expect us to go quite heavy on DB's in UDFA after the Draft as well.

We need a lot of help back there and it costs nothing to look at UDFA's... and with the holes we have back there we're a more attractive team to the average UDFA DB as they have a better shot of latching on here than most other teams.

Granted, Bodden was probably lightning in a bottle, But could we get lucky again?

Something else we might want to keep in mind, it took a couple of years for Bodden to surface... I think it was after Baxter went down he got thrown into the mix and did very very well,

I wouldnt mind grabbing someones reject at CB, or an udfa plus further developing Holly and Bodden. We have done well so far in that area. Tucker seems to be able to bring the best out of a CB. But heres to hoping Minter breaks out this season, or a decent veteran gets cut after the draft.

Okay so lets take a look at weight on our OL, I think the road grader trend is out the door

Sowells 324
Druzzi 315
Matua 305
Fraley 300
Steinbach 298
Mc Kinney 310
Smith 306
Is it just me, that our OL seems light compared to the rest of the league except for DEN. I thought a smash mouth football team need to have more weight in their arse. I tend to believe we will see more speed on the OL as well.

Just a side note, don't take the players weights on the roster to be accurate.
Hank has never played at 300lbs.

He for example is 6'3 and 318-325
it might be the same for other guys as well.

hehe, not to mention they list Big Ted at "only" 365.... we *know* he's more than that, hehe

They prolly don't got a scale big enough for him...They probably had to use some set of complex numbers & equations just get 365 as a guesstimate ....

First, his play has fallen off for 2 straight years, and he ain't gonna get better with age...........he's past his prime, and he wasn't a beast in his prime........just avg, and now he's below avg. The best thing we could do for Tuck is to draft Thomas and move him to RG, because he lost a step that he didn't have to lose at RT............af RG his feet won't be near the problem they will at RT. Second, and I hate to say this, because I believe Tucker is a good man that has a disorder, but we don't know if Tuck is going to battle his disorder from here on out or not. We can't just assume that he's going to be okay, and get kicked in the nuts like last year if it happens again. You guys can call me a jerk if you want, and I to feel sorry for him, but this isn't the time to go in with our pants down..............we know there's a history, and I guarantee you that Phil is looking at Plan B because of it............and if not he isn't doing his job.

thanks Dainielle...didn't know which way they tipped the scales...down or up...lol

Quite Frankly...290-320 Visually looks the same. I'd hate to meet a guy 290 and say - HEY! YOU BEEN GOING TO THE GYM? What are you now a size 42? You skinny thing you...lol

318? You don't look a pound over 300?

Its all about Power-Speed n Leverage. Yes, you can't be 250-270 anymore But 290-315 is just fine. Getting somebody with the same Power-Speed n Leverage and be 330+ thats Pro-Bowl special stuff.

At this point in a players development, the weight we are talking about is flab. Most of these guys are about as bulky as they are going to get....it isn't like they haven't been lifting weights since middle-school.

They have pretty much maxed out in that department. They can still add strength, but that doesn't translate into much added mass.....just stronger muscles.

The desire for weight is just the simple fact it is harder for anyone to push 320 lbs of lard than it is to push 280 lbs of lean beef.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I have to disagree with you 100 percent on that one. Tuck was still playing very well the last two seasons. Anybody who has taken the time to record the games and study the O-line play can tell you that.

Your right about him not getting better at his age, and he was never a beast. What he was IMO was a very good right tackle, who still has a few more years in the tank (two or three) as either a RT or RG.

Tuck is a good man. As for his disorder... I won't get into that. When he wants it made public then he can do that on his own.

I know bigwillie wasn't being mean what he mentioned Tuck's disorder (and he's far from being alone) but it's always annoyed me when poeple have speculated about Tucker's condition.

How can you blame the offense for HOW LONG the D is on the field? They were
on the field because they weren't good enough to get off of it.

You can blame the offense for not scoring, not converting on 3rd down or poor
performance in the red zone.

It's the job of the D to get off the field and get the ball back in the hands of the
offense. If they can't do that, and they didn't, you can't blame the offense .

I could care less what his disorder is, and wasn't trying to demean him nor his condition in anyway. My point was that he has a condition that has the ability to re-occur. I wasn't belittiling him, but rather stating the obvious that we need to be prepared that this could happen again...............just like somebody coming off of a serious knee surgery.......you need to be prepared that he won't play. The difference with Tuck is unlike a knee surgery his condition has a chance of coming back at anytime without any outside influences.

Again I'm not knocking Tuck just stating the facts, and I wish him the best.

Ehh... if the offense can't consistently sustain drives and/or it frequently turns the ball over you sure can blame the offense. Look, for the most part, any game the Browns were competitve in last season was precisely because the defense was playing pretty well. The problem was that the defense was worn out by the 4th quarter because the offense couldn't STAY on the field.

If our offense was merely OK last season, we would have finished Baltimore and Pittsburgh off at home for at least two more wins. Those losses hurt bad because the defense played very well in both games, but the offense sputtered far too often.

And I would disagree with you 100 percent...lol.....I guess that's why opinions are like [censored]...lol. He hasn't finished either season (which is a concern in itself), and he's lost a step.........and bro he's always been a shade slow. One of the things I have always admired about Tuck is how he worked his butt off to be able to overcome his lack of quickness by using his smarts. People used to cry and moan about the false start penalties, but it never bothered me, because I know what he was doing.........timing the snap to get a little extra jump he needed. Oh and he got good at it to...lol....his penalties went way down..........he times a snap as good as anyone. The problem is he's starting to be too slow even with the timing help. Like I said he needs to be moved to RG, but if LCB comes back there won't be a place for him there either.

It has been reported that his problem wasn't his mental illness, rather a bad reaction to meds he was put on. He said he has dealt with his problem for some time without it interferring with his ability to play ball.

Do we still need to worry? Yes. Not so much because of his meds ( Once new meds are regulated, they tend to work for a while) but rather his age and injury history.

So you know, I have been dealing with mental disorders since high school. I don't think you or anyone else is wrong to bring it up or worry about it affecting his play.

I think that is a double edged sword. The offense couldnt convert, thus the defense is on the field more.

The defense is on the field longer, thus taking opportunities away from the offense.

I dont think you can really place the blame on one side or the other. Until we get a run game and run defense, this is all moot.

To say if we fix the offense the defense will get better, or if we fix the defense the offense will get better is asinine.

Now that doesnt mean I dont think the defense is closer to being a decent unit than the O. I think there are alot less ifs on that side of the ball.

Hope all is well Pdawg, and meant no disrespect to those that suffer mental disorders..........like I said I feel for Tuck, but it's a concern. I didn't know that about the meds, and that makes me feel better about it. Actually, your right the injury history (when was the last season Tuck played a full 16 games??), and the fact that he's getting up there in age is the bigger concern. I hope I'm wrong and he's got 2 years left, but I would feel better if we got a LT and let him and KS fight it out at RT and the loser gets cut (contract and cap reasons).

None taken. I only pointed it out because you seemed hesitant to bring it up. You shouldn't be.

I believe it was during his press confrence where he brought it up. Should still be on the official site.

Cap shouldn't be a problem in the next two years. I would perfer to see if the loser can compete with whoever we draft (hopefully) for the RG spot. If the rookie wins fine. If not we give him some time to be groomed.

RT Tucker says he's recovered, ready to play for Browns
Associated Press
WESTLAKE, Ohio - Cleveland Browns right tackle Ryan Tucker plans to reclaim his starting job now that he has recovered from the mental disorder that sidelined him last season.

"I feel great, man," Tucker said this weekend in his first public comments since he left the Browns in November. "It's a whole new chapter in my life and I'm ready to get on with it. I absolutely plan on coming back and starting for the Browns this season."

Tucker, speaking Saturday during an appearance at a gym in this Cleveland suburb, declined to discuss specifics about his illness.

"A lot of things have changed as far as medications and things like that, and I haven't had any problems," Tucker said. "Everything's been fixed."

The 10-year NFL veteran said he plans to reveal more in the future and hopes to help others who suffer from similar afflictions. When Tucker left the Browns, the team only would say his illness was not related to football and was a common disorder.

Offensive line coach Steve Marshall said he's met with Tucker and expects him to begin working out in offseason programs this week.

"My body's in great shape and I'm really excited to come back and play," said Tucker, who thanked family, friends, teammates, coaches and Browns owner Randy Lerner for supporting him. "I'm more grateful than ever and really looking forward to this season."

Funny thing, I remember saying that same thing to someone else before.

My point is even though the defense has to get itself off the field, having to return after constant 3 and outs does wear them down.

He played well last season. He didn't finish the season but he did play well while he was in there. He also didn't lose a step last season.

We can both agree on that. EXCEPT I think Tuck still has a few years left in the tank, and IF we go LT with our first pick, and IF LCB comes back, Tuck still makes a great backup for the next few years.

Anyone who thinks RT isn't a concern is far off the mark..if Tuck has another reaction or gets dinged up..guess whos' going in...Butler..another o.k run blocker but turnstile in the passing game..
It amazes me how a lot of people in here get blinded and never actually see the weaknesses..
