That entire area has been up in the air as far as "ownership" following the breakup of the Ottoman Empire.

There was no Palestine until the League of Nations created it.

May be as far as politcally, but those same people (the ones we call "palestinians") have been there far longer than the breakup of the Ottoman Empire

And we should care because?

I guess it's time to battle our historical ignorance

The British during WW2 promised the Palestinians the right to vote. At this point, they vastly outnumbered the Jews and would have voted for a government which would shut down the immigrant Jewish population from coming into Israel. They would have controlled the country and it would have been theirs. They just asked the Palestinians not to cause unrest during the war. The Palestinians followed this with the expectation that they'd get a chance to vote for their government (along with the Jews living in the country)

This decision instead was handed over to the UN after WW2, who established Israel as a safe-heaven for Jews because of the holocaust. This was viewed by the Arab World as a grave injustice. I don't know if they actually cared about the Palestinians, but the fact remains, the Palestinians had nothing to do with the holocaust, yet they payed the penalty for it. That's why they attacked Israel.

The country was a mistake created by the UN. The Palestinians never got the chance to vote for their government and eliminate the influx of immigrants.

They could have moved to Jordan in the break up of the state, but would you want to leave....... a place you called home, for somewhere else? Because the UN said so? You expect people to just move across that river (that the West Bank is on) to Jordan? And Jordan has very little compared to what Israel has. The Palestinians (living in what is now Israel) wanted what they were promised by Britain, a chance to elect their government in their own land. They got screwed.

From my understanding, Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank aren't Israeli Citizens. They don't vote in Israeli elections. They get no say as to what the Israeli government does. Those people are oppressed.

The economic state of Palestinians in Gaza verses that of those in the West Bank doesn't matter. They can do whatever they want and I won't blame them. That land is theirs.

It absolutely matters because the Palestinians in the West Bank have chosen a more peaceful route with Israel and those in the Gaza Strip have chosen a belligerent one. See the statement above about your idiotic (yes, it's idiotic) statement about 'the land is theirs.'

The land is their land, they've lived there for thousands of years......... How it was decided that the Jewish Homeland should be Israel is beyond me. It should have been Bavaria. The Germans should pay for what they caused.

And the Palestinians have every right to fight as long as they want until they get what they see is fair. If the people in Gaza are unhappy about being ruled by Israel, they have every right to rise up as they see fit. They are the ones who are oppressed. They live in a state of Apartheid. And if the people of the West Bank don't feel the same way, that's fair too. But, if they were doing the same thing I wouldn't blame them either.

I have a misunderstanding of the word condone, yes, I guess I do condone it. I don't blame them for it, and I won't criticize it. I "overlook it" as dictionary.com would say. But do I support it, no. I merely say, they can do what they want and I won't look down on them.

As for the other Arab states, I despise their governments too. They don't care about the Palestinians. They use the cause to further their own agenda.

And why you should give a crap, I dunno. We have different viewpoints there. I guess I care about these conflicts, and it really pisses me off that our country continues to aid a country like Israel, which practices Apartheid. I like to be on the morally right side of things, and we are morally wrong to give Israel all the aid that we do, which is a ridiculous amount.

But i'm guessing, from where we do agree in politics, that you do get frustrated with the amount of aid we give Israel every year. It's one of the reasons why I voted for Ron Paul in the primary
