Seriously. Why?
In many cases, calling these kids "student athletes" is a joke of the highest order. Many of the "college students" who enter the NBA couldn't string together a coherent sentence if their lives depended on it.
They made it to college for one reason and one reason only. They can play a sport. Let's not pretend that most of these kids who leave early will ever get a degree. Their degrees are in basketball, and in most cases these are 1 or 2 year programs, with dishonesty at best in play helping keep some of the players eligible to play.
I am horrified when I hear some so called college students speak at an interview or press conference. The closest many of these guys would ever get to college if they didn't play sports is with a broom. Let's not pretend that adding a year to their required college "service" is anything but that. It is a payoff to the college minor league system that feeds the NBA. (and other professional sports leagues)
Besides, somehow recent high school graduates and college age players get along just fine in the tough world of Minor League Baseball.

Well one, they don't have to go to college, they could go play overseas or play in the D-League.
And to your point.
Maybe giving people that need more schooling, more schooling, isn't such a bad thing?
The problem isn't with them going to college, it's with the colleges themselves failing them.

funny you mention MiLB since the idea of letting HS players choose between going into the draft or committing to a certain number of years in college is exactly what baseball does.

I find it ironic that the NFL, which has the shortest career span... Makes people wait the longest to play in their league..
It's almost like they WANT people to be mature physically and mentally to be able to play for them...

I really hate when someone (lets say LeBron James) gets the ball on transition. Gets into the paint, and then just RUNS INTO SOMEONE ELSE, and gets a foul called...
I get that's the rule, but if you are creating the contact, it shouldn't be a foul..
Why this game doesn't matter: Miami can score whenever they want, New York needs everything to go their way to get a 4 point lead.

Battier and Melo are fighting for the ball on one end, Dwayne Wade is standing under his basic on the other end. Who needs to play defense when you can possibly maybe get a transitional basic?

I'm really hoping the Pacers play smart basketball next week.
They've got enough youth to maybe possibly make it interesting...

Griffin came back to play, looked a little weak but he should be fine. Now Paul, a tweaked groin could put him out for Game 6. I would think about sitting him even if he was 75% and letting him rest for Game 7 (if necessary).

MCL sprain for Pierce and a strained rotator cuff for Avery Bradley (starting SG for them). Just 2 more injuries to add to the list (neither will miss a game though they could re-aggravate the injuries).
Rose, Noah, Gibson(playing) - out for the Bulls
Horford(playing) - Hawks
Ray Allen, Pierce, Bradley - all playing for Celtics but nursing injuries

Josh Hamilton and Lebron jealousy is too much to take in one night. 
But on a serious note - the playoffs suck right now other than the Nuggets interesting comeback against the Lakers and Chicago being a wounded duck and the weakest #1 seed in the history of the NBA.
Lakers probably blow out the Nuggets though, I'll be back for the conference finals.

Yeah I didn't really even consider that series, you're right that will be a good one.
Bynum and Gasol better bring the intensity every game though, their tendency to take games off has me leaning toward OKC in 6.

I agree with all of this. Watching Durant, Westbrook and Harden you can just see how bad they want a title.
