He'll just need one, anyway. I'll be disappointed if we don't come out of the Central this year. I mean this is our ultimate window with Pujols/Fielder leaving and the Cubs a couple years away from simply buying and developing a better roster. Hopefully the Brewers end up having a fire-sale at the deadline after non-stop floundering and we can edge out the Cards. I think we need just one more solid bat and I'd feel like we could even have a decent shot of coming out of the NL entirely. This is the best our rotation's been in my (albeit young) lifetime...

Hafner to the DL (right knee), LHP Scott Barnes called up.
With interleague starting up though, he'd only be playing half the time (if that) anyway. Take the time, get it right.

just hoping it doesn't need a cleanup surgery or we're talking post-allstar break.

So much for that. web page CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) -Indians DH Travis Hafner will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus and will likely miss 4-6 weeks, according to Indians head trainer Lonnie Soloff. The Cleveland Indians placed Hafner on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 24th. Hafner is currently hitting .242 (32-132) with 6 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs and 23 RBI in 39 games for Cleveland in 2012. He currently ranks tied for 9th in the American League in walks (26) and 14th in on-base percentage (.380), even though his last game action came on Wednesday, May 23 vs. Detroit. He is beginning his eighth career stint on the Major League Disabled List. The Indians have recalled right-handed pitcher Scott Barnes from Triple-A Columbus to replace Hafner on the roster. Barnes, 24, has spent the entire 2012 season at Triple-A Columbus where he has gone 0-2 with a 3.81 ERA in 11 games, three of which he started. He has pitched 28 1/3 innings, giving up 17 hits, 12 earned runs, 12 walks and striking out 30. After making three starts in April, he was moved to relief in May where he has recorded an ERA of 2.19, giving up five hits, three earned runs, five walks and striking out 13 in 12 1/3 innings pitched. Barnes was acquired by Cleveland from the San Francisco Giants on July 27, 2009 in exchange for INF Ryan Garko. In 2011 Scott went a combined 8-4 with a 3.45 ERA in 17 starts before his season ended on July 10 due to a left knee injury. Barnes will be making his debut at the Major League level wearing #51. The Indians now have six players on the Major League Disabled List (Carlos Carrasco, Grady Sizemore, Rafael Perez, Carlos Santana, Jack Hannahan and Travis Hafner).

well, to be fair anyone who thought we were getting more than 100 games out of Hafner was fooling themselves.
132OPS+ through 39games. if he comes back and plays 50-60 games at that level, then it was a successful year.

We are going to need his bat if we are going to have a chance of scoring 12 runs per game, which is what we need..

This isn't a lack of talent right now, it's stupid baseball. What a pathetic game.

5-3. KC just left them loaded (2 BB's and a HBP), mid 6th.
We just blow so many opportunities due to poor situational baseball. Then we come out and walk people, commit errors, butcher fly balls, etc.

Gawd... Bases loaded, nobody out for KC in the 8th. We're in trouble again. Edit: at least Vinnie kept the damage to one run. 6-3 Royals. Still... Arrrgh!! It's the Royals dammit!!! LOL There... I feel better.

It's like the offense went on the injured list, and the pitching suffered.

let's not leave the offense off the last 2 games. 20 LOB is ridiculous today.
(of course, KC left on 18, so I'm definitely not letting the pitching/defense off the hook either)

Yeah, but we scored decently against the Sox, and we put up 8 runs on Monday. Teams are going to be a bit up and down scoring runs. The pitching has really got me concerned right now.
We've given up 6 today, 8 yesterday, 5 Monday, 12 Sunday, 14 Saturday, and 9 on Friday.
That's a full run through the rotation, and an awful run through the rotation at that. We won't win many games when giving up 5 runs is a really good day .... especially when half the offense is on the injured list.

Battlin' Buccos take 2 of 3 from your Reds... 3 games back. If this team gets at least one more legit bat be it from the minors or a trade, it's gonna be a fun summer - the pitching staff is no joke.
Now on to the house of horrors that is Miller Park.
GO BUCS.
