[color:"red"]A little too much wishful thinking here. Thomas won't to 5, Shaffer won't suddenly become an above-average right tackle, Sowells probably isn't going to be ready nor will a 3rd round rookie, and Steinbach blows up our cap.
There needs to be more realistic predications.
And realitically U can't replace 4-5 linemen in one offseason Toad..and just to write off everyone without seeing them play isn' t realistic...
The better senero is to worry about the interior and if Thomas or another OT is there in draft that is BETTER than Shaffer , grab him.Move him to the right side.
I haven't seen U say what happens if Phil is able to take Thomas.
What does he do with Shaffer?
I'm not asking out of ignorance, I want to see what U think.

I don't need to see Sowells play to understand that 2nd year 4th round players have a horrendous record as bonifide starters in this league. I work based off of what's probably, not what's possible.
I've always viewed Shaffer as a right tackle on this team, not a left tackle. If we're lucky to get Thomas, Shaffer gets moved. If Tucker is still around, sure, try Shaffer at guard, but I don't think it'll work, just like I didn't think trying Thompson at OLB would work. It can't hurt to try. However, if Tucker is done, move Shaffer over there.
Now, why isn't it realistic to replace 4 guys? Reality is that we may not have a choice.
Coleman is a free agent, and I think the odds are long that he's back. Bentley may be done for good. Fraley is a free agent. Druzzi is done as a player. Tucker may be done for good.
We may not have a choice.
I think Roc asked me about Fraley. I'm not very impressed with him, but like I always thought with Faine, if we put a couple of good guards around him his weaknesses can be covered up.
We're going to need 2 new guards and may have to re up with Fraley. That's 3 right there. Adding a 4th wouldn't be difficult.
