I liked him, he had the kind of football attitude I would have if I played. I don't care if I get the ball, I just want to hit people. But, like a lot of others have said, we shouldn't be too surprised.

Someone mentioned Brian Leanord from Rutgers. If you got time go to youtube and type in Ray Rice and Brian Leanord. As a FB that boy has some serious ups as he hurdles many would be tacklers> Someone should post it. I cant at work.

I liked Smith and am sorry to see him go. This move doesn't make alot of since to me but I bet it has something to do with this new attacking offense...
Shouldn't every offense be an attacking offense because if not they would be considered a defense?
Basically I see a lot of shuffling going on but until we fix the lines we are going to continue to suck... as far as I am concerned Smith is just the latest casualty of inferior coaching, game planning and game management. Put all the fresh meat you want into this grinder, at the end of the day you still gonna get the same sorry ground beef.

I have to mirror a few thoughts.
More talk than action. I onyl saw him actually mash guys a few times.
He can't catch well, and never created those holes I was confident he would. I nhonetly thought he was our lorenzo neal.
Oh well, chalk another one up.
From what I have seen of Vickers I like him, but I will wait to pass judgement till next season.

Really only one good season of a running game....."05"....
Not saying it was him...(Carthon...O-L)...
The QB gets blamed for lots of stuff that goes wrong with the passing game...Even if it`s Not entirely his fault....
So maybe he`s being blamed for some ...not so great running yardage?

Well I think it is less a knock on him being a good blocking fullback and mor a knock on his versatility.
Plus, we didn't draft Vickers (the best FB on the board) to let him sit.
I fuly expected Terelle to get out in front and block down feild. He never got the chance because he was trying to pick up blown assignments. Just because he was a dissappointment here, doesn't mean he wont get picked up elsewhere, becasue he will.

It's a shame, I always liked him... but I can't fault the move. Whether our backs couldn't/wouldn't follow him or the fact that he looked like The Waterboy when trying to catch a pass outta the backfield, his production here was just minimal and from what I can tell he doesn't really fit the mold of the type of FB we're wanting.

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

and smith is so one dimensional.. i hated when they passed the ball to him cuz he never got any extra yards.. and then he would get up all krunk like he did something tight..

Too bad for TS, he provided locker room leadership and was of high character off the field.
Maybe Chud's priorities are to have both Lewis and Peterson in the backfield to create a two headed monster and have Lewis assume the role of a versatile full back. If I recall he has good hands. The two in the backfield together could be a dangerous weapon.
On a side note, I don't think TS hit/blocked as many people as most would like simply because rushers were getting to the QB from all angles. On that note, therein lies the argument to draft Thomas.

This is no real surprise. I liked his intensity but intensity alone doesn't win ball games. Vickers brings more versatility to the offense. Not to mention there is no need for two FB's

This does not surprise me at all. I think toad hit it on the head.
Smith was a one dimensional back with a "I block for 1000 yard rushers" mentality. With Smith in the game, it was a forgone conclusion that the Browns were probably going to run.
Smith had no where near the capability of Lo Neal, who is similar, but a much better pass reciever and slightly better runner.
Vickers may not be quite the blocker, but offers better hands and the potential to gain more than a yard out of the backfield.
I just wish the Mo bashers would lay off him for the passes and 3 and 1 sweeps.

Smith is a blocker period. When in the game it signalled run. The way they utilized him was terrible and made it obvious what the play was.
Vickers is a fullback, but he is also a good short yardage back. That was his MO coming into the league, getting the tough yards on 3rd and short. He also is a good reciever out of the backfield.
I personally love the idea of him and Lewis in the backfield. Two potential ballcarriers on short yardage plays. Also gives another option on play action passes.
Smith is old school, and I think the game has passed him by.

I'm pretty sure thats the opposite of his MO. He is/was a pass catching guy who could run in space but was an average blocker and short yardage guy. Just because Mo used him on those 3rd and shorts doesn't mean he's good at it (as you may have been able to tell by the results)

I don't have the reports, but I'm pretty sure he was known for converting on short yardage plays, and that was the most discussed part of his game when he was drafted. Contrary to what you state, I think his pass catching ability was second shelf.
Anything Mo did was out of the ordinary. He's the same guy who took Smith and Winslow out on 3rd and short, and used Vickers to throw instead of doing what he was known for...pounding out short yardage.

Funny thing, Rueben never followed him last year either. In fact if you go rewatch the games, he constantly cut back away from the blocking. Ask EO, he noticed it too.

Little surprised at this. Great blocking FB, but not much of a running FB. Maybe Vickers, who is more versatile, will step it up and become a better blocker. Hope this works out. Good luck Terrelle. I'm gonna miss this guy's fire as well. He had a mean streak.

I hate to see Smith go, but I understand why he was cut. He was a good hard nosed FB, and a solid team player. Everybody needs to remember our 0-line from last season. Just like everybody else in the backfield he looked worse playing behind that injury riddled unit. I wish him luck, and thank him for busting his ass playing hard nosed football for the Cleveland Browns.

Terrelle Smith is one heckuva football player who did the best he could for the Browns...He will be picked up as his blocking skills as a lead blocker rank him with the best in the league.

Thank you Jesus. T. Smith and any full back is a waist of roster space in my opinion. Welcome to the year 2007 and the modern era of offense. Fullbacks are useful in one situation, and that is goal line. Why we need to take up a spot for a situational player is beyond me. All you really need to do is stick Heiden back there or an athletic guard.
Maybe this means we will actually deploy a multiple receiver set, with actual receivers and not full backs flanked out wide. I never understand that concept to begin with.

I'm gonna miss those occasional quick hitters up the middle with TS... always good for a yard.  As others stated, he wasn't an all-around fullback. Just a glorified blocker. Well, good luck Terrelle, you got some heart and I hope things work out for ya.

Why was he cut, when we had 4 teams wanting to trade for him if the the below excerpt from Packer article is true???? Odds and ends: The Packers tried to get St. Louis wide receiver Kevin Curtis in for a visit but on Thursday he signed with Philadelphia. . . . The Packers were one of four teams that discussed trading for fullback Terrelle Smith before Cleveland cut him Wednesday.

Discussed trading for him and wanting to trade for him are two completely different things. 4 teams may have 'discussed' it for a second or two and then realized that he would be released anyway, so why trade?
