voice calls are better if its something where tone and inflection matter. Like if I want somebody to KNOW that I'm upset... hearing my voice is far more effective than seeing a frowny face at the end of a text.. the upside to text is that it's a permanent record. I've used it with my wife many times... "No honey, see this is exactly what you said....." I mean I still lose the argument but at least I know I was right.

I have texted just because I knew the person was in a noisy location and talking on the phone would have been futile. 
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Text your wife at a party or restaurant with a big group, assuming she's there with you of course, and say that she's looks really good tonight or how much you can't wait to get home with her.
That's one text every guy should send. It's worth the $.10 (or whatever you pay).

Texting is perfect for responding and communicating with people who just won't shut up once you get them on the phone (father-in-law).
Also, it's nice to communicate with people while I'm in a meeting where I don't participate actively. Say, for instance, somebody else is giving a presentation that has nothing to do with me, but I'm up next. It's nice to be able to shoot a quick text to either respond to someone or to ask a quick question I might need answered before I present. That way, you don't have to step out of the room.

 Did it this summer, at the ball park. (actually, I do it more than just once a year), but, I'm up in the booth at the ball park, doing the scoreboard.........generally, my wife and I hang out behind the catcher/backstop............and I'm up in the booth.....just couldn't help myself. So I texted "girl, that's looking pretty fine from up here." Her reply? "Shut up". Edit to say "oh, and it didn't cost me. I have unlimited texting".........for some stupid reason. I send about 10 a month......

Well, forgive me....I've had a phone through my work for about 4+ years. So I have no idea what rates are these days for calls, data plans or text messages.
Back in April or May, I pilled up 42 minutes of talk time but 400+ text messages. I don't like talking on the phone.

that long? Lol, Yeah you don't want to know, it's went up a little bit but it's not ridiculous yet. I just hope the rates stay in the $80 per month range. That's about what I pay a month with Sprint.
It's worth it to me since I crush the data.
4 minutes used, and 109 texts since 8/4

I don't ever text when it's something important. I'll call.
Texts, for me, are good when you want to talk to someone, but you don't really want to take out a 30 minute (or whatever) time period to 'just talk' to someone.
If I'm texting, I can carry on a conversation with someone, while I'm doing other things.

I never text when driving either, I don't have any crazies on my contact list that will call me if I don't respond immediately. If they did they would be deleted.
That is the beauty of texting, you send your message when you have time and at your convenience.

I've said this before but those that think cell phones are useless or not as necessary as some may think are also the ones that waste the most time on here. So what I'm trying to say is to each his own. And yes texting while driving is stupid. Have done it at traffic lights.

No texting, no making phone calls, and no outgoing calls while I am driving, and one of these days I am going to slap somebody upside the head when I see them doing it.

Now this is one of the things I just can not stand, and will always be driving 10 miles below speed limit. Why do they have to look at them
