I hope that you are right and the Browns aren't that stupid.

That's one hell of a rumor to start though.........isn't it? Jesus.

I´m more and more with you Vers....this is from yesterday evening:

From Fox Sports Radio:
They are reporting a deal is almost done for the Browns to get the # 2 pick from the Lions. They are going to have Pat Kirwan on Chris Meyers show shortly. It sounds like the Lions may be on the way to the double trade down if this deal goes through. The Lions will get an extra pick to move down 1 spot with the Browns.

John Clayton is now saying it is the #3, #36, and a 7th for the #2 pick

First off, this is a rumor that has no backing in link form anywhere, so lets take it as that.

Secondly, Savage would destroy ANY credibility he has gained from us by making a ridiculous move like this. We are not a team that just needs a QB to be a contender. Savage is a big advocate of stock piling draft picks, not trading them. Unless something else is in the works here, I see this as being a completely false rumor.

Maybe Millen and Savage are working together, however that is not good either. 10 minutes in the same room as Millen will make Savage dumber, and we just can't have that.

Not everyone would think less of Savage.. There is a contingent on here that believes that we need to take Russell or Quinn.. Some are insistent that Peterson is the guy.. and others still are saying that Thomas is the one (me among them) and still others that think that Johnson is the best fit. Go figure?

If he moves up to take Thomas, (remember, I'm one of those that want Thomas) I will still think its a dumb move.. As much as I think Thomas is the right choice, I know that we are way more than one player away from being a much better team.

Giving up picks even to get a guy as solid as Thomas, isn't the right way to accomplish getting more quality players on this team..

So if Thomas is gone by the third pick, then take Peterson, or Quinn/Russell, or Johnson or Branch or someone else or TRADE DOWN..

But moving up by giving up picks,,,, nope, that's just dumb in my book.. But not everyone thinks like I do... some get very fixated on a player and no matter what the team has to give up, they want them to do it.. I'm not one of those.

I don't think this will happen, but if it did, I will jump on the "fire Savage" bandwagon.

I can see why Millen would want to do this, but why would Savage play along?

Are you suggesting that Millen went to Savage and told him if he wasn't able to trade down, he would draft Joe? Or, am I misreading your post?

Hell, I hope you are right, but that seems a bit far-fetched.

My hope is that Millen and Savage work together...maybe Savage was forced to play along (Millen saying he drafts Joe, if he can´t move down)....

Why would Savage play along? well if he smokescreens to want a QB and the Raiders most probably take 1 away....whoever wants a QB (HOU, MIN) has to make a better deal than the Browns...the Lions can say: "Hey the Browns give us their 2nd rounder just to drop to 3...give me more"....and the Browns make sure Thomas isn´t picked at 2....that´s my hope at least

SMOKESCREEN. *IF* it happens... we should start the fire Opie petition.

Matt Millen is a moron. I have to believe Phil is baiting him into something.

Its either interesting/convenient or discouraging that this rumor is coming out after the rumor that ownership is pushing us to pick a QB.

If we move up for a QB - I'd be more critical of Lerner than Savage because I think his hand has been forced. Just doesn't sound like a Phil move to me.

To be honest though, IMO, if its anything - its a rumor with a purpose or its just dialogue more then us committing to anything. Its still too early.

Completely against Phil's draft ideology so far. BUT.. I listen to you guys talk about how this guy or that guy is SO good and we are STARVED for a playmaker. A MUST HAVE franchise LT for the next 10 years ? The next PAYTON MANNING ? How bout a future Sanders, LT or OJ sitting there. Yet you guys already talk of firing the guy that would give him to you for the 2nd round pick this year...?

I know.. lets trade down 5 times and get 20 picks this year for a bunch of "decent" players. I'm sick of the average joe on this team, I'm sick of "decent". The last few years there was NO one to even really get excited about because THEY had no excitment. Winslow and Frye with all their mistakes started to give me someone to at least cheer for. Their gut and fire on the field makes the losing bearable. Braylon could be one of those guys too except for the poster boy, selfish attitude. If our management thinks one of these guys is worth the trade.. then I say go get him. And yes... if I'm RANDY and it's my team...I MAKE Phil make the investment for the better player. This team needs an attitude, and FAST.

There are easily 5 players at the top of this draft that could be big-time NFL guys... which is why I think it's STUPID to give up a second round pick (potential starter this year) to move up one damn spot... if we were 7th or 8th then fine... give up a second and late round to try and get in the top five...

but with the 3rd... our options are just too open... If both QBs are gone... fine take JT or Peterson... one QB and JT gone.... then take the other QB or Peterson.... either way at the 3rd spot we still get a potential great player AND are still able to hopfully pick a starter with our second...

Trading up one spot this year would be stupid IMO... it's really the only move that Savage could make that would just royally tick me off.

Joe Thomas is the guy I want as well, but we are not going to get a crappy player if we stay at 3 and Thomas is not there. Giving up multiple picks to move up one spot is ludicrous this season. The top 5 players are going to be NFL stars, and that is a great thing. No matter what happens, we make out with a player that immediately helps this team.

This has got to all be a smokescreen, I just don't see Savage doing this. If Lerner is the one pushing for it, we are in much worse shape than any of us ever imagined.

Yeah........if we trade a 2nd pick to up 1 freakin' spot again Savage is dead to me. I don't like this at all. First we get news that Jr. is pushing for a QB, and then we get a rumor that we are making another stupid trade with the Lions..........bro, if we do this I swear I want Jr. gone too. He needs to keep the crap out of personel moves........period!!!! The guy has been trying to force his way into football ops since he got here..............gives Botch the whole gig...........basically hires RAC for Savage.............almost cans Savage in favor of another football guy wannna be...........now he wants to push for a QB??? I wouldn't mind having Thomas or Quinn.................and guess what one of them will be there, becuase Al Davis is goofball..........don't be stupid enough FO to trade your way out of a good situation............we can't lose for goodness sake!!!

So you guys are OK with passing on the next Pace/Ogden and taking a possible T. Couch/W.Green/B.Edwards type player at 3 to save the 2nd rounder ??

I'm just using this as an example to illistrate my point. How do WE know their are 5 studs waiting to be a Brown. Maybe Phil actually knows MORE than we do ? How is THAT possible ? Maybe he see's one of these players rated twice as high as the others, for this team, right now.. Who was picked after P. Manning ? Wait.. I have to look it up.

Some of us imagined it 2 years ago when Jr. started his crap by making Savage take RAC instead of letting him hire his own guy..........of course we were called negative and conspiracy theory haters.

God I hope this isn't true............can we really by that disfunctional??

ok - what happens if we trade up and get a Couch? Gallery? whatever.... it can go either way... there's always a possiblity that the player will bust...

I trust Savage with his scouting skills... which is why I'd rather have more draft picks... trading up is stupid this year....

Glass half full - half empty.

I don't think the Browns are "LOOKING" to do anything.

I think what was stated was pretty much looking at what we got - Right NOW no knowing if Sowells will emerge. Not knowing who we draft.

But with Steinbach here...we have the Versatility to move him to LT if need be.

With McKinney here we have the Versatility to start him at RG.

Why what do you suggest? Its who we got...its an upgrade. We will not Draft with "URGENT NEED" ...if Sears is the BPA in the 2nd we jump at it and the scenario changes for RG. But with Seth there we don't go and make the Reach Pick. or desperately try to move up and get the RG. Thats all.

We'll see how well he is health wise, this is just a writer looking at our new options with the new upgrades. Worstcase scenario...McKinney is an upgrade on Coleman. That is what he is saying..
All of a sudden this guy is the Voice of Savage? No need for all the its time for rejoicing afterall we are UNDEFEATED!!!

I remember that. It was widely reported that Savage was going along with the Crennel hiring more than agreeing with it. I believe Savage wanted Nolan, who is the one I wanted as well.

That is now water under the bridge, so we move on. If this owner making decisions thing is rearing its ugly head again in the form of draft picks, then yes, we can be that dysfunctional.

I am holding on to my optimistic point of view for now. Until someone from the Browns organization is quoted as saying something to this regard I will treat it as writers just making stuff up to keep people interested.

It could be a rumor started by the Lions to give the impression that anyone moving up has to jump us.

We not necessarrily playing along, just not denying it as it could benefit us for others to think they have to deal with us at #2.

No, first off..Nobody knows if Thomas would be the next great Pace/Ogden or the next Gallery. Second...Any of the remaining players at the 3rd pick will be better then Green/Edwards/Couch IMO

I have a player I would rather see the Browns get. But I would be happy with top 4 talents in this draft. So giving up a chance to grab a Sean Jones, Reggie McNeil or Dqwell Jackson type player in the second round makes no sense.

Its a rumor anyway but if it did happen, I would feel that Savage was pressured into making the pick by Lerner with visions of selling Quinn jerseys.

Good Lord I hope our FO isn't that fricken stupid. We can't afford to [censored] away a 2nd-round pick to move up one spot. Thank goodness its early and Clayton is likely parroting the typical pre-draft BS. I hope...

Savage has said that he likes to cherish each of his picks and he doesn't like to trade them away. Trading up is a bad idea IMO. We've got too many needs which could be addressed with that 2nd round pick like D-Line, O-Line, RB, OLB. Sorry but i don't buy this at all.

I've never been a fan of trading up in the draft unless there is a guy that you really really want. I just don't see it happening. Unless we're trading up just to trade down.......

If we traded up for Thomas and Thomas only then I would be semi mad. Glad we got our LT upset cause we gave away a pick to do it.....

With that being said I would rather Have Quinn/Russell, Johnson, or Peterson than Thomas and no 2nd or 7th

I agree for the most part.

There are a lot of variables to consider here.

Personally, I'm hoping for Thomas or trade down (don't want Russell, Quinn, Johnson or Peterson if we can reasonably avoid it).

Moving up for Thomas as an alternative to taking one of those other players would still upset me, though. I'd have to assume that the trade down offers just weren't there.

Moving up to take anything other than a LT, though, to me would indicate an ownership forced move. QB/RB are just too risky to justify that type of move and we simply need too much help to invest so much in one pick.

Still betting on a smoke screen, but Lerner is a walking contradiction (what you hear from him vs what you read about him). Nothing would surprise me at this point.

OFFENSIVE LINE: Assuming Steinbach and McKinney start at the guard spots, the line will be significantly better. Joe Andruzzi and Cosey Coleman, last season’s starting tandem, might have been the worst duo in the NFL. Coleman is headed elsewhere, while Andruzzi could remain as a backup or be waived.

It was horrible...not much else to say..

The feeling within the organization seems to be that the $49.5 million contract given Steinbach is expensive for a guard. Steinbach has the athleticism needed to make the move to left tackle. That could happen in the not-too-distant future, which would put his contract more in line with the position he plays.

Practically all the guards and mainly the ones who are ..ahem...lower tier ..got PAID..
I'd like to know who else these ones within woulda signed?
Ehhh this doesn't bother me too much..I doubt if they play ES at OT..HE'S A GUARD...

Look for the Browns to target at least one offensive lineman in the draft.
No I think it'll be two linemen...
DEFENSIVE LINE: This area was a mess at the end of last season. The additions of the Robaire Smith and Shaun Smith, who was a restricted free agent, can only help.

It is no longer a mess..we have a solid DE to play .. and a true NT behind Ted..they don't have to be big name guys...

SECONDARY: With the number of injuries that devastated the cornerback corps last season, the Browns felt a need to add depth to the back end. The hope is that DeMario Minter, a fifth-round draft pick last year who missed the entire season with a knee problem, will step in as a reserve. Wright will contend for the fourth spot.

Adding a quality cornerback is a major need and could be addressed early in the draft. Adding a couple picks in a trade down in the first round would allow the Browns to target Michigan’s Leon Hall in the first round or perhaps go after someone like Texas’ Aaron Ross with an extra pick in the second round.

THis is for everyone thinking Minter is going to be a starter..not a chance and not this year..Opie is going to target a CORNER in the draft to be a challenger opposite Bodden..this is looking more like a reality..

Yeah I'll believe it when I see it..if true there better be some other things happening or else..
I think Detroit is leaking this out to make someone jump up..I cannot see Phil letting the Lions just pick us clean to move up one spot for a QB..no freaking way..

I definitely agree with this. I mean, I really want Thomas, but we're not at the point where we can afford to give up Day 1 picks to move up one spot and pick up one specific player. It is a good year to be sitting at #3 because ,any way you slice it, we're going to have a crack at a good football player or trading down to accumulate more picks. Either way, we help ourselves.

Let's not jump to conclusions.

Savage may love either of the QB's, and the reality is that he isn't backing Frye the way one would back his franchise QB. We could easily take a QB with Lerner having absolutely nothing to do with it.

Mourg the trade makes sense IF He is targeting JMR. Maybe he's setting it up b/c he thinks the Raiders MIGHT grab Johnson. Then the #2 is HUGE IF (big IF) you are targeting Russel (which I think he might do) as he's been evalutating this kid for YEARS. I agree with Toad (I think it was you) that said we wouldn't move up for Thomas as he should be there at 3. I still think he knows what he's doing, and if we did pull that trigger I'd be fine with it. I keep hearing that a franchise QB shouldn't be passed on (from the BQ fans.)

i think if he was really targeting russell, you wouldn't have heard a peep about the 14 year old in his football camp. this is something he knows too well the media loves to read into and run with. the only two you haven't heard much about at all is the LT and WR.

Savage may love either of the QB's, and the reality is that he isn't backing Frye the way one would back his franchise QB. We could easily take a QB with Lerner having absolutely nothing to do with it.

I agree. It isn't like the team is going out of the way to back Charlie.

Bottom line is this......if Savage has one(a qb) targeted as his guy, a guy he thinks will be a true NFL star....he should trade up.

Give up our 2nd this year....maybe even a pick next year.

We aren't going to win without a qb. It is going to take the next qb a while to fit in anyway.

We have a defense that can be competitive and no matter what we do, we probably aren't looking at more than 7-8 wins anyway.....big deal.

It's all smoke screens peen,.. for all you know, they could be laying low on comments regarding Charlie to lend credence to the rumor that they are being forced to draft a QB..

It's not like you can believe anything that is said or implied at this time of year.

I think you guys put too much stock into smoke screens.

You want a smoke screen.....just come out and tell people what you intend to do.

He very well may be in love with one of these QB's. There's no way of really saying for sure which direction he's looking. But his "support of Frye" comment seems like it could lead in another direction. Once again,we have no clue to his thinking either, but we can all guess!

I think in order to be shrude, one knows the last week of the NFL season what order the draft is going to be. Well, give or take a heads or tails. So IF YOU KNEW you were drafting at the #3 or #4 position? And you KNEW there would be at least one or two QB's that would be rated high?

Would you publicly speak out that you didn't NEED a QB,because you already had your franchise QB? Does that sound like sound strategy in your opinion? I think that might be tipping your hand a bit, wheather you wanted a QB or not wouldn't it?

Now I can't say that he won't draft a QB in round 1,who knows? But I don't really consider his "public" non commital to Charley. The draft should clear that up for us. Or,who knows,a FA may be brought in to compete. But I don't think they'll publicly endorse Charlie untill well after the draft "if" that's the direction they're planning to persuse. But before the draft? I don't think that would be prudent.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Moving up to take anything other than a LT, though, to me would indicate an ownership forced move. QB/RB are just too risky to justify that type of move and we simply need too much help to invest so much in one pick.

Let's not jump to conclusions.

I'll avoid the obvious rebuttal here.

Are you serious? Tell me there was a joke hidden in there somewhere. We're trying to work trade down offers from #3 and you're reading into Phil not publically backing Frye 100%.

Sorry - but now THAT's funny.
