has their ever been a year like this one where almost all of the truly dynamic prospects cannot even declare for the draft?

i'd take Clowney, Marquise Lee, and yes, Johnny Football before anyone else coming out this year.

D'Anthony Thomas, Stephen Tuitt and Sammy Watkins too.

It sucks but next year will be incredible.

Clowney is as good as anybody you could ever name to enter the NFL....D-line of course. I'd take him in a heartbeat. When I watch him play I think of LeRoy Selmon.

I was just thinking that we could trade our number 6 pick this year for a second now and a one next year. The reason being we would then have the ammo to move up for one of the top prospects next year. The only problem is that I don't know who in this draft would cause a team to want to move up, even if we just wanted to drop lower in the first round. I guess the combine will set some players apart from the rest of the pack.

LSU's Eric Reid to forgo senior year

BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU All-American safety Eric Reid has decided to enter the NFL draft and forgo his senior season, he announced Friday through a school news release.

Reid, ranked No. 3 among junior safeties by ESPN Insider Mel Kiper Jr. and No. 42 overall by ESPN's Scouts Inc., joins linebacker Kevin Minter, cornerback Tharold Simon and running back Spencer Ware on the list of LSU juniors leaving early for the NFL draft. Sophomore punter Brad Wing also announced he would be entering the draft.

In the news release, Reid thanked LSU coach Les Miles and called his decision "difficult," but said, "After careful consideration and talking with my family, I feel this is the right time to make this decision."

Laney: LSU's Secondary Will Stay Deep

LSU's secondary still will be in better shape than it was entering 2012, with four of its top six DBs back next season, writes Gary Laney. Blog

Simon, 6-foot-2, 197 pounds, is rated as the No. 15 cornerback and No. 66 overall by ESPN Scouts Inc.

"I have loved every minute of being an LSU Tiger, and my heart will always remain at this incredible institution," Simon said Friday.

A native of suburban Baton Rouge whose father was a track star at LSU, Reid played on LSU teams that combined for a 34-6 record in three years, reaching 10 wins each year while winning an SEC title and playing in a BCS national title game.

"I've been very fortunate and blessed to have been able to play football at LSU," he said in the news release. "It was always my dream to go to LSU and play football."

In his junior year, Reid led LSU's secondary with 91 tackles and added two interceptions while providing leadership as the lone returning starter in the Tigers' secondary. He finished the year as a consensus All-American and the sixth All-American secondary player to play for Miles, including four in the last three seasons.

In 39 career games, he started 29 with 194 career tackles and six career interceptions.

Ware had a disappointing junior season with 367 yards on 94 carries after he led the team with 707 yards on 177 carries as a sophomore. He was LSU's best third-down back this season, leading the Tigers' backs with 18 receptions for 230 yards and a touchdown.

Wing earned All-American honors as a freshman after averaging 44.4 yards per punt. Only 12 of his 59 punts were returned and 27 were downed inside the 20. His average improved to 44.8 yards per punt during his sophomore season. He missed the Chick-fil-A Bowl after being suspended from the team for violation of team rules.

LSU has several other players who are considering leaving after their junior seasons but have not made a decision public.

Defensive ends Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo are widely expected to leave. Defensive tackle Bennie Logan and running back Michael Ford are also weighing their options.

Information from ESPN's Joe Schad was used in this report.

one, I'm sort of glad Chip Kelly said no (or we said no, whichever you choose to believe) so now we can get on with talking about NFL talent without the disclaimer of "If he fits Chip Kelly's system"...

two, about Johnny Football.. I posed a scenario to my son the other day.. I said, you watch, Tom Brady is going to win the super bowl this year, have a pro bowl caliber season next year, get hurt and miss the following year and the Patriots will win 3 games and then draft Manziel... So goes the Colts, so goes the Patriots...

..And then Tom Brady will sign with The Browns and lead them to a Super Bowl!

Unless he decides to enter the draft next year.

He'll be a Redshirt Sophmore, 3 years removed from HS.

He'll also be able to be in the catbird seat of being able to see which team is picking high before he has to come out the next few years...

Basically Johnny Football can pick his spot. (Except next year I doubt anyone passes over Clowney)

He'd still be better than what we have.

And I wouldn't even want a QB in the 2014 NFL draft.....give me Clowney. He can just kill every opposing QB we play on the first snap. We will win the Super Bowl by default.

That hit on that Michigan RB.................I have never seen a play/hit like that before. We had 25 people over and most ran into the room to see that replay and every single one of them was in awe.....like watching Star Wars as a 7-year old again.

I find that very hard to believe... you have 25 friends?

There are 32 teams that will want Clowney... the dude is a manimal... he's like a cross between Demarcus Ware and Ed "too tall" Jones...

I've been in support of this as well. I'd try to take it a step further, and then try to trade our second rounder (acquired in that trade) this year for another first rounder next year.

Our best shot at making the initial trade would be to a team desperately looking for OL help... the Eagles already pick ahead of us so maybe the Bears, Chargers, or Cowboys.

I'm not totally opposed to trading out of the pick for good compensation... but I doubt the first move of a new regime that really wants to make a splash is going to be to get rid of all their first and second day picks this year...

We would be trading a first round pick for two first round picks the next year, and still have our third this year. You're probably right, but I'm still going to make my empty supplications to the internet to do it.

I am hoping that since all of the guys Lombardi was close to have vanished into the ether, (Kelly, Marrone, and O'Brien) then so will he.

Yea, I didn't say it wasn't the wise thing to do... just that I don't see them doing it.

Trust me, I'd love to trade out of that pick and make a big splash in FA with a couple quality signings... that would offset it for me personally..

I had though maybe Teo but I think it is going to take a very strong combine and Sr. bowl etc,. Tonights game ain't doing much for his stock. But as to you're idea we would then end up with 3 first next year. It would probably take two to move up into the one spot ( being optomistic here) for Clowney. That could leave one more for a WR,Qb etc. I could definately get on board with that.

I'm glad. The value of what seems to be the over-rated inside backer of the draft at #6 overall makes me want to bang my head into a wall.

I was way more impressed with Mosley. That dude can play.

Good thing for Te'o is that he can fly in low. He probably dropped quite a few spots in the draft, but that also means he'll go to a good team, and go in with lower expectations. I said a month ago that tonight was a big night for him. He needed to show up. They didn't need to win but he needed to have his name called. Unfortunately for him the only time he was mentioned was when he was missing tackles. I still think the guy will end up a good NFL'er. Much along the lines of AJ Hawk. Hawk got drafted high because he never had a night like tonight, but he was still probably drafted a little too high.

I like Te'o a lot as a person and a football player but he's no top 10 pick. If anything, Mosley may have jumped up a few spots.

I want some of those guys on the Bama front line, good lord those are some horses.

I'm glad ppl finally off the Teo cool aid. Where's my Milliner following? He played well against Eifert all day. He was severely undersized against him and did outstanding. FYI for those who dont know Eifert is a TE, a very good tight end. And Milliner pretty much nulled him out the whole game.

Ouch.

However, based on tonight .... accurate. He looked slow and out of position to me ..... and he wound up flat on his back without even touching the RB on one play I remember. He got faked out really badly.

For whatever it's worth .... I didn't want him before tonight, so maybe that colored my opinion somewhat.
