YTown. So We all know your hatred of McCoy. It's well documented. The question I now pose is are you defending Mo as a legit #2 WR? Looking at his body of work do you really feel we don't need to replace him? Are you not willing to admit his faults (which are many)?
I'm not saying that Massaquoi is a perfect receiver. I'm not saying he's trash. What I am saying is that we don't know.
The front office seems to think that he was generally in the right position, and open last year. Does that mean every play? No. Does it mean that they saw enough that they weren't desperate to replace him? Yes.
Looking back to 2010, when we had QB Carousel running, let's look at how Massaquoi did:
Game 1: Delhomme 2-46 Game 5: Delhomme/Wallace 5-55 Game 11: Delhomme 4-52 Game 12: Delhomme 4-81 Game 13: Delhomme 3-43
So with Delhomme at QB, Massaquoi caught 18 passes for 277 yards. (5 games)
Game 2: Wallace 1-9 Game 3: Wallace 0 Game 4: Wallace 1-5
With Wallace at QB, Massaquoi caught 2 passes for 14 yards. (3 games)
Game 6: McCoy 0-0 Game 7: McCoy (Massaquoi did not play) Game 8: McCoy 4-58 Game 9: McCoy 2-8 Game 10: McCoy 4-51 Game 14: McCoy 1-11 Game 15: McCoy 2-14 Game 16: McCoy 3-50
With McCoy at QB, Massaquoi caught 16 passes for 192 yards. (6 games, plus a partial where ie was injured, plus one he sat out injured)
When was Massaquoi most effective? I would say that he was most effective when he had a QB who would throw the ball down the field to him. That QB was Delhomme.
Does a QB make a difference to a WR? I think so.
One last thing ..... I don't hate McCoy. I think that he has done a lot of admirable things, and no one can question his desire and work ethic. If those things were enough, he'd be a superstar. Unfortunately, he is lacking in too many other areas, and even the greatest desire and work ethic won't overcome his flaws.

I like how in an incredibly small sample size, how the difference between 15yds/catch and 12yds/catch with roughly the same number of catches means it's all Colts fault

In one less game, Massaquoi caught 2 more passes for 85 more yards than he did in 6 games with McCoy.
The sample size is what it is. It's hard to change it when that's all we have.

While you both might not want me jumping in....I agree with your assessment Ytown.
I suppose it could be other factors between Delhomme and McCoy....maybe Delhomme knew what MoMass liked and kept feeding him balls that fit his strengths. Maybe being a vet, Delhomme knew that from experience. So McCoy's inability to utilize MoMass wasn't his fault, just lack of experience. Or maybe, McCoy was just that ineffective.
I think it was Delhomme knowing how to keep MoMass in the game. I would bet MoMass didn't really want to go over the middle any more after McCoy left him out to dry versus Harrison too. But that's an internal matter that's my speculation.

I think it was because Jake looked to through to the wide outs more. If he didn't play injured I wonder how good the receiver numbers would have differed.

And Delhomme also said that he talked to McCoy during and after the games, and told him that the receivers were open, and that he needed to throw to them.

Personally... I think if Aaron Rodgers had been throwing to them, the numbers would be at least TWICE what they are. Lets let Weeden work with them a year before we cast them all down with the Sodomites.

I would argue more than a year since Weeden will be a rookie. I think I'll definitely look for improvement though.
However, I don't think we should preclude from drafting a top WR in the next draft.

Norwood will be the player that comes out of no where this camp. He will be our Wes Welker!
