We are addressing the biggest needs on our team. With that, I can't complain at all. Absolutely love it!

Love it. Do I know the guy? No. Did Heckert realize our problem and address it, or at least to attempt to, yes!

God I hope their scouts are right about this. They seemed to have many better picks available but obviously their scouts thought this guy was better than Massie, Martin and Glenn. My draft site says he is a 3rd rounder.

Guess I agree... I was thinking Massie... but this kid seems to have a TON of experience which means he should be ready to start from day 1... played both sides of the line in a pro-style offense (I think).

That's what ESPN said, Started basically every game. Can play LT and RT.

This is his writeup on NFL.com

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2012/profiles/mitchell-schwartz?id=2532945

Overview

Schwartz is a versatile player who does many things well but doesn't stand out in any one area, and that's likely the rep that will stay with him through the draft. Schwartz is a guy who makes it off effort and smarts. He has decent size for a tackle, and doesn't display strong skills that would encourage a move inside to guard. His size and productivity at Cal will earn him consideration in the fifth or sixth round.
Analysis
Strengths
He can get overpowered in the run game, but Schwartz plays with good technique. He is effective in his pass set and can sit back and let bigger players run into them yet still be effective by walling them off. He is a heady player who takes good angles to blocks and rarely falls off them.
Weaknesses
Schwartz's average athletic ability is the greatest knock on him. He is a bit stiff in his movements and out of his stance, and can struggle when working to the second level. He may need to move inside because of the liability he could be outside at tackle.

Glad we got a good OT. Glad it's a guy who can back up JT if disaster strikes.

That's my initial reaction too ... seeing as how some of the "rated" guys are still available, they must of thought pretty highly of the guy.

That's up next. We can't expect to run the ball or pass the ball with Oneil Cousins at RT. Now we don't have to worry about that.

As for those silly draft sites, that's why they're draft sites and don't work for NFL teams

EDIT: Most draft site content is all regurgitated from other draft sites, it's like a brutal cycle.

I have faith in our scouting staff. As long as they pick the correct positions

I would have got Glenn or Martin. However, the need is filled.

I really feel this is turning into a high risk, high reward style draft. I feel a little uneasy.

I wasn't sure about this draft until now. I love it. This could go down as a major turning point for us.

Anybody whose scouting report talks about what a mauling run blocker he is and that he plays with amazing leverage is a huge positive sign. I think he projects better at RT than Glenn.

you had a good run Hank.

I know nothing about the guy, I'm very pleased that we're addressing the offense heavily and are filling the needs with capable starters.

Now I'm with Candyman, gotta get a receiver.

Don't know a damn thing about him, but the right position was addressed... Didn't miss any games so that sounds durable.. Got some size..

Hope he's the right guy but certainly the right position to fill..

One note in his profile:

IIRC, he was first team all PAC 12 at OT in a conference with Kalil and Martin.

the only thing I saw on him was that he had back surgery. and he looks like he wears knee braces.

I still question if this is a BPA draft. But we needed a right tackle in the worst way.

He had back surgery after his junior year and started all his games his senior year. All college linemen wear knee braces.

Richardson is certainly arguable, but after that, it's hardly BPA.

For some college programs, knee braces are considered part of the uniform for lineman, especially OT's.

hahahaha..."shakes his head"...WTH is wrong with these guys?

Massie, Martin, Glenn....were all better prospects...read the scouting report on this he is a LIABILITY on the outside against edge rushers and he struggles in run blocking...hmmm...can you say "Fresh meat"?

This is nothing more then a "young" John St.Claire....

backup Joe Thomas? are you kiding me!? if this bum has to step in for joe Thomas at any point, I hope your ready to have the #1 overall pick in the 2013 draft and the 1st shot at the "insert QB name of your choice" sweepstakes....

Glenn ? Too damn fat and slow for the outside in the NFL. Looks like a guard.

I'm surprised Schwartz was the choice here vs. Rnd 3... but that's a theme in this draft.

I'm guessing Pinkston wasn't impressed with Massey at Bentley's workouts.

Not sure why Glenn wasn't the pick...

I thought it would have been massie or martin... glenn to me is a guard... martin should be a good RT... Massie is still dropping so there must be something about him that I don't know...

Martin though looks like he's gonna be a good NFLer...

Everyone talking about the better prospects in this draft at OT is laughable. How much tape of each guy have you watched? Have you conducted workouts? Were you ate Senior Bowl?

Glenn is a fat pig. That guy will be an average guard at best. Martin I liked but our guys liked this guy better. They didn't settle this is who they liked. They saw these guys on one so all default to them until the season starts.

Personally everything I've read says this guy is plug and play. He finishes well and wins ugly, but he wins.

These are yahoo's thoughts on Martin:
National Football Post: There is no doubt Martin possesses the size, length and athleticism needed to play tackle in the NFL. However, he struggles with power, can get overwhelmed vs. the bull rush and needs to get stronger to have a chance of starting in the league. NFL ceiling: Average starting tackle. NFL floor: Reserve Left tackle.

Here is what they say about Schwartz:
National Football Post: Schwartz is a tough, nasty kid who loves to get after it in the run game and finish opponents through the whistle. He played left tackle at Cal and will be asked to move to the right side in the NFL. He's a great fit to handle the power side because of his ability to gain leverage, stick through contact and hold the point of attack vs. the pass. NFL ceiling: "Plus" right tackle. NFL floor: Above average swing tackle.

I feel good about the pick.

also most of the pluses on Schwartz is he relied more on effort and smarts than pure talent at the position... I LOVE that.... you have to have some talent, but I love guys who are willing to work.
