hey, the Cowboys have a similar system in player recruitment. Jerry Jones forces them to pick a guy from Tx, OU, OSU, Arkansas, LSU, or A&M ahead of higher rated players from other schools because he has seats to sell and alumni to cater to in Dallas!

Actually DC I did not mean it in a negative way. If you look at what I was responding to in its context, you will see that I was responding to someone who I felt indicated he may be a "Jerry Jones type" who would be very much a meddler by handing down orders about football decisions to Banner and having Banner do his bidding. Where as, it appears from Haslams comments that he values putting the people he has have faith in at positions of authority and responsibilty and working together as a unit to accomplish the common goal by bulding througfh the draft and continuity. I don't feel that's a bad thing. Knowing your limitations, what you're good at and what you still need to learn is something I feel is quite positive. It seems to me Haslam has a very good handle on that. From his comments, I don't think he'll be trying to micro-manage the people he hires, but work with them instead.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Yeah, I'm not a politician. When we agree I'm more than willing to admit it.

It just occurred to me the explanation for the seemingly never-ending cycle of disdain for anyone that comes in here; it is one of the most famous idioms in existence:
Familiarity breeds contempt
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

On Banner...I don't like the guy, because he is pursuing the job out of spite for being fired from his job in Philly.
Banner wants to show people he can be a personnel guy as well as a "bean counter".
Once Banner was fired, how many franchises looking for front office help tried to hire him?...none that I know of.
Banner was not being pursued for a job so he figured out a way he could "buy" a job as President of a team...by using his money, becoming part of an investment group that bought a team.
Banner didn't care what team a group bought and what caught my eye, Banner wouldn't even mind if the group bought a team and moved it to Los Angeles ...obviously Banner doesn't care about the fans.
"IF"...just saying if, a few years down the road, this ownership of the Browns thing didn't workout so well for Haslam and he had an opportunity to "hit the jackpot" by moving the Browns...Banner would be the first guy loading the Mayflower trucks.
One article I read on Banner, moving the Bills to Los Angeles was mentioned and Banner appeared to look at that as a challenge for himself...the guy is all about himself and feeding his ego.
On Haslam knowing football...I like the quote Pit dug up...
"I hate to refer back to our business track record, but that’s all I know to refer back to."
Haslam is a truckstop owner, folks...the people who are going to run this franchise will be Haslam's President and GM.
Change is the enemy of the Cleveland Browns...and sadly, I see nothing but more change coming.

He hasn't even been hired nor have his appointed duties been named. So how do you know this? As of now, it's our GM who basicly holds that roll, not the team president.
It very well may be that Banner will be in charge of the financial end and a GM will be named, or Heckert be retained to make personnel decisions.
Don't you think you may be jumping the gun with your assumptions?

Pit, you'll have to forgive Mac.
His mind is in a weird and conflicted state right now. It's trying to sort out how Banner can come aboard when that goes against everything Haslam has told him, since they agree on how the structure of the Browns should be created.
This is a volatile time for Mac the Browns fan.
***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy. Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***

Toad...this is obviously a volatile time for you too...the man who believes Holmgren, Heckert and Shurmur should get this season AND NEXT SEASON to show results.
Just two months ago, Toad said this...
Quote:
I'm not offering an opinion of how well these guys may or may not do, but I just wanted to note the amount of risk these guys have taken to try and go for the quick-fix. If they aren't right...and Richardson is the only guy considered to be a lock...we're facing a new President, a new GM, and a new coaching staff all over again. And that won't start until after the 2013 season.
I never realized how quickly a toad could change colors...attempting to play both sides of an issue...

You are using a quote from before we knew we had a new owner to "trap" Toad?
Wow...that's a good job of taking things out of context.
you had a good run Hank.

I was unaware predictions are the same as support.
Honestly, Mac, it's okay to admit you're wrong sometimes. Really.
