You could probably fake the symptoms, but they generally do am MRI to see if there is a tear in the muscle.
I would think that making a tear show when there isn't one would be pretty difficult.

He could've smuggled in someone else's torn hammy, right? Like people do with pee tests?
Wait, should I have made that purple?

Can't say that I ever "tore" my hamstring..........but I have, twice, "pulled" it. And each time it happened, I fell like load of bricks. One time rounding third base - and I was down for the count.
Another time playing flag football - and I was down. Period.
Each time, I dealt with a tennis ball sized lump sticking out of my hamstring. Walking was painful.

Sprains and strains are tears ..... just much, much smaller ones.

I don't know about all of that - I'm just telling you I went down like a 10,000 lb weight landed on my back. Both times. And the knot on my hamstring was something to behold if I do say so myself.

This may sound like a dumb question, but is it even possible to fake a hammy injury?
I would say yes like Ytown already pointed out, but only the symptons, you can not fake the MRI.

OK, if that's the case, what do you think the chances are that the DIDN'T do an MRI on him?
I ask because, if they didn't do an MRI on him, then maybe there is room for conjecture.. if they did and it showed the injury, then shouldn't that put the subject to bed?

Dang you folks will argue the most pointless crap around here ad nauseum, when it takes a few seconds to look this up. Peyton Hillis has hamstring injury Updated: October 17, 2011, 10:53 PM ET BEREA, Ohio -- No matter the coast or the opponent, Peyton Hillis can't seem to outrun the drama. Cleveland's running back, who since the season started has been involved in controversies surrounding contract negotiations with the Browns and his decision to sit out a game with strep throat, is again at the center of a mini-mystery surrounding an injury he sustained in Sunday's game at Oakland. Hillis is nursing a strained left hamstring, an injury Browns coach Pat Shurmur said happened on a carry in the first quarter of Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Raiders. An MRI taken Monday confirmed Hillis' injury, and Shurmur said it's too early to say he'll miss this week's game against Seattle. web pageThere, his hammy was confirmed by an MRI, he was injured. He was too immature to deal with his celebrity and made some bad choices along the way. He's gone. Both he and his wife are closer to their homes now, that's good for them. Management obviously didn't want him very badly and felt it was better he left, in their eyes, good for the Browns too. I swear you could put up a post about the sky being blue and you'd get three pages of bickering why it's not.

At one point, early in the season, the Browns offered Hillis a 3 yr deal worth 16.5 mill with 3 mill guaranteed. Hillis and his agent turned it down and started their games in an attempt to get the Browns to offer more. Quote:
Florio can be skeptical all he wants, it was the Browns who sent Hillis home from practice with the strep throat. I swear if some bozo in the press reported Hillis crapped out solid gold bars every time he went to the bathroom some of you guys would believe it
GM...can a player milk an injury?
...can a player take a small injury and pretend it's much worse?
Ever see a football player play with a hammy?...happens all the time..every game.
Most every player in the NFL has already learned to play with pain and injuries by the time they reach the NFL. One of the best ways to measure the mental and physical toughness of a player is how they deal with pain and injuries...do they play through the pain or do they stand on the sidelines, unable to overcome?
It's rather obvious that Hillis' teammates were not buying into his injury and strep throat excuses, or they would never had their meeting with him. After watching Hillis clown around before the 49er game, the veterans on the team had enough of Hillis' games...so they called the meeting.
It should also be noted, the tone of the meeting was not all negative. Hillis was given advise about how to deal with his situation in an effort to prove his worth and value to the front office...but what did Hillis do...Hillis chose to stand on the sidelines for another month.
At that point, Hillis punched his ticket out of town, because his teammates had enough of him and his prima dona tactics.
