year)
St Louis wants Washington to make the deal NOW because if basically it's between them and us, and if we're not bidding, then theres no bidding...
If Miami signs Flynn before a trade is made, and the FO would rather trade back then grab RG3, I'd give Dan a call, work it out...
Hey St Louis, you still get Kalil, nothing personal...
yeah, that's what i am thinking as well. I really don't see how St. Louis can assume they can just trade the pick for a king's ransom. Everyone knows that they will not draft RGIII. Teams should just say "the asking price is too much"- move on to the Vikes. Get a deal in place with MN, and then offer it back to the rams.
If the Browns make it known we are not drafting RGIII, then the Cards are the team to jump. That leaves the browns as the team to talk too.
I think its in the rams best interest to get a trade done now, because as this plays out, their position weakens substantially.

I can guarantee, if the Browns pull off a trade for RGIII, the first thing the cheerleaders are going to say...the front office needs to address RGIII's supporting cast.
Wouldn't we all be cheerleaders at that point? I mean, if the kid was the new starting QB for the Browns ..... are you saying that you wouldn't cheer him on during the games?

What? You think people are going to sit on their hands waiting for the first oppurtunity to say "I told you so!"

I agree in theory but it won't work in principle.
If the Browns and Miami both "theoretically" say the price is too much ... then the price drops to whatever Washington is willing to give up to St. Louis. If we want to play ball then we have to play with them.
It's a variance of the prisoner's dilemma. .. it would make sense if we all worked together becuase the overall price would be lower. BUT we will continue to bid against each other. And even if somehow all three of us stopped talking to St. Louis ... all it would take would be one team to say "hey St. Louis ... last ditch effort ... how about this" on draft day and that;s who gets him.

I would hope that people would want the best for the Browns.
Last year, even though I thought that McCoy was holding the team back, I hoped for him to play well, and get better. That would make the team better. (although, in the final few games I was more concerned about getting a good draft pick than winning meaningless games late in another lost season)

Robert Griffin trade rumors already spinning out of control Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 28, 2012, 4:04 PM EST Robert Griffin III AP
Forget the Combine. Forget free agency. Robert Griffin III trade chatter dominates the NFL discussion these days.
And it’s still February.
Perhaps Rams COO Kevin Demoff is right: It’s getting less crazy to imagine a deal could be completed before free agency. We’ve read and heard an unprecedented amount of trade rumors about the No. 2 overall pick for this time of year.
Let’s go over the latest:
1. Mike Jones of the Washington Post writes the Redskins would give up the No. 6 overall pick and next year’s first round pick in addition to multiple picks in the mid-to-upper rounds of the draft. Consider this the starting point for negotiations.
The Rams are reportedly looking for a similar package to the one San Diego netted for Eli Manning: Two firsts (including the No. 4 overall pick), a third- and fifth-round pick. The Redskins sound ready to meet this demand.
2. lTexas A&M prospect Ryan Tannehill is watching the Griffin talk closely. Jones believes the Redskins would take Tannehill at No. 6 overal if they can’t get Griffin.
3. Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer believes the Browns will ultimately have to give up three first-round picks in order to land Griffin. Do I hear four, Redskins? (This reminds us of a classic article by the Onion.)
4. Demoff told Peter King of SI.com that the Rams received a feeler from a team “you would never expect.” Does Kansas City count? If not, we’ll roll with Philadelphia as our irresponsible guess for a mystery team. Enter your pick below.
5. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch considers the Redskins the early favorite to land Griffin. This sounds true based on all the reports, plus Mike Shanahan’s close relationship with Jeff Fisher.
______________________________ I have seen the same thing with the Phins if they dont get their guy, they will take Tannehill at 8. Lacanfora had Seattle trading up to 6 to get Tannehill in his mock. Thats a lot of buzz for somone that didnt even work out at the combines.

I tend to agree. We all make a mistake every now and then. A day or so ago I saw a post of mine after the edit period where I used a no rather than a know (there was some editing of sentence structure and the spell check didn't give me a heads up), so for that reason I don't say much unless I see it is a continual misspelling or misuse of a word, at which point I might say something, unless it was Diam, at "WITCH" point I continued to let him look like a idiot.

I like how they say the 'Skins are the frontrunner because of Shanahan's relationship with Fisher.
Yeah, that could factor in, but it isn't like Fisher is going to pass up a better deal just to appease his buddy.

I Agree, but a Redskins player (not named) might be enough to put them over the top. I see that as the joker card in this debate.
It's possible for them to tilt the scales in their favor (if) Washington has a player(s) the Rams covet and agree to include said player(s) in the deal.
I am not advocating they need to do this or that they will. Just pointing out that it's a possibly here to ponder.
The same can be said for another 'mystery team'.

2 & 3 are pretty much textbook examples of "media hype." Claims by reporters of what teams may do with nary a source in sight. 4, if adequately paraphrased, is a GM trying to drum up interest in his asset. I bet "feelers from a team you wouldn't expect" is code for "Jerry Jones asked me how much the 'Skins are offering."
We're probably going to hear a lot more about all of this, and it might carry a little more weight by March 20th. For now, we're all just whistlin' Dixie.

Ah I couldn't help it as it was a great word to describe Colt, and it was meant more in jest than to be correcting.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. Not sure if there's a player that the Rams love that's currently on the Redskins, but maybe there is.
But, I don't know that Shanahan and Fisher being friends is going to push that through.

Totally agree. If the skins get the pick, they may have to give up Trent Williams or Brian orakpo. I could see the rams wanting to get something of a known quantity to drop all the way to 6.

Funny thing is that the owners are also great friends and spend a lot of time together. If there is anyway for them to get the deal done they will. It is just much easier for them to work out a compromise.

And that makes sense. But, if there's a deal on the table from another team that makes better sense for the Rams as a football team, they'll do it. They're not going to pass up a good deal just to appease their buddy.

In the world that we live in the price for Griffin is highest right now.
If I am the Rams, the 4 and 22 is what I have my eye one. Greatest impact to the team now, especially if they are resolved to trade the pick. And especially if Blackmon is the target.
Picks next year won't have the same impact as a pick this year, and waiting a year for the pick will smart. We know that from the Jones trade.
So if I am the Rams, I am trying to maneuver Cleveland into getting as much as I can now.
Remember, Manning was drafted by the Chargers, then traded after the Giants picked Rivers. History could repeat itself.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

Maybe one of those two and a receiver together with Draft picks ... anyway I have considered the friendship angle for some time now and think that their dialog could be more then business like. For instance ... what can we offer you to make this thing work for the both of us?
How about if we throw in so and so?
Fisher ... how about so and so? ect...

The thing is, The FO of the Browns has repeatedly told us, we will build through the draft. so, unless they are changing thier tune (which of course, they could do) then I don't see them diving head first in the FA Market.
Don't we kind of have to, though? I'm not a salary cap guru, but don't we have to spend like 90% of our cap this year, and have like $50mil in cap space?
We aren't going to fill that by signing 50 rookies. If there is a time to delve into Free Agency, this is the year.
No,, we don't have to spend that this year.. I believe there is one more year with out that barrier

I don't think this FO has a problem with Free Agency. I think they're just cautious about signing guys who might be on the wrong end of their career.
If a guy like Dwayne Bowe was available, a guy at a position of need who is just entering his prime, I think this FO would jump on that.
I don't disagree with you.. but what is it we are asking them to do once they dump a bunch of picks to run up to grap RG3? we are saying,, go get Free Agents, round out the roster with talent,, and we are on our way..
SO, it's not going out and getting a Bowe and that's it.. it's about going out and getting 2, 3 maybe 4 or 5 Free Agents that make a difference.. that's a lot to ask.. I don't think they'll do it.

IIRC they had an agreement in principle, but by the Chargers Drafting him first gave the two teams more time to work on the details of the trade as they where on the clock.

J/C RANT. Nothing really to say on this that has not been said on one thread or another. But I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, DO NOT WANT RG3! Alot of people bitched and moaned when Hillis listened to his agent and did not play when he was capeable. Now the Browns are after a kid at the combine who did not throw because his agent did not want him to hurt his draft position. Does not look good to hide your flaws. Nor does it look good that the Browns would consider trading most of their draft away sight unseen. Why is everyone is whooping it up like he is the next, next, next, savior of the lowly Browns, Redskins, Miami, etc. Dejavu much? What am I missing here that makes everyone want this kid? He obviously has throwing mechanics issues? Another project. Who just happens to be a step or two quick. IMNSHO a running QB will not win any more games with the line and playcalling and attrocious defense the Browns have fielded. THE BROWNS NEED BODIES TO FILL GAPING HOLES.! And I do not believe QB is one of those holes. IMO we fills those holes this year. And if we absolutley do not win. Then "SUCK for Barclay" ( sp?) How is RG3 an improvement over Colt assuming this happens? Throwing a green QB in to learn an inpossible scheme with a questionable line NO playmakers at WR and maybe less a stud RB. We need bodies. Not more QB's running for their lives for Pete's sake! So I mentioned earlier we are heading for the "trifecta of failure" We look to be heading in the direction of no Hillis. And now there are rumors flying around that we are actually considering trading away everything for one kid that maybe can't throw? Wow. Just wow. No wonder most Browns fans hope for 5-6 win seasons and are "OK" with that. I'm not. Looks to be another long season. Here's to hoping otherwise.
Einstein could not even fathom the mathematical improbabilities of the Browns woes.

Philip Rivers has mechanics issues too.
I don't care how you throw a ball, I care if you can throw it hard and accurately. And Griffin can do both while moving.
I am starting to question how many times people have seen Griffin play that say he has problems throwing the ball. That is about as asinine as you can get.
you had a good run Hank.

Yup. When I first saw that report I couldn't help but blurt out "Is THAT the best ESPN can come up with to stir the pot?!?! Swing.....and a MISS!"
Of course then it got even dumber when they suggested another GM had a leg up because both he and Griffin went to Baylor. What was that...like 2 generations ago? Griffin's desires plays a role in this..how?
It's really simple: The Browns have the advantage because we can offer this highest picks, end of story. The 'Skins are second because while they don't have the ammo we do, they probably have more drive and desire to roll the dice. Then it's the Fish, and finally one of these super-longshot teams. All the rest of ESPN's BS hype is just that: BS. They gotta market themselves and the best way to do that is to pawn imaginary scenarios off onto our sensibilities.
Some of the stuff they come up with nowadays is preposterous.

Couldn't disagree more. EVERYTHING has a point of diminishing returns. I don't care how much you may like a guy. No one player is worth throwing an entire Draft at.
So you would not trade your entire draft for a rookie Peyton Manning? I think we just learned how much he is the ENTIRE COLTS team this year....With Peyton..they are a perennial Super Bowl contender every year...without him...they are the worst team in the league and getting the #1 pick. If you feel a QB is "THE GUY" ...You have to go get him.... Would you rather be a playoff team for the next 10 years...or continuing to draft in the top half of the round for the next 5?
Eli, Peyton, Ben, Rodgers, Brady, Brees....The last 9 seasons...these 6 guys took 13 of the 18 QB spots in the Super Bowl...and are the only SB winners. You got to get the QB spot right if you want a shot at the discount double check belt.

YT...I'm no "cheerleader" OF THIS DEAL and you know it !
You on the other hand, spent considerable effort in another thread attempting to show the Browns don't need a running game any better than we had last year (31st in NFL), if we just draft RGIII.

1) If you sort by e amount of yards from scrimmage, that does show the Browns were better than 31st. They were 31st by .1 of a yard, and that almost certainly was because of Hillis missing time. I wish I could get the stats with him in the lineup but never the less...
Source: http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?s...;qualified=true
2) The New York Giants were the worst team in the NFL running the ball last year. The Packers, Bengals and Patriots were all among the worst teams running the ball as well. The top 3 teams running the ball were the Panthers, Vikings and Eagles.
The days of a great running game carrying a team are over. It's why no one wants to draft a running back in the top 5.
Either way, you are flat out saying that you will not support RGIII if we trade for him?

I disagree with this comment. The NFL goes in cycles and is a copy cat league. Someone has some success and many team copy it. Right now it's a passing league but in 4-5 years it could easily be a running league again. It all goes is cycles.

HACK
If you GUARANTEE that not only is that player the next Greatest Ever at the position like a Peyton Manning, but that as a result we WILL have the continual success the Colts have experienced? Yes, I would.
If you cannot GUARANTEE ALL of that (e.g. if you no longer have your magical hindsight) - hell no, you do NOT take that kind of risk with your franchise for a single player, unless you're Mike Ditka.
Dear Mr. Rooney,

that is an unfair argument because what are the odds that a new guy becomes Peyton Manning?
maybe 5-10% for a really outstanding prospect (like Luck). despite all this hyperbole about RGIII going, there is still very little argument to taking him over Luck going on.
so, let's just assume that RGIII is in the next tier of prospects (not this year, but in general). maybe 1% chance he becomes Peyton Manning?
we can still get plenty of value out of him if he doesn't become the OC on the field with a laser arm and impeccable accuracy, but that doesn't make your argument any more fair.

It's a bogus argument anyway, because there's no way to know NOW whether he's Peyton Manning or Mike Phipps - that one worked out really well for the Browns, by the way!

Thats really the point...and thats what your FO has to decide.
Yes..Its Peyton Manning hindsight.....Its Drew Brees hindsight.....but if RG3 goes on to be the next Peyton Manning/Drew Brees/Aaron Rodgers...and you didnt go get him because you wanted to build around more picks..
There is always risk in any pick..but if your FO has done their homework...and think this is the guy...then you go get him...if you feel he is not...then you don't....the odd of getting a Manning are slim....but if you traded three 1's a 3 a 4 and two 5's to get him....You have your QB for the next 15 years....or you could just as easily not make the trade...and keep this 3 year run.
(1) Kellen Winslow (4) Luke McCown (5) Amon Gordon (1) Braylon Edwards (3) Charlie Frye (5) David McMillan (1) Kam Whimbley
You have to decide who helps you more...The chance that Peyton Manning is one of the best QB's in the league...or the chance that these 7 guys are going to help your team more......both are using hindsight....and both will get your fired if you are wrong.

I see your point Hack but you are wrong. EVERYTHING has a price. What if it turns into being 3 firsts, 4 seconds, 3 thirds, Joe thomas, D'Qwell Jackson, and Joe Haden?
Is it still worth that much to have the QB in place?

That's why you have to do your due diligence, and make sure the guy is the read deal.
If you do, and he is, what should you do then? Should you sit still and pray that he somehow falls to your team, even if there is zero percent chance that it happens, or do you make a move to go get him?

If the cowboys are the mystery team which I think it is pretty certain that it is Jerry Jones, the bidding between Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder is not one the Browns should involve themselves in. The only winner will be the Rams and the teams that didnt get RG3.

Because, if we DON'T make the trade, then the past WILL repeat itself and all of our picks will completely fail. Of course, gotcha... there's just no chance at all that the picks will work out otherwise

yeah, when i heard mystery team for RGIII, i thought of Jerry Jones as well.
Same can be said for a mystery team for Manning as well. Wouldn't that be crazy, Manning with a star on his head.
