Same height, weight and recorded time as Desean Jackson.
Hope he doesn't have the same attitude.

Here is scout's inc. evaluation of the pick:
Travis Benjamin #100:
What he brings: Benjamin is an undersized explosive slot receiver who will never start on the outside, but can also contribute in the return game. He's at his best with the ball in his hands in space.
How he fits: He's a little bit of a curious pick because he's like the guys they already have and they're still looking for that dynamic edge guy who can stretch the field. Benjamin could be effective out of the slot, but they have those guys and he could help in the return game, but they already have Joshua Cribbs. He can add some explosiveness to a passing game that had none in 2011.
I know nothing about the guy - but did they (scouts inc) scout the right guy? Sounds nothing like what I've read about him in this thread.
One question - can he actually catch a football?

Thought their were better WRs on the board but he does have speed which we need and Kiper did give the guy a 5th rnd grade so its not a big reach.

It looks to be at one point the draft board got ahead of the Browns, so now they are going to get their target players by working a round ahead, if that makes any sense.
As long as they are right in their evaluations and some of these guy pan out, I have no real problem reaching at this point.

Does anybody on here actually watch these guys PLAY or just read what other people say ? I don't care if he's 5 ft even... The dude out runs coverage and leaps like a kagaroo. He's tough and has heart. Gosh ..
Amen. btw he also has a 38" vertical. He isn't the big fast receiver I wanted but he can stretch the field. If defenses all try to cheat up on the line like the past couple of years they will get burned.

Does anyone beleive he was best pllayer available?
With 4 picks between 204 and 247 this is the kind of guy they could have there.
Hmm? Worst draft in the afc north?
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I think with our history it is the easiest thing to find nothing but fault as some posters are demonstrating. I see us reaching with several of these picks but outside of Hughes, they are hitting some interesting guys that can fit in to the things they want to do.
How can you not want someone who can stretch the field as opposed to guys who are as fast as linebackers?

2012 NFL Draft: Transcript from conference call with Miami WR Travis Benjamin By Nate Ulrich Published: April 28, 2012 Miami wide receiver Travis Benjamin, whom the Browns drafted 100th overall, conducted a conference call with reporters this afternoon. Here is a transcript: (On utilizing his speed)– “I know my speed and my agility will help me get open on a defender. Because I am so quick and elusive I can run past any defender on the field.” (On his weight and concern about his slender frame)– “My weight is 175. That has nothing to do with it because I have been playing at the University of Miami and week in and week out we played top competition every week in the ACC, SEC and all around. I am used to getting hit.” (On his fastest 40 time)– “My fastest 40 time ever clocked was at a 4.26.” (On if he could be a kick returner)– “Yes, kick returner, punter returner, anywhere they need me, I will be willing to do it.” (On what NFL players he sees himself like)– “Steve Smith, Devin Hester.” (On what he got his degree in)– “Sports administration with a minor in education.” (On if he knew the Browns were targeting him and when he thought he would be picked)– “They were talking to me a lot over the time period of the job process, but I didn’t think it would be this early.” (On when he ran his 4.26 40-yard dash)– “I ran it in the summer time going into my junior year.” (On if he thought he was a first round talent but didn’t have the size)– “I didn’t think I was a first round talent. It’s not my tussle, I can be pick at. Talking to the teams day in and day out they said that they would take me in the fourth, fifth, sixth round, but I never thought when Cleveland was up that they would pick me.” web page

Kind of interesting that this has been a comment from both Hughes and Benjamin.
If nothing else, I suppose the FO must really like these guys.

There are a few fanatics, that do know alot about these guys. The vast majority of the loudest complainers, really didn't much about the players on the Browns last year. Outside of a select few I've not heard of any of these guys,so I can't complain. And I've learned that any idiot with a keyboard can start a site and rank players,so I don't pay much attention to them either.

Theme is the same word I would coin for our Draft. Sense the first selection, but I do like some of the picks. I just thought they could have been on the board later.

Does it strike you odd that almost all the sites have the same players ranked in the same general area? I wonder how much independent thought goes into these sites.

For a person with as short attention span as mine to say I don't pay attention means I really have no clue. What I really do find odd tho,is that Alwaysabrownsfan spells kagaroo without an N.

CBS Instant Analysis on Benjamin http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/blog/rob-rang/18877333/round-four-pick-by-pick-analysis100. Cleveland Brown: WR Travis Benjamin, Miami (Fla.) -- An elite speed guy (4.39) Benjamin is likely too small to be more than an occasional nine-route option. He'll make his money in the return game.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

It's an outside of the box selection (and I think that it has to be at this point in the Draft), because if your looking for a Big #1 WR then your probably going to be disappointed. Complimentary WR's can be Complimentary in different ways. He's job will be to get behind the defense and if we can hit him on some deep balls that will open the short to medium stuff.

Regarding Benjamin, if you can get Dennis Northcutt production from a 4th or 5th round guy, that's a steal. Now I only use Northcutt as an example due to his size and return ability. Benjamin is obviously faster, but if both guys represent 40+ catches and special teams work, you're getting value. We didn't get value from Northcutt because he was a 2nd round pick, but if we get that kind of production with the occasional deep ball from Benji, well, that would be great value.
And let's also state the obvious here...this takes some of the work-load off of Cribbs, who is getting older and showed signs of slowing down last year, due primarily IMHO to the fact he was putting in so much work as a receiver.
If we're going to call this draft a success, we need Benji to pan out.
I'm not going to give any credit to the FO when Richardson makes it. With the #3 pick in the draft, that should be a given. I also believe that we should nail the RT issue. That would actually earn some credit for Heckert as it gets tougher past the top-10 of any draft. The picks of Weeden and some DT nobody had ever heard of before yesterday are gonna be the defining notes of this draft class for us.

And it gets even worse!
Another poor pick! Sure, he's a WR, but there are better players at the position taken that are left on the board.
This is why the Browns suck!
Go root for Buffalo...geesh man
They're a better team and it's half the drive than to Cleveland. Hmm, thanks Phil. I'll think about it.

I thought he would be one of those undersized speedy undrafted types. I don't really mean that in a negative way but usually under 180= undrafted. He is a very intriguing prospect and he brings something our offense lacks and that is big time speed. He is also just as quick as he is fast, that combination is much more rare than most realize.
Now, I saw on espn one of those guys saying he wont go across the middle, well who in their right mind is going to send a 170lb. receiver across the middle with guys like Ray Lewis and Harrison waiting for him. He is our big play deep threat and also a bubble screen guy when we have some of our big blockers like Cribbs and Little out in front.
It is not a bad pick but it is an intriguing pick.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/college_player_scouting_report.html&player=36465An explosive track star who is one of the ACC's top 60-meter sprinters. Possesses a track star build, as he's narrow through the hips and lacks much girth to his frame. However, he possesses an electric first step off the line, gets up to top end speed quickly and has the ability to instantly eat up the cushion. Is a consistent vertical threat who tracks the football well, adjusts to the throw and can go up and make a play when he needs to. Is fluid in the hips as well and exhibits good coordination when running vertical routes. Sells his shoulder fake well, puts his foot in the ground and can accelerate with ease toward daylight. Also, he exhibits some savvy when trying to beat press coverage off the line. Isn't the most physical of receivers, but does a nice job using his suddenness and slight wiggle to get a corner leaning the wrong way and then just explodes past him down the field. Is still developing as a route runner and will glide his way into his inward breaking routes. Can be sharp in and out of his breaks underneath, but will slow his feet before his breaks, allowing defenders to drive on the route. Has the fluidity and footwork to improve and is a hard worker, but needs to become a more consistent route runner. However, to his credit, he has a great feel of getting corners to open up their hips in order to turn and run and snapping off a route under them. Corners are legitimately fearful of his vertical speed and he knows how to get on their hip and then snap the comeback or out route off cleanly adjusting to the throw. Can pluck the football and adjust to ball off his frame and exhibits good balance and hand eye coordination, but at times just loses concentration and will put the ball on the ground. He's dangerous after the catch, is fluid, quick footed and can make a defender miss and out pace them toward daylight. Is one of the better return men in the NCAA and should be able to earn a starter role on special teams in the NFL. Impression: A typical Miami type athlete who has all the tools needed to make plays at the next level. Has a little DeSean Jackson and Titus Young to his game and if he continues to mature could end up playing a similar type role.

I was really hoping we'd get a track guy. It may have been a slight reach on this kid, but it will be nice to have someone that fast lining up occasionally.
