i don't think Sully would have gone #1 overall. but, somewhere in the top5-7 was likely.

that Kansas game could have really hurt him because it showed how 1 7fter could take him out of a game.

He's going to be lucky to go in the top 12-13 at this point IMO.

To be fair, he won't be matched up against other team's tallest guy in the NBA most of the time.

I'm still soured on him though. Someone who ends up a good solid NBA 4 beasts in a game like that. He punked out.

I still think he has somewhat of a high ceiling, but he needs to further develop his game, either by taking it out on college kids or by taking his lumps in the NBA.

How many guys go into the NBA needing to develop, and wind up actually doing so?

quite a few actually. Gerald Wallace, Dwight Howard (taken #1 overall he was a wreck on offense initially), really LeBron and Kobe were in the same boat there. Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph are good ones. Et cetera.

a lot, it's just that a whole bunch of them can, but don't because the NBA owners hand out big contracts to almost anyone. Plus a lot of these guys get off on talent alone without needing to develop.

I think no_logo was right about all of those. Both Gasol brothers actually. I think from our end Andy has developed himself into a much better basketball player.

When I think of development, I don't just think the top tier players, but I also think of a guy like Antonio McDyess, who was a lottery pick, had a ton of hype behind him, and one day, he swallowed his pride, knew wasn't a superstar player, and learned to become a guy who could play off the bench, and that guy played 16 years and made a ton of money. I think if just half of the lottery picks who don't turn into Lebron or Dwight Howard did what he did, the league would be so good.

Must be more than I originally though .... because it seems like a lot of times there are guys who leave college early but aren't ready ..... and wind up washing out because they don't get the playing time they need to actually develop.

I think it's more that they get the $$$ and lose the desire to keep working hard.

Take a look at Alonzo Gee. He was getting garbage-time minutes for the Spurs, Wizards and Cavs. But, he kept working his butt off, moved to Poland to get some extra run in the offseason, and is now a long-term rotational guy for us. That's improvement.

Player A: 17.5 PPG, 10.6 REB, 55.9% FG, 35.4% 3 PT, 76.7% FT

Player B: 17.6 PPG, 9.3 REB, 51.9% FG, 40% 3 PT, 76.8% FT

Player A is Kevin Love.

Player B is Jarred Sullinger.

Am I saying he's going to be Kevin Love? No, I'm not but I do think he's going to be a much better pro than people think. His rebounding and outside shooting touch will translate really well to the next level IMO.

Sullinger was dominant in the first 3 rounds. Did he struggle against Withey? Sure, he did but I also watched Withey dominate on defense against UNC (who has 2 NBA front court players that are more athletic than Sullinger).

Sometimes too much stock gets put in to one game (i.e. Kansas), especially when OSU lacks the additional interior size needed to even out frontline matcups. Under what scenario is a team going to be able to put an athletic center on him, the whole game, in the NBA?

He'll slide in the draft over those concerns (that larger players will give him problems) but he still has a really good chance to be successful. If he can cut some additional weight (as he has these past 2 years), he seems like a good pick and roll candidate at the next level.

So why did we get rid of Daniel Green? He wasn't a better option than Anthony Parker or Manny Harris?

Shooting guard for San Antonio lighting us up tonight for 16 points in the first half, been good for them all season. We drafted and developed him, then let him go last year, I think. You know, because of our awesome depth at shooting guard.

Well let's see .... I looked him up .......

He averaged 2 PPG for us in 2009-2010 in 20 games ...... then, last year. averaged 5.1 PPF for the Spurs in 8 games played.

He was a 2nd round pick.

This year he is averaging 8.4 PPG as a starter. That's OK, but hardly superstar status. It's actually subpar starter status.

No wonder I don't remember him.

I'm not saying he's a world beater, but it's not like we've had anyone else. He's starting for a championship contending team.

Cavs look like they want to make a nice run for the #2 or #3 pick the way they've been playing the past month....getting blown out by 20-30 points every night

At this point, the team seems to understand what the end goal is.

The #3 pick seems out of the question though (or should I say #3 odds).

There are only 15 regular season games left and the Cavs are 4 games ahead of New Orleans in the win column (with 6 fewer losses). Given the Hornets only have 13 wins in 53 tries, I can't see them making up 4.5 games on the Cavs with just 15 to play.

Even so, #4 odds gives you:

11.9% chance at #1
12.6% chance at #2
13.3% chance at #3

Ideally the Cavs would, at minimum jump 1 slot when the ping pong balls fall (top 3). That would guarantee them Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist or Beal.

Right now we are the #4 spot if everything falls in order. ESPN has us taking Bradley Beal at #4. Besides the impact Anthony Davis can have on a team, there isn't much to separate the top 6 picks. I'd be fine with any of those guys.

we dropped Danny Green thinking that Manny Harris and Alonzo Gee (who the Spurs had dropped) were better than him at the time. Gee proved we were right with him, Manny hasn't stepped up.

if you look at it as a trade of end-of-bench guys (Green for Gee), then I'd say we are still pretty happy right now.

the Raptors pick-n-roll style absolutely kills our defense. and that is when we were healthy.

Think that teams would be screaming for an investigation if that happened?

We won the lottery for James.

We won the lottery for Irving.

If we win the lottery for Davis too ..... well, who cares what other teams think or want?

Man, give me Davis and a sharpshoting SF or SG who can create his own shot ...... and I'd take this team to war.

Does Davis have that high of a ceiling? I keep hearing he's a Marcus Camby-type prospect. He's young, so his offense could become better....but as it stands right now, you'd be drafting a rebounding, shot-blocking, D-playing machine with some offensive potential. Right?

Aren't there other players with higher ceilings coming out of college?

What do the Cavs need most going into next year to make the next jump (contend for a playoff spot)?

on defense, that is about right. on offense, he needs to develop himself in the paint more, but he's a much more polished shooter and ball-handler than Camby ever was or will be. he's a HS Bball guard who grew 9 inches and is now playing PF/C.

not since Dwight Howard

Davis has a pretty decent stroke from 15-17 feet away from the basket.

I'm not saying he's going to be a bigger beast than Howard, because I don't think he will be (to his defense, nobody really has been since) but I think he has potential to be a better basketball pllayer. Davis has a pretty big frame, but it's not as big as Dwight's when he was 18 coming into the NBA. You just knew if he filled out correctly, he'd be a force underneath the basket. But that's all he really has been. Good around the rim on defense and on offense, and a good rebounder. I haven't seen much development otherwise.

I also see where Bryan is coming from with MKG, If I were a GM I'd at least be tempted to take a look at him if I had the choice between the 2 of them.

I get the feeling Drummond might have a higher ceiling than Davis ... it's just that Davis has shown that he has a much better chance of actually hitting/getting close to his ceiling.

Marcus Camby was a defensive force for most of his career.

Davis ceiling is Tim Duncan his floor is Camby.

Thanks fellas.....the only thing left to do is keep tanking I suppose.

I'm looking forward to the NBA playoffs for the first time since the Cavs lost to Orlando (the following year was going to end badly, I knew it).

I'm pulling for a Thunder and Bulls Finals. Heck....just give me the Thunder winning it all, that would be enough.
