What do you mean you got caught speeding?

58 in a 55?

I'm sorry, your reckless behavior is too risky for my company, hiring you alone would cause our insurance rates to skyrocket!

I know a friend who owns fastener business. He also delivers his products locally by truck as part of his service. One of his drivers got a dui and multiple speeding tickets and it got to the point that it cost way to much to insure this guy. He had to broom him even though he liked the kid. The cost of keeping him on was too high.

Family history of heart disease, or cancer, couch potatoes, people with a few speeding tickets, etc, etc, etc, this is just the beginning it's only going to get worse unless people stand up and put a stop to it.

I agree. Here is the rub for me. Its going to take a *gasp* Unionizing effort to do it. I am not a pro-union person for many reasons, but this would be one issue that I would support them in. BTW, I have no horse in this race. I don't smoke. It is a slippery slope and we already see it with banning super size cola's and drinks. People are losing their rights. Some of them through government and some of them through over-reaching employers. Might as well have monthly STD testing to check for unprotected sex.

I would think that people who are upset about paying tax money into social programs that they don't use would also be upset about paying insurance money for risky behaviors they don't partake in...

...right?

sure, but it's why the whole insurance business needs to be overhauled in the first place. employers can set aside an allocation per employee, but basing employee premiums on whichever employees happen to work for a specific company is ridiculous. there should be a larger pool to allocate the get the overall average down better, etc.

lots of improvements to be made and none considered by either side during the healthcare debates.

Yep, if only there was a way to make the people who receive government money from social programs abide by these rules and leave those of us who support ourselves alone.. then you would be onto something... but then, that wouldn't be FAIR.
