I'd really think that Richmond or Raleigh (in particular Raleigh) would be better candidates if the Kings moved East. But really, with teams already in Charlotte and DC along with all the major college bball programs, I don't see how another NBA team could thrive in that area.
Depends on where you put it. VA Beach is the farthest point east in the Tidewater region... if you centered it closer to Norfolk it would be better and it could draw from Va Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton Roads, it would also be 20 minutes closer to Richmond and would avoid making people go through the worst of the areas traffic... which is getting TO Virginia Beach.. the region is home to almost 2 million people.. about the same as the Raleigh area. It would also be the only game in town other than some minor league hockey. In Raleigh it would be competing with the Hurricanes, who do ok... then NCSU, UNC, and Duke basketball.... it would lose.
And knowing the region, people in Richmond would gravitate to a Va Beach basketball team LONG before they went to DC...
I'm not sure whether you consider it a plus or a minus.. but the Va Beach/Tidewater region is home to hundreds of thousands of military personnel... many of them guys, many of them single, many of them with disposable income, many of them sports fans... yes most of them are transplants from somewhere else and probably already have a favorite team, but I bet they would support the heck out of an NBA team...

Where is Columbus, Oh? They have talked on the radio about Mayor Coleman stating he wants a team in Nationwide Arena at some point.

it's important to know where other cities rank to see if it's possible to sustain a franchise in such a market.
as DC showed (who has more knowledge of the VaBeach area than myself), they may be a more viable market than I would have previously believed. Still think they should be (and are) behind some of the other options though.

Yea, for the record, I wasn't arguing in favor of Virginia Beach as a relocation spot.. just pointing out that it is more densely populated than most people think and it does have some advantages... Personally I think the biggest and best location without a professional basketball team is Charlotte.

I bet they (stupidly) move to Anaheim. There is a nice arena and lot's of people. The problem is most of those people are already Laker fans.
If they have to move I hope they move to Seattle and the Sonics make a comeback.

to protect the NBA from lawsuits. you have to understand that 99% of what commissioners say these days to the media is directly related to litigation or possible litigation.

UNC officials: No NCAA rules were broken related to African studies fraud BY JANE STANCILL CHAPEL HILL -- The NCAA found no evidence that its rules were violated by the academic misconduct in UNC-Chapel Hill’s African and Afro-American Studies department, university officials said Friday. The department has been the focus of an academic fraud investigation by the university, the State Bureau of Investigation and now, an independent review led by former N.C. Gov. Jim Martin. An internal campus review released in May disclosed that 54 courses in African studies, many heavily attended by athletes, were no-show classes with little or no faculty supervision. That internal review was provided to the NCAA in May. On Aug. 23, the university’s attorney and a senior associate dean updated NCAA enforcement staff, who reaffirmed that no NCAA rules appeared to have been broken, the university said. UNC first notified the NCAA about the academic problems in August 2011, and NCAA enforcement staffers came to Chapel Hill several times last fall to join in the investigation, according to a university statement released Friday. NCAA officials talked to faculty and staff members in African studies, as well as some student-athletes who had taken classes in the department. “Based on the joint review, UNC and the NCAA staff concluded there were no violations of current NCAA rules or student-athlete eligibility issues related to courses in African and Afro-American Studies,” the statement said. These issues were not included in the proceedings when UNC appeared before the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions last fall, and it appears the university will avoid additional NCAA sanctions related to the findings about African studies. Several reviews of the African and Afro-American Studies department are under way. A UNC Board of Governors panel is looking at the campus’ handling of the situation. Martin, who is working with a national consulting firm, is probing whether other academic irregularities occurred on the campus. “University officials will continue to keep the NCAA informed as developments warrant,” the university’s statement said Friday. web page

possibly. honestly, it'll probably adjust throughout the season. Andy starting some, TT some, Zeller some. Any combo of those 3 is what is important. Or maybe he knows about a big trade coming that we don't know

Speaking of Trades. Wow is this a dead period for the NBA Trade Machine. I'm pretty sure half the NBA can't be traded right now. I usually can spend half an hour minimum having fun on there... Sad thing is, besides AV and Walton's Ex. Contract, we have nothing really to trade, unless someone for some reason is looking to just dump a young talented player?

I can't wait for the season to start. I really have a good feeling about the Cavs this year. I'm not saying title contenders, but I think this team is going to be a fun team to watch.
Kyrie has to stay healthy though. That's really my only worry with him. Outside of that he's the complete package as PG's go. He's a franchise player.
I've already made the decision to do the 5-team online package. With the NHL out at least until December, I'm gonna buck up the 110$
Any suggestions on another 4 teams? With the NBA and how they put their prodcut out, there is no need to pick Miami, OKC, LAL, DAL or Boston. All those teams get shown anyway.
I'm thinking possibly the Wolves. Rubio and K-Love? I'm in.

Some of the guys I play with know some guys who play at the NHL level, and I guess they were told to be ready for December.
Makes sense because a lot of NHL guys, including some decent players are going to play in the AHL, even more than the last lockout. I think that says to them that they are going to be prepared to come back soon. Nobody wants a situation where the NBA had guys come back in December, and by February, EVERYONE was hurt. NHL guys will get their legs in the minors and be ready for December.
The league wants to get this done for the winter classic and for the Christmas shopping season.
That's just what I've heard.
But yeah, NBA 5 team package.

Maybe the Clips, I have to check to see how much they are going to be on national tv

a decent 5, though I'm staying away from Portland this year and the Clips (as you mentioned) will likely be on TV enough.
i'm going with Cavs, Grizz, Jazz, Pacers, and I haven't picked the last team yet. Possibly Warriors though that doesn't usually end well. Possibly Twolves, possibly Hornets.

I really hope the Cavs get Tony Mitchell from North Texas. He has NBA size and body. He plays really good physical defense too. He would fill the hole at SF. I can't find out who they play this year though.  The preseason NIT (November 21) could be his coming out party this year.
