is there any disadvantage to elective mode? I'm playing a wizard and haven't really looked into advancing the skill trees too much yet.

It's just a little more confusing to use. Standard mode, you have a set number of spell you can use for each keybind. With elective mode, you can put any spell into any keybind, by going into the spell selection screen, and then scrolling through all the spell at the top.

This worked great for my wizard. There are a lot of good passive buffs in the defensive area. I've been tending to use one of two attack spells anyway, so i set all my numberic keybindings to buffs in the same tree, and was able to multiply my damage.

Just beat Diablo last night. The Act 2 and 4 bosses were a pain as a Wizard., since they both had attacks that you couldn't really avoid, and I don't take damage very well as a wizard.

i really like the ability to switch between your followers depending on the situation you are in. sometimes the scoundrel is the best bet, but sometimes i need the templar to draw aggro away from me

I don't like that you can't bring him along with you if you're playing with others. I'm usually in a game with friends, so I'm forced to leave the Templar behind ... and then when I get a game by myself, he's drastically underleveled.

i'll have to check that out...thanks...

all i remember is when i played the wizard in diablo 1 and 2 that i totally owned once i got that real high level spell. Killing diablo was a joke. I just casted a bunch of rings of fire around myself so he couldn't get close and then dropped a ton of wall of fire's basically trapping him....then i watched him fry

gameplay seems different in this one...i just finished act one, and i only almost died once, and i'm charging right into battle.

I never played any of the previous Diablo games, but looking at gameplay footage, it reminds me of X-Men Legends. Is this accurate?

I haven't played XML, but looking at the gameplay on youtube, the game mechanics themselves look very similar. I'm not sure how you gain your "power" in XML, but D3 is very gear driven. You get stronger by getting better stats on your gear (although getting levels helps too) ... you spend a good deal of time re-doing levels just trying to chase down better gear.

D3, just like any diablo game, has infinite replayability. Ive never played Xmen Legends, but I have played Ultimate Alliance 2. Ultimate Alliance2 is somewhat similar, and has some replay ability, but I don't think it scratches the surface of the Diablo franchise

general reply....

i'm not to happy with the gear thus far. I bought this dagger at the very beginning of act 1 and i have yet to find something better. Finally finding some decent armor and upgrading with jewels. I must have gotten real lucky or something. I did have alot of gear that boosted finding magic item chances...so maybe i got real lucky.

playing the wizard and at lv 29. I'm assuming that you get 'hell' mode after beating normal? No way i'm maxed out level wise before i finish this.

That's sort of how Diablo goes. Sometimes you get lucky, usually you get gear with junk stats. Every peice of magic gear gets 2 to 3 random stats, and then some random value for those stats. Every Rare peice gets something like 3-6 random stats. You just have to hope that all those stats are the ones you need, and you actually get good numbers on them.

I've found the auction house is really good for getting geared up. Put "rare" items for your search criteria, put your character level in the max item level section. Put one or two stats that you want to see on your gear (like intellect and vitality). Put a max price like 10,000 or 30,000 ... and then search away. You can usually find some really good upgrades for pretty cheap.

Lots of people get "good" gear that is usually junk for them. Like I'm constantly getting stuff with tons of strength on it, that I can't use. I pop it into the AH, and some lucky Barbarian out there gets a good deal on gear he can use.

You go to "Nightmare" mode after normal. Then Hell after you beat that one. I'm halfway through Nightmare right now, and I'm sitting at level 45.

thanks....i started out training blacksmith, then i got all my stash space filled for the first page. I've been selling stuff, and destroying stuff for the blacksmith.

now i just read that as you play the higher levels the crafting material changes. So i have around 150 of the crafting things i won't be needing more than likely

I'll have to check out the auction house. I haven't messed with it, and i have a ton of rare items that i can't use. I even destroyed some of those to see if you got special crafting stuff....

I don't think i ever died until i stopped using the templar. The scoundrel got me whacked real quick. Been using the enchantress, and its been fine, except one time when i got myself trapped. miss being able to spam potions

Wait till you get to nightmare and hell ... you'll die all the time.

I think the Templar is the way to go. If memory serves me, he gives some sort of protection buff, not to mention is a pretty decent mini-tank. In Nightmare and Hell more, you will want to start trying to get gear that gives you more vitality and protection, in addition to your usual damage stat. I found this out quickly in Nightmare where I could usually two-hit most mobs ... but would die almost instantly if they touched me. A few friends of mine had the same problem until they sacraficed some damage for more vitality/protection. I'm at around 9000 health, and 2500 damage, and I just took down Belial (End of Act II) in a pretty even match. When I beat Diablo in Normal, I was probably 2000 health and 1500 damage.

There's an auction house?

Guess I should pay attention instead of watching TV and swinging my sword.

Yeah, rather than grinding for gear you can just buy things on the auction house. You can usually find decent rare weapons for pretty cheap, sub 10k gold. to be honest, thats the only thing i use to get gear now.

Re Hell mode: Good lord. Nightmare i didn't die that much, 4-5 times tops. Hell mode however, I die at least once per dungeon level.

thanks for the tip on the auction house. i havent used it much, but last night i did some quick searching. i bought rare items for my entire body and weapon and didnt even spend 10,000. I updated my DPS by a factor of 20 and my armor by over 400! i searched for items +dexterity (since i am a monk) and it really was a great experience. thanks for the tip!

No prob. Keep checking though. New stuff goes up every second, and there's usually an amazing buy every minute or so. The one thing to keep in mind though is that the game caches your search, so new stuff doesn't show up as fast/as often. The way you can get around this is to change the buyout price you're using by 1 gold. All the new stuff since your last search will then display properly.

I've made about 500k off of flipping amulets and rings from people who underprice them. The AH can make your D3 life much easier if you put a couple minutes into it a day

Auction House has been awesome for finds. Found a nice weapon on there that was buyout of 90k by 3 sellers, and one at 35k, so I bought the 35k and put it back up for 75k and it sold in 10 mins.

I hit 40 last night and just finished act II on Nightmare when I got kicked from the server about 11:30 last night, so I called it a night.

Been kind of unimpressed with many of the boss fights. I think the best is the Butcher since you have to account for the floor, but really none of them are all that tough.

I did notice the mob levels correlate to players. I can run through and kill things with little problem in my games, but when I join my buddy who is 2 levels higher I have to be much more careful or I will get beat down by the "blue" pack mobs and/or excessive mob groups.

Nothing quite like chasing the loot goblin around and agroing about 4 groups of mobs. It makes it exciting.

I got levl 60 last night on my wizard. I noticed that the weapons you can get once you hit 60 are a lot better than the ones even from level 59. Hell level has been brutal ... probably because I'm a scrawny wizard with no real defense. It's actually been easier for me with a 2nd player, because he can tank a lot better than my merc can.

Wonder how many of you have bought my under-priced stuff? I haven't been bothered to actually research the prices and stuff, so I just dump stuff in there looking for a quick turnaround.

You didn't think the Belial fight was tough? Maybe I've just been undergeared, but that one was brutal the first time I tried it on Normal and Hell. Might just be because I'm a squishy wizard that can't take more than two hits too.

I don't think the other player's level matters, but the mobs do get much stronger the more players you have. And those Blue pack mobs ... or gold packs can get absolutely brutal in Hell mode if they get the wrong combination of bonuses. Teleporting ... Invulnerable minions ... Hard hitting ... yikes.

Yes the Belial fight was tough the first time I tried it solo, but with hired help it was a breeze. It's not that they are tough, they just take awhile.

Honestly I was totally unimpressed with the Diablo fight, having to fight his "shadow" and all that crap.

The spider caves...absolutely hate them....it's just the ugliest, most boring dungeon in the game.

I am curious though, since it appears entrances to all these dungeons lead down....Who does all the digging for these massive underground lairs??

All in all a fun game, just a few things I guess I was hoping for. Particularly more wandering mobs, and less static groups.

Took me 5 tries on Hell as a level 57 monk. I pretty much hate that fight ... You just can't screw up once.

From what I hear, Monks and Barbarians can do the story fights much easier than demon hunters and mages, but mages and demon hunters can do the gold/blue packs easier since they have better kiting abilities and ranged damage.

Trust me ... on some of those blue pack mobs, it doesn't matter what kiting abilities you may think you have.

I can say the Belial fight was much easier on my Barbarian than it was for my demon hunter, although it took longer as he teleported all over and I spent a good amount of time chasing versus smacking.

Chasing? On that fight, he's this big stationary dude in the middle (on the third phase anyway), where the little green circles appear all over and seem to one-hit you even if you're out of the circle. I spent most of the fight running, trying not to get hit ... and then occasionally throwing a beam his way. I'd imagine it would be a bit easier with a Barbarian, as they probably take damage a lot better.

I do find myself wishing I could put one or two more spells on my bar, although that's probably part of the challenge. With a wizard, I have weapon enchant and sparkflint as two spells, which buff my damage considerably. I have Arch as my main "bring the pain" spell, and Magic Missle and Desinegrate as my two main attack spells. But that leaves me switching back and forth between Blizzard for pack mobs, and Teleport for boss fights. It also means I can't use a defensive armor.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

That's probably the best version I've seen. There is several video's out using that audio.

Funny thing is, I know people like that, and remember games that went just like that. Man, video games made all the RPGs so much easier. Although the folks that want to use voice chat in game, bah. I don't want to hear your whiny geek voice coming from a 500lb ogre warrior.
