Of course not. That wouldn't carry forward a political narrative that certain people want to try to create that it's only "evil Republicans" who want to stop gays from marrying. I challenge anyone to go into most inner city Black Churches and ask them if you can have their congregation sign a petition legalizing gay marriage. Lemme know how that works out
I can't speak for everyone, but I'm against anyone who has backwards or misguided views.
I don't care if it's a guy who owns a sandwich chain or a member of a black church.
I don't hate them. I feel sorry for them more than anything.
I feel the same way about folks who were opposed to interracial marriages or civil rights for blacks ... the majority weren't evil ... they were just too misguided to know any better.

I also have a problem with the other side going out of their way to show support for someone's personal belief in this issue. If the owner of Burger King revealed he was anti-abortion, I wouldn't feel more inclined to go to Burger King.
I think the support was geared more to oppose the hypocrisy of the boycott (claiming to oppose intolerance by being intolerant) than it was to support his actual beliefs.

Romans. Next
You're referring to 1:26 where using the NIV version it's stated Quote:
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.
As good ole Wikipedia points out
Quote:
However, it says in verse 27, "In the same way...", which is a comparative phrase, meaning that the women in verse 26 practiced unnatural relations in the same way that the men in verse 27 did, through homosexuality. This passage is also debated, both in terms of its relevance today and in terms of its actual prohibition.[14] Most Christian denominations maintain that this verse is a complete prohibition of all forms of homosexuality.[15][16][17][18][19] However, some contend the passage is not a blanket condemnation of homosexuality at all,[20][21][22] and some argue that Paul's writings must be considered fallible because of his support for slavery and the oppression of women.[23][24][25][26][27]
A more recent interpretation of Romans 1:26-27 has also been explored as well. In Romans 1:26 it starts out saying, "For this reason, God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women (Romans 1:26-27b)." This passage is talking about heterosexually-oriented men and women, who "gave up," and "exchanged [their] natural [sexually-oriented] relations" just to self-satisfy, and vent their sexual pressure to the closest, and easiest people around; their own gender. So basically these heterosexually-oriented men just "gave up," and the heterosexually-oriented women finally decided to "exchange" what seemed natural and just basically said, "Let's have sex," without exercising faith in a loving God who would bring them one man and one woman that they could honorably marry. "God gave them up to dishonorable passions," because these people should have had faith in God that He would bring a wife or a husband to them so that they could "take a wife for himself in holiness and honor (1 Thessalonians 4:4, RSV)." So the righteous and honorable thing for these heterosexual men and women would be to do is to exercise faith that God would bring wives and husbands to them; but these men and women, claiming to be wise, became fools by venting their sexual frustrations on their fellow heterosexual men and women.

Now if you want a more reliable source, check out the cited sources from that passage that discuss the translation controversy.
Since we're on the New Testament, do you agree with Titus 2:9 Quote:

By all accounts, the owner of CFA tries to live in a Christian manner. I certainly don't have anything against someone who closes his restaurants on Sundays, (other than the fact that I, inevitably, wind up with a hunger for on on Sundays) lives in marriage with his wife for his entire life, uses his money to help others, and so on.
Is he perfect? Almost certainly not. There was only one perfect human being in our entire history.
Ironic that he was crucified.
As far as the Old testament, Hebrews addresses that to an extent.
Hebrews 8 American Standard Version (ASV) 8 Now in the things which we are saying the chief point is this: We have such a high priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
2 a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.
3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is necessary that this high priest also have somewhat to offer.
4 Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, seeing there are those who offer the gifts according to the law;
5 who serve that which is a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, even as Moses is warned of God when he is about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern that was showed thee in the mount.
6 But now hath he obtained a ministry the more excellent, by so much as he is also the mediator of a better covenant, which hath been enacted upon better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then would no place have been sought for a second.
8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, That I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah;
9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers In the day that I took them by the hand to lead them forth out of the land of Egypt; For they continued not in my covenant, And I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, And on their heart also will I write them: And I will be to them a God, And they shall be to me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his fellow-citizen, And every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: For all shall know me, From the least to the greatest of them.
12 For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And their sins will I remember no more.
13 In that he saith, A new covenant he hath made the first old. But that which is becoming old and waxeth aged is nigh unto vanishing away.
Other verses include:
Romans 6 14: Ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Romans 7:4, 6 Ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ .... We are delivered from the law, that being dead.
Romans 10:4 Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law.
Galatians 3:24-25 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Galatians 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Jesus also taught that we should live in a moral way, but that our sins would be removed from us, and not be binding upon us if we believe in Him.
I do not pretend to know what effect this has upon things such as gay relationships. That is not for me to judge. However, I do believe that tradition and religious sacraments have a place of high importance in the lives of many people, and they should not be changed because they do not suit a particular group of people. I have no problem with civil unions. This would be a new classification for a new type of union. It seems like a perfectly reasonable course of action to me. However, people on the extremes of both sides push the limits to scare people in the middle, and we get bad laws like that in Ohio. We could have a perfectly acceptable creation of a new category of union that goes beyond that of traditional marriage. Instead we have fights that accomplish nothing.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

I would point out that slavery had a different meaning in the days of Jesus.
In Rome, a slave could be an indentured servant for a period of time to pay off a debt, or other such arrangement. It wasn't necessarily what we think of as African slavery.

Fair enough. I guess I just think the best approach to dealing with hypocrisy is just to keep doing things the way I do them.

That's actually a great point and one I meant to make eventually lol. The Bible, a 2000 year old document, involves second and third hand accounts of men (some of whom were not even alive when Jesus was), standardized over 300 years after Jesus' death, written in Koine Greek (a language which essentially died out in the 4th c. AD, that was then used as the basis of Medival Greek, followed by Modern Greek, then translated into other languages - one of which was English. Now in all that, we're to understand that nothing got lost in translation?
I am Christian and look to the Bible for guidance, not literal instructions in what to do. However, the simple rule always remains "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets".
Regardless of ALL THAT, the only reason against same-sex marriage is a religious view. It is for this reason, that even if the Bible said in bold letters "NO GAY MARRIAGE EVER" that it still wouldn't matter since we are a nation founded on the basis principle of laws..not religion.

However marriage is an institution deeply ingrained with religious tradition.
Frankly, I see this whole gay marriage debate largely as another attempt to marginalize religion and religious beliefs. If the primary concern was for gay people to be able to live together in a legally binding institution that resembles marriage, then this would probably be a settled issue in more parts of the country. However, because it has to be called marriage, changing the meaning of the word to something it has never meant before, a legal arrangement such as civil unions has been blocked in many states by public vote.

How could it not matter in regards to your Christian faith? As for every thing you said about the vs in Romans. Your translation of the vs was harder to understand than the Bible itself.
This next statement I'm making is for those that believe there is a God, there is no reason to argue about it with someone that doesn't believe in God. Do you think God is against murder. How about stealing, adultery, lust, divorce, drunkenness, you get the point I'm trying to make. Honestly what do you think he thinks about Gay marriage. If you had to guess what side do you think he would take. I could be wrong but if you had to pick one what do you think he would say. Now of course we are not to judge but disagreeing with the lifestyle is not judging. If you read the bible it says many places not to condone the actions of willful sinners in your congregations and it doesn't say in the future times will change and no longer will it matter

J/C http://bible.us/Matt7.21.NKJV “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ I have always wondered what people think Jesus is talking about here. WHO is Jesus talking about. I have my opinions but what does all the other people think that are Christians.

I guess I"m a product of my parents teaching (as we all probably are to an extent)
I was brought up to accept people for who or what they are. I don't want things shoved down my throat, I don't want to hear, you MUST accept something because we say so.. I haven't really got a problem with Gay, Lesbian, interracial life styles. to each his own.
For me, I don't even think it's tolerance for those lifestyles. It's more like "it's none of my business" and I don't think I should have a say with who loves who? I also don't think any government entity should either.
I don't believe I'm alone in that thinking.
Where I draw a line is when someones sexual preferences impact my life in some negative way. (I'm not sure exactly what it would take for it to impact my life)
I'm 60 years old, so far, that hasn't happened. I have doubt it ever will at this point.
I'm really big on the live and let live theme of life.
Having said all that, I don't suppose I'll ever really understand why a guy would want to be with a guy. I don't get the attraction, don't understand it, but like I said, it's none of my business. If they feel fulfilled, I'm happy for them

I don't have a problem with it either to the point I'm going to protest against it. I just won't support it with my vote and I will vote to keep someone out of office that supports it. Same with abortion or any other liberal view. The thing that ruffles my feathers is when this opinion somehow makes me a bigot. Or when I'm asked how is it that two men getting married effects my life in anyway. To answer it, it doesn't but it goes against what I believe in my Christian faith. I believe I am expected not to support it. Now does that mean I'm judging, No I'm not. The same way as if someone would murder someone we all agree that is wrong. We aren't judging them for believing that. Obviously we don't all agree that being gay is wrong but as I said earlier. What do you really think God thinks. If there is a God isn't it it Obvious he expects men to be with women since he speaks of it that way in the Bible.

It doesn't make you a bigot. If you were to treat gays bad because of your personal views, that'd be bigotry.
I support gay rights and gay marriage, but I respect 100% people who oppose them. It's their own view. You won't see any disrespectful memes on my facebook timeline from me.
I see a ton of bigotry all the time on facebook, the funny thing is it's from people who hate religion and people who oppose people who are against gay marriage. It seems like they are the absolute worst.
There's a guy on my facebook that posts ridiculous comments and memes every single day about how laughable religion is, and goes off on people who have their own religious views (and aren't broadcasting them everywhere)
Me? I have my own beliefs, but always respect everyone else's beliefs.

I believe in God and have a personal relationship with Him. I do not believe it's a sin. I also don't believe in your translation or interpretation of the Bible from the things I've seen you write. The point of that is not to argue with you about it, it's futile. But, to point out that even those who believe in God do not share all the same beliefs....and people shouldn't have to live by your's just because the majority of people might believe that way.

I don't support being gay but I don't hate or even dislike gay people. If they want to be gay, okay then it doesn't bother me. Heck not to long ago minorities were not allowed to be married. I feel they should be entitled to the same rights as other people. This is a major thing I disagree with my church on. Sometimes I feel like we're going to become westborough baptist and start protesting gay people's funerals. I believe in practicing love and compassion for others.

Before I start, I have to make very clear that I disagree with the CEO's statements....I do however believe that marriage is a religous term and much of this issue is based on making it a legal term. and on the legal avenue...I don't have any issue with GLBT unions. However...in the religous avenue. I believe that should be between the individuals and their specific religion. and just because one religion would allow it...do not expect other religions to condone or or even acknowledge a marriage between to people regardless of their sexes. So now that I have stated my feelings on the matter I am taking a complete abstract view to a particular point in the argument and I hope we can focus on the point I am trying to make (which has more to do with taboos and not specifically this issue) and not make leaps of judgement on what my feeling on this issue are....

I feel the same way about folks who were opposed to interracial marriages or civil rights for blacks ... the majority weren't evil ... they were just too misguided to know any better.
OK...but who is to say that they are "backwards" or "misguided"....YOU???? I mean society has voted that they don't want gay marriage....so that seems to back him.... does that make you backwards and misguided???
The point I am trying to make is WHO DRAWS THE LINE??? I mean if homosexuality is acceptable...then why not pedophilia or beastiality or numerous other taboos....where is the line drawn and why and WHO gets to make that decision????
To me...lately...it seems like the only time our 1st ammendment rights are defended...the only time we are allowed to have a differing opinion.....is if it is "politically correct".....
You know...I am not going to Chick Fil A to "support" this guy....I will not "boycott" his chain in defiance. I will go to get a sandwich about as often as I did before...which is once in a while...The man's company does not discriminate in his hiring practices nor his serving practices. And his is free to have his opinion...
If you feel strongly against his opinion...then don't eat there....don't work there....no one is forcing you to....just as no one is forcing you to attend GLTB bars and establishments. But I don't think it is right to try to destroy the man's business...nor as some cities have opined to do...deny him franchises in their cities...over this....in fact, I believe it is illegal....
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...
What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????

it is illegal, although they will find some ridiculous "legitimate" reason for denial. But in the end I'm sure if he wants to build in Chicago, his lawyers could damn near bankrupt the city in legal fees fighting it until they cave.

Please fill free if you like, what have I posted that makes you think my interpretation is wrong. What have I said? Am I being to literal for your taste. I'm not trying to force my beliefs on anyone. I just am not afraid to give my opinion. Did Paul have a problem giving his opinion. Not that I'm comparing myself to Paul but he did kill Christians so he came from a unusual background. Anyway I gotta ask and I hope you answer this question but how can you honestly think homosexuallity is not a sin!?

Majority opinion has never been synonymous with being correct.
There was a time when the majority felt that blacks were inferior and needed to be considered separate from the rest of the public. That didn't mean they weren't backwards or misguided.

I'm not sure what prevents them from realizing we can NOT understand their sexual orientation, NOT condone it taught at school as a perfectly normal alternative, NOT enjoy them parading around semi nude and yet still accept them as fellow human beings, care about them and love them as friends and family. I believe that's most folks thoughts.
I don't understand you either and probably wouldn't like a number of things you do, but I also don't want to tell you how you should live.
I don't support the militant gay movement. I believe like all extreme movements they give the whole a bad name.
I know gays that are embarassed by some of the parades and displays of protest. They really want to be just good neighbors and friends and are indeed that. Every few weeks I have dinner with a gay male couple. I've told them the same as I wrote above. I don't understand it, I cant wrap my head around the attraction. I'm a hetero male! How can I?! But, I don't have to to realize what their friendship means to me! How much I appreciate what they bring to my life. I love them like brothers!
Because I have a problem grasping the whole lifestyle does not change my prospective on the people in said lifestyle. I owe them all the respects I'd give anyone else.
Maybe some of the crusaders we have on here STILL have an issue with my statements. Tough! As long as those in my life understand me is fine!

OK...but who is to say that they are "backwards" or "misguided"....YOU???? I mean society has voted that they don't want gay marriage....so that seems to back him.... does that make you backwards and misguided???
Majority opinion has never been synonymous with being correct.
There was a time when the majority felt that blacks were inferior and needed to be considered separate from the rest of the public. That didn't mean they weren't backwards or misguided.
That's fine...so WHO then?????...the point is...just because YOU think him to be "backward and misguided"......It doesn't mean he is....GET OVER YOURSELF!!!!!!!
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...
What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????

Let me pose a question: White man and a Black man apply for the same job in a company with 100 employees. 95 white to 5 black employed at the company. Who will get the job? Anyone feel free to answer. I want to make a point.

In an honest company looking for the best candidate they pick the person who has the best credentials, best fits the persona and ideals of the company, and best displays a true desire to not only work for said company, but also the desire to see said company succeed.
And since you said apply, not interview, and usually the person reading the apps is not the person who gave out or received the app when brought in, and to my knowledge application do not have a race on it, so the person reading them would have no clue of the skin color even if it did matter.

Obviously the white guy, right? Because the owner clearly prefers white employees, hence the disparity in the employee base? And just like this business owner clearly prefers white people as illustrated, God clearly prefers heterosexuals to homosexuals, because there are way more straight folks than gays?

Every application I ever filled out ask your race. If you are not aware companies are required to hire minorities

How could it not matter in regards to your Christian faith? As for every thing you said about the vs in Romans. Your translation of the vs was harder to understand than the Bible itself.
Because other people being gay doesn't affect my life whatsoever. Stopping gay people from getting married doesn't stop them from being gay so I've never understood what people who think homosexuality is a sin are trying to accomplish with barring gay marriage. Furthermore, I can separate religious beliefs with practicality. If the US ever becomes majority-Muslim (it is the fastest growing religion in the world), should we implement laws based on the Koran? I believe religion to be a private thing - this is a product of having atheists, Muslims, Catholics, and Orthodox Christians within my immediate family (siblings, parents, grandparents) and that my religious beliefs shouldn't trump other people's freedoms.

Majority opinion has never been synonymous with being incorrect either.. and sometimes you seem to enjoy playing like it is. Just like you seem to think that any idea, if it's old, must be incorrect, because surely we know better now than we did then...

I'll take that as sarcasm. Any how the point I'm trying to make is since the Black guy would get the job, and yes the black guy will get the job regardless of the smart remarks to the question.
This is racism to the white man. Honestly who on this board can honestly tell me we don't have a current president due to a whole lot of blacks voting for the black man. Example # 1(Colon Powell R.) voting for the best man for the job.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME.... Now I on the other hand voted against him because I didn't like his liberal views. I always said I would've voted for Colon Powell had he run. Key word, would have until he showed his true colors and I don't mean black.

So then what your really saying is that thanks to the government, the minority will get hired regardless of his ability to do the job, just so they don't get fined for not meeting a quota.

I don't support the Westboro Baptist Church. Extremists are in every faction. What's the point?

You have gay friends. You must be quite enlightened.

Obama got the same percentage of black votes as any other Democratic candidate did in recent history(+/- 3%). He essentially won across all demographics link so I'm not sure exactly what point you're trying to make other than making pseudo-racist remarks?
