Ben Tate--- interesting, i think this the guy we really wanted in that draft. But when the Texans took him, there was only one "big back" left, and we came up for Hardesty. Not sure what this says about Hardesty though, guess Heckert realizes he made a mistake???

Eric Wright -5 year deal. Did this guy get better in Detroit?
i was a bit disappointed we lost him last year. Not spectacular, but a contributor and he would have been better then Sheldon Brown.

veeeery interesting.
the guy is a load. On here we've been targeting RBs in the 3rd or fourth round for the most part. If we can get one for one of those picks I'd feel good about it. Tate is a known quantity with a chip on his shoulder. He's stuck behind Foster's pile of money. I like it.

But wouldn't they at least wait til they had Manning committed first? Must be more to do with the bar incident than anything. Manning has denied even saying he didn't want to play with Marshall.

Bucs Sign Eric Wright http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/03/14/bucs-agree-to-deal-with-cb-wright/?module=HP11_headline_stackBy Jason La Canfora | Published: March 14th, 2012 | Tags: 2012 free agency, Carl Nicks, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Eric Wright, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cornerback Eric Wright has agreed to terms with the Buccaneers, according to a league source. Wright, receiver Vincent Jackson and guard Carl Nicks were the Bucs’ top three targets in free agency this year, and now they’re 2-for-3, with Jackson agreeing a five-year deal Tuesday and now Wright following suit. The Bucs are working on securing Nicks, the All-Pro former New Orleans Saints guard, to a long-term contract. Wright played in Detroit last year after spending his first four NFL seasons in Cleveland. He tied his career high with four interceptions in 2011.

I agree. Tate looked every bit as good as Foster running behind the Texan OL.
I think it might take more than a 3rd though. Houston has no reason to trade him for below market value (always can use a 2nd RB to take the load off) and they invested a 2nd in Tate. I would suspect they are eyeing #37 for him.

I'd offer a 3rd, Hardesty, and MoMass. Might as well start low.

Browns NOT Pursuing Flynn Quote:
Report: Browns not pursuing Matt Flynn Posted by Michael David Smith on March 14, 2012, 9:12 AM EDT
Reports that free agent quarterback Matt Flynn is talking to the Browns are being debunked in Cleveland.
Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Browns have not pursued Flynn, and that they’re not planning to make him an offer.
The person who should be happiest with that news is Colt McCoy. The Browns didn’t trade up with the Rams to draft Robert Griffin III and aren’t pursuing Peyton Manning, and if they’re not after Flynn either they may think going with McCoy as the starter for another year is the way to go.
The person who should be unhappiest with that news is Flynn. Although he was perceived as a hot prospect in free agency after his tremendous performance in Week 17 against the Lions, he has fallen by the wayside a bit in the last couple of weeks as all the attention on quarterbacks has been focused on Griffin and Manning.
For the Browns, a wild card in all this is Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Most draft analysts view Tannehill as a reach at No. 4 overall, where the Browns are drafting. But if Cleveland thinks he’s going to become a good NFL starter, he could be an option — and that option could be a reason they’re not pursuing Flynn.
Flynn has to hope the Dolphins don’t land Manning. Miami is Flynn’s best landing spot, thanks to his familiarity with coach Joe Philbin’s offense, and if Manning doesn’t end up in Miami, there’s a good chance that Flynn will.
And if Flynn doesn’t land in Miami, we’re not sure where he’d go.

I think they want too much for him right now, possibly a first. As far as Flynn, when you come out and say that you would like to go to Miami or Seattle first and then Cleveland last, they might have just said forget it. They have maintained they weren't going to pursue him and the report's that we were making an offer was to try and force Miami to make an offer.

I think it would take a 2nd and a 4th.

I would be very leery about getting an RB from the Texans. They run the same O that Denver used to,any RB that carried the ball looked good there, and bad everywhere else.

I'd rather get Bernard Pierce or Robert Turbin than give up a 2nd round pick though...
and if they are so confident in Hardesty.. they shouldn't be trying to pursue him..

Tampa gets Nicks. Saints reportedly pursuing Grubbs.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Buccaneers have reached an agreement with offensive guard Carl Nicks on a five-year, $47.5 million contract with $31 million guaranteed.
Assuming the numbers are accurate, Nicks has surpassed Logan Mankins as the NFL’s highest paid guard, both in terms of annual pay and guaranteed money. Nicks is getting $9.5 million a year. Mankins got $8.5 million annually with $30 million guaranteed.
Florio will have a more revealing post on Nicks’ contract in short order.
The Saints were concerned how Nicks would react if paid top dollar in free agency. Though they submitted a contract offer just before the signing period began, it wasn’t in the real of the Buccaneers’ proposal.
Tampa Bay has now landed two of the top-ten players on the PFT Free Agent Hot 100. web page
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

So far.. I guess I'm giving Heckert the Honesty to the Press award. He said we wouldn't be big players in FA.
We sure haven't been. Oh well. I still hope that somehow we keep Hillis but I don't see that happening. If we lose him, we'll have to get Tate and over pay or draft Richardson and then there is the Tannehill problem.
It's tough being patient and a Browns fan.

If you would have thought what I said thru, you would have realized "used to" meant when Shanny and Kubiack were in Denver, years before Hillis. It would also appear that Heckert doesn't hold Hillis in the same high regard as you do.

Both overrated, 1 dimensional RBs imho....Wilson, Martin and even L.James are more complete backs
Anyway...looks like it's no coincidence that we traded up for Hardesty when Tate was picked by Houston...looks like Heckert really liked Tate and then traded up to get the last RB in his "tier"
I would have no problem trading for Tate...he's young, has lots of miles left and he's real good...I'd offer to switch picks #22 and #58 (mid 2nd value) and throw in a 6th...we'd still retain a valuable pick and only lose a late rounder

Why should I have to fill in your blanks? You made a statement, I pointed out a very obvious exception from our own back yard.
And being that we've tried working out a new contract with Hillis means that we do hold him in high regard.... the fact that Hillis is testing the waters simply means that he holds his value higher than what we've offered.
