Ding! DING! DING! Winner!

I didn't even see that one. Aside from changing bedpans, this would have to be about the biggest nightmare anyone could experience.

This is a worst job thread, not worst halloween costume thread or favorite "furries" costume.

Worst Job: I worked at California Scents for 1 day. California Scents makes fragrances. The factory was smelly and sticky and the people there sucked. I hated it. Only worked 1 day.

My favorite job was working as the mail room clerk at Eaton. My job was to receive the mail at the building and get the mail delivered to each department throughout the building by 10 am. After that, I received FedEx and UPS deliveries. I had to get those packages to each department throughout the building by 2 pm. Then, I had to ship all the outgoing packages and whatnot so FedEx and UPS could pick them up by 5. Then I would leave for the day. It sounds bad, but man, I really miss it. I had a lot of flexibility with my time and got to know each department's admin on a personal basis. Plus, everybody loves the delivery guy. Lol. I really and truly miss the job and the people there.

I'm not so sure I'd consider that a "worst job". It depends on your age and other factors (did you recently lose a job being a professional athlete to be Chuck E. Cheese? Are you a high school student looking for a minimum wage job with low stress and you like kids?).

In college, I had a job at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea doing grounds maintenance. Part of that was mucking out the stalls from the farm animals at the Fair. The absolute worst part, was the chicken house - the air in there was just not breath-able, especially in the heat of late summer. That wasn't my worst job though, the worst jobs imo are dealing with the public.

Selling Kirby Vacuum Cleaners.. I was really good at it.. only worked for them for 1 month. went on 20 appointments, sold 20 units,,,,, trouble was, I was selling them in Western PA (uniontown area) and nobody could get credit. The only one that held up was the one where the lady paid cash on the spot.

20 sales in 20 appointments and 19 fell off due to financing. I made a whole $60 bucks for the entire month. Of course, this was when Kirbys sold for $475 and that was the full boat unit.. all the bells and whistles.

And I had to listen to that stupid polka song every morning at the meetings.

Roll out the Kirby, We got the dirt on the run (sung to the beer barrel polka) My god I had to be out of my freaking mind...LOL

Worst job - Working as a government contractor after I had lost my position. The company wanted to keep me on staff, but I had nothing to do. I mean nothing. I had no computer, no office, no work, absolutely nothing to keep me occupied during the day. I got really good at crossword puzzles in the local paper. To make things worse, I had to show up for 'roll call' in the morning, before and after lunch, and the afternoon. I may as well had been punching a time clock. I 'worked' in a warehouse that stored forgotten US Navy furniture, so at least I had some nice chairs to sit in, but I wasn't supposed to be there.

Best job - I worked for a internet equipment manufacturer in their Technical Assistance Center. It was a very high pressure, fast paced job. The entire TAC got laid off in the tech bubble crash. I really miss that job.

I've actually had very few jobs in my life but when I was a teenager I got a job chopping up vegetables for a company that furnished McDonalds salads.

I lasted almost 2 full hours on that job before the smell of that place made me sick. Of course it could have been the two gals standing next to me, I'm not sure I'll ever really know and don't really care.

I've been with the same company now for 34 years, it smells fairly normal.

Had a few terrible jobs. Right after graduating lost, my job working near Cincinnati and moved back home to Cleveland (improvement IMO). First job back I was folding boxes....all day.

They shipped out new X-Ray film to hospitals etc across the US. And I sat there and folded the boxes in which the film shipped in for 8 hours a day. I lasted 2 weeks there, my hands would tighten up to the point of pain and they got so dry that bleeding became an issue. Still, not the worst job as the people were solid, got lunch provided once a week and could listen to ipod all day.

The absolute worst job I've had was working at Safety Sign. Its a small business in Berea where they screen printed safety signs, stickers, decals, etc... The owner would get mad at me for using too many gloves when dealing with mineral spirts (a know cancer causer). So the next day I brought in my own box, boy did that P him off! the final straw, was he asked me to go cut him some fiber glass signs. To which I replied like a smart ass; "You got a go cut me some fiberglass signs Mask?" Turns out he didn't and we got into a yelling match and I quit on the spot. Sorry buddy, not cutting up my lungs for you, go hire some other idiot to do so. Bad boss, worse person.

My worst job was at a plastic factory. Ugh. (They made Rubbermaid products, IIRC)

12 hour shifts ...... and my hands got beat to death. It was hot as hell, and the work was tedious and made me stand at a ridiculous angle that hurt my back, shoulders, and legs. They were constantly hiring, because they lost half of their hired class after less than a week. They actually gave bonuses if you showed up for work every day you were scheduled to work in a week.

I stuck it out for 3 months, but just couldn't do it beyond that.

It was *my* worst job, thus far (high school at the time). The costume had probably been worn by hundreds of people over the years and it was hot and stinky. The kids had pulled off Chuck's tail over the years and you had to walk with it tucked between your thighs to keep it in place. It was kind of hard to see out of and the head was a little heavy so you couldn't exactly bend over or you were on the ground. The feet...ugh...huge and hard to walk in.

I only had to do it a couple times before I quit that job, but that *is* the reason I quit. God only knows what things were living and breeding in that outfit. VERY unsanitary.

On the plus side -- and I LOVE kids -- when they made me wear Chuck E., I would make kids cry. Not really on purpose, but kids loved him until he got too close, then they screamed bloody murder. So, them crying made me feel a little better since I couldn't.

I can't say that I've had any horrible jobs, but the "worst" of them was working in an aluminum foundry for a summer. Pouring hot metal into molds in 100+ degree heat was dirty, sweaty work. However, it was a good-paying summer job that helped pay for my education. Also, I gained a new appreciation for folks who work in manufacturing (yes, it was a union shop -- I did not have to join the union, however). I met a lot of cool, down-to-earth people who were very encouraging.

It wasn't all bad.

It's a tie between working at Chick Fil-A for half a year and two months worth of telemarketing at three different spots.

Chick Fil-A was awful because of the minimum wages and busting tail cleaning fryers and the toll on the back from bending and reaching assembling (can't call much of the food industry "cooking" anymore) the sandwiches. After three months of being a top-notch employee, my "big raise" was an opportunity to work 10am-4pm Monday-Saturday- impossible because of a school schedule. Since I couldn't do it on THOSE terms, my wage remained minimum. On top of that I was the CFA cow for extra hours a handful of times. Outside. In Florida. In the Summer. Like Michelle, I wonder how often (knowing not very!) that costume was cleaned. I made it fun doing a fundraiser walk in it with other mascots- it wasn't a race- but I sprinted the end and taunted the others for finishing behind me.

Telemarketing is self explanatory. Pushing crappy savings programs to people who bought crap on the TV, cold-calling yellow-page listed businesses for software and tech support, and credit-card debt vulturing for two months worth has made me hate talking on the phone (not like I cared to in the first place). The low point was just telling a person dialed, "Yeah. It is awful. But beggars can't be choosers in this economy, huh?"

Working in a tomato processing shed in the middle of nowhere in Australia. 12 hr shifts, constantly moving giant bins of tomatoes to and from a sizer/washer and cleaning them out with a bleach mixture and stacking them for re-use. Ridiculously strenuous and dipped my hands into bleach and water so many times I'd peel off a layer of skin a day.

But after working for 21 days in a row, I was able to continue my travels and took a solid week off, lounging on a island in the north, sipping beer and catching sun.

Juice was worth the squeeze.

Dressing up as Chuck E. Cheese.

Aww. I worked at Chuck E. Cheese right out of High School and loved dressing up as Chuck E!! I remember once I bent down to give a kid a hug and she grabbed the nose on the mask. Not realizing she had a grip on it, I lifted my head up and the nose popped off!! The poor little girl started crying and screaming that she broke Chuck E's nose!!

To each there own, but I actually enjoyed that job. Made some life long friends there.

The worst aspect of any job I have ever had was when I was robbed, and had a gun put to my head.

I was a debit insurance agent, which means that I went out to collect premiums every month. I actually enjoyed the job until I was robbed. That ruined it for me.

What really sucked was that my boss's boss really liked my work, and wanted to promote me. However I would still have to go out, and that gun to my head ended that for me.

Out of high school I worked on a tire shredder at a local landfill. It was outside, and we worked rain, shine, snow, whatever, 12 hour shifts. There was nothing worse than picking up a tire to put it on the belt to get shredded, and ice cold water splashes out on you in the middle of winter.

And the garbage men picked up the tires in their garbage trucks. They would then drop them off to us, and any remaining garbage in their trucks would come out with the tires. The job was pure hell, and I would wish it on no one.
