Their run defense has sucked all year. I know the buckeyes ran all over them for 63 pts. Pelini has been a disappointment since he's been there. They havn't been horrible, but definitely hasn't taken them back to their glory days like many thought he would.

It's a shame too, because Pelini is a good, solid Youngstown guy.

looks like they tried to win 5 games tonight.

It'd be funny if they end up running all over stanford.

Yeah, Wisconsin picked a good season to suck. Lose 4 games in the Big 10 and still win the Leaders division.

I think Pelini gets in trouble by not getting the best coaches on his staff. Last year he had his brother and a former Mooney player as his offensive/defensive coordinators. Joe Banner commented on this a few weeks ago where coaches don't get the best qualified people by picking people they know. Carl Pelini just 12 years ago was coaching at Austintown Fitch.

He also is too willing to hand out scholarships to Mooney football players. 2 years ago he gave his nephew a scholarship, even though his ability didn't match a Nebraska scholarship. Only Braylon Heard was really deserving from that team 3 years ago.

Nebraska's defense may be the worst I've ever seen in my life. When there are holes that are big enough that an average person like you or me could run through it's really embarrassing. Did the Nebraska players even want to play? I mean put eight men in the box and flat out blitz if it gets that bad. I just didn't really get it. I mean Montee Ball is good and all, but the rest of the running backs aren't really that special.

Me thinks Nebraska doesn't belong in the Big Ten.

Mid-American champion Northern Illinois has busted the BCS and will play Florida State in the Orange Bowl, sources told ESPN.

Northern Illinois finished in the top 16 of the final BCS rankings to guarantee a BCS bowl berth. NIU's guaranteed spot knocked out Oklahoma, projected as an at-large selection, from going to the Sugar Bowl.

Quote:

NIU coach Dave Doeren took the NC State job Saturday and will not coach in the Orange Bowl, marking the second time in four years a coach earned a BCS bowl berth but left for another job. In the 2009 season, Brian Kelly led Cincinnati to a 12-0 record and Sugar Bowl berth but left for Notre Dame.

Who wants to see those 2 matchups? Oklahoma vs Florida would've been great. Now we have 2 crappy games instead of 1. NIce job bcs.

Seriously? You can't wait until after the biggest game in your school's history before you bolt for greener pastures? What a d-bag.

Best of luck to Northern, even if they got screwed.

What, did NC State big shot him saying they had some huge name waiting if he didn't take the job immediately?

This is the part of college football I can't stand. Those kids busted their ass all year long for this moment, and they are not even getting a chance.

I said the same thing about Brian Kelly.

I wish they would make these coaches honor their contracts, or at least have some kind of consequence for leaving.

I know you're a mac guy, but Northern Illinois hasn't beaten anyone. This isn't Boise or Tcu in recent years, who beat some good teams. They lost to an 8 loss Iowa team, and didn't beat a single team from a power conference.

I just want to see the best games, and I know for a fact Oklahoma has better players, played a better schedule, and deserves to be in the bcs.

You can't fault the coach for taking a better job. No sense having a coach attend some game, where he has another job already. Sucks for the kids, but it's part of the beast I guess.

According to the system that is in place.

So does NIU.

Coaches should have to sit out a year just like the kids do when they transfer. Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't go that far.

But if you sign a 4 year contract to coach a team. You shouldn't just be allowed to leave whenever you want.

And recruiting is the reason teams leave before bowl games. Because one month of recruiting at your new school is apparently more important than finishing what you started...

Good for NIU. Would've been us if it wasn't for our defense not showing up the last three games of the season.

NIU doesn't deserve to be in the BCS!

But apparently Wisconsin and Louisville do...

EDIT: Kirk Herbstreet wants to see teams like Oklahoma, and Georgia in games that matter! Not NIU!

Because apparently winning the Orange bowl "matters"

Yeah, a conference that was 20 yards and five points away from upsetting OSU last year doesn't matter.

I don't think I've ever wanted a team to win a game as much as I do NIU now...

They lost to Iowa, and barely beat Army and Kansas. That's not deserving if you ask me. They don't have a good win on their resume.

I'm sorry but once someone uses the term "resume" as it relates to college football it just sound ridiculous to me..

They beat a ranked Kent State team and a Toledo team that was ranked, too.

But it doesn't matter because it's the MAC. It doesn't happen to be a conference that routinely upsets Big 10 teams every year or anything...

This is the same kind of thing that happened when Boise State first got in.

All they did was beat Oklahoma.

How good were Toledo, and Kent State? I watched the mac championship. You think Kent State is a great team? I didn't see much in comparsion to Oklahoma, Clemson, etc. Just stating the facts that Northern Illinois didn't beat anyone. Army is not a good football team, yet they scored 40 on Northern Illinois.

The bcs is a complete joke. Will be glad when it's over next year.

I don't think the BCS is going to be "over"

They will just use it to get the top 4, no?

Kent State beat Ohio who beat Penn State. Kent also beat #15 ranked Rutgers. They just couldn't stop the overcharged NIU offense.

Toledo came within a point of beating Arizona. We also manhandled the Cincinnati offense. We were #23 but then laid an egg against Ball State and got torched by the offense of NIU.

I love the BCS when funny things like this happen.

Back to Coaches...

If you're an NC State player or Recruit..

And Dave Doren is sitting there telling you to come play for NC State, how do you know he's going to be there?

Kids need to stop going to schools for coaches and go for the schools.

And Oklahoma beat Texas Tech, Texas, Baylor, West Virgina, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and Tcu.

That's a better list of wins than what Toledo or Northern Illinois beat.

Which is why they are ranked ahead of NIU.

Which also doesn't matter.

The guy will be making 1.8 million per year. How could you blame the guy for cashing in and taking care of his family. How much was he making at Niu? I don't know too many folks that would leave that amount of money on the table.

Sometimes life means more to people than just money.

Also, it's fun watching this ESPN meltdown about NIU. Now they're talking about how to avoid MAC teams on getting into the playoff. This is like Karl Rove on election night.

I have nothing against a guy taking a better job.

I just find the whole, leaving your team before this season is over thing, to be cowardly..
