The threads are back there. You might be slow, but not so slow that you can't do your own homework.

Actually, they're not...the TR thread was in the Gameday forum, which got deleted. So, it isn't searchable (luckily, for you). The only related thread is this one, where other people agree they all threw Shurmer under the bus.

No, I seriously don't know the answer. I remember there was thread (you are the one that wanting me to go digging through threads ), but I don't remember many other posters pointing out the "clear difference." You seem to remember it, but I don't...please enlighten me. It's really not that hard of a question.

Well, Okay man. It is Christmas, and it is your (possibly) favorite player, and he's nearing the end. I got ya.
There are various levels of "throwing the coach under the bus." Broad term, circumstances change, etc.
Weeden was the worst of the three, and it's not close. His quotes were as follows: Quote:
"There's a couple of routes we ran on Sunday for the first time all week and that's not fair to me, it's not fair to the receivers, it's not fair to any of us, because when you're getting thrown in the fire and the bullets are flying . . ."
From there, Shurmur chided him through the media by stating how things are actually ran in the NFL, where QB's and receivers are supposed to stay after practice and work on routes. Mass came along later and flat-out disagreed with Weeds as well to the media.
Cribbs, unfortunately, has a history of being mercurial. He gets moody, he pouts, he sometimes whines, and as we saw a couple of years ago he went so far as to do the media route to try disparage the Browns FO so he could get more money. I won't go into the long list of things that have been his issues over the years because that's just rubbing salt into the wound. What I will say is that his role has been defined more this year, and his production up in his role because of it. So when the team is losing and he comes out...again...to the public forum as a way to plead his case, it doesn't bode well for him. Had he just said one sentence, it could have been glossed over. Weeden got some slack because as he was whining, he realized what he'd said and changed directions really quickly, hehe. He also didn't bring it back up. Very astute of him. Cribbs just kept on. Here's all the things he said:
Quote:
“I’ve talked to the head coach but there’s no point. Obviously they feel like everybody that’s in front of me is a better athlete. I disagree. I feel a different way than the coach feels about me. They must feel I can’t produce. We have a difference of opinion.”
On his value: “I feel like I’m better than the next man, that man, whoever’s in front of me, but I don’t have that opportunity.”
On it being his contract year: “I can’t even showcase myself. I’m more than a special teams player. I’ve proven that. I belong on the field more than this, more than what they’re allowing me to do. I’ve tried not to say much, but it’s upsetting. We’re nine games into the season and I haven’t gotten a chance.”
Now there's more, but you get the drift. Really, this has been brewing since the beginning of the year when Shurmur said Cribbs was on the "back nine of his career" which didn't sit well with Cribbs.
That isn't the right way for Cribbs to go about getting touches. When he does that, he looks like a selfish guy. Then when you follow that up with the tweet where he dropped an F-bomb on the fans, well, it validates the belief that he wasn't just firing off in the moment and that it was a one-time thing.
Richardson's comments? Far less aggressive: Quote:
Richardson was asked for his reaction to just a pair of second-half carries.
"It's shocking," he said. "But like I said, the game's much bigger than me. I've got to let coach do what he does."
Now I'm not going to take the time to dig, but Mary Kay even stated that his comments weren't seen as being angry or aggressive towards Shurmur. When a media voice defends a player, well, that carries weight.
Now if Richardson comes back and does it again with more anger, it'll be a different story. He just had a quick response. He didn't blame the coaches for being "unfair" with the entire team or himself, and he hasn't established a history of being a negative-nancy or a non team leader.
Thats how the situations are different.
In Cribbs' case, there's a history there. Richardson and Weeds have excuses in that they are rookies. Cribbs has been doing this a long time. He gets less slack because it's perceived he knows what he's doing. His Tweet response, unfortunately, confirms and reinforces a behavioral pattern.

I'm sorry, but that isn't even close to the full Richardson quote, which just shows you have a bias. From CBS : "We [were] ready for the game," Richardson said via Tom Reed of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "I think we've just got a game plan, and the game plan we had at the beginning of the game, I think we should've stuck with it. But we didn't stick with the game plan, and we tried to go do some other stuff, and the outcome came in a different way." To me, that says "we had a game plan to run the ball more, Coach didn't stick with the plan, so we lost." I've already come to terms that Cribbs won't be back next year (can I change my screen name?). That doesn't change the fact the Cribbs has been a stand-up player for the Cleveland Browns for the last 8 years. P.S. Mary Kay's opinion carries zero weight with anyone. But thank you for your response!

I also didn't post all the Cribbs quotes, nor all of the Weeden quotes. Didn't think I had to.
As for Mary Kay, the only reason her word carries any weight was because she was there during the interview. She and other reporters can tell us about things like body language and voice inflection, things we don't get when just reading quotes.

I have said for a long time now, that as our talent level rises our need for Cribbs diminishes. Lets not pretend Josh Cribbs is an Elite WR. His rise to fame has always been as a special teams player. And the facts are the facts he isnt really that effective as much as he used to be. Be it rule changes or just him getting older, the point is he isnt as effective as he used to be.
I love Cribbs, and have always supported him. But I have seen a change in his attitude the last couple seasons. Commenting to the media about playing time, and coaching decisions isnt being a good teammate. This year alone he has had that annoyed attitude. He realizes that we have a youth movement of bigger, faster, and stronger players who are pushing for playing time. If we was comfortable with him as a WR we wouldnt of drafted Gordon, Benjamin, and brought in Cooper. I think its pretty obvious the front office didnt see him as a legit WR no matter if he was second in yards last year amoung a terrible wr core.
And bashing fans on twitter is pretty much the last straw for him being a Brown. If you ask me I think he is trying to play his way off the team, his body language has sucked all year long. His general attitude has sucked all year long, his play on the field has pretty much sucked all year. And calling out fans on twitter sucks. He knows what type of fans Cleveland fans are. You cannot tell us to F off and expect things to ever be the same.
Like I said when I posted a message on my facebook, it had a picture of Cribbs before the Redskins game. The caption said "Most likely his last game as a Brown in Browns Stadium, thanks for the memories Mr. Cribbs!" he has always had my full support, but I think he is gone after this year. I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.
All good things must come to and end.....once again. Thanks for the memories Mr. Cribbs it was a fun ride!

Is it against the rules for a poster to chime in on the pun's if it's his name the puns are about?
I don't think so!??

When it comes to all of this "Did throw him under the bus.... Didn't throw him under the bus"?
We can all look at quotes and draw our own conclusions. Some will dwell on one or two points and ignore the rest. Some don't seem to see things in the same light.
The fact of the matter is, even though the new generation thinks texting and social media is some kind of an answer to communication, it most certainly is not.
Unless you can hear the tone of voice, the elevation of voice or lack there of...... Unless you can see the facial expressions and body language of an individual, all is speculation and guess work.
Most realise that many NFL players are not marketing geniuses. They are not public speakers. So they may not term things just the way one who has more prowess at these things might,
So you can guess, speculate and point fingers if you like by picking apart their every word. But the fact is, neither you nor anyone else on this board who only saw these comments in print really know the intent in which they were given. Unless it's an obvious slam throughout their quotes which from my recollection most certainly was not the case here.
And if you're depending on the Cleveland Sports media NOT to read more into it than their really is, I think you'll find yourself sadly disapointed. Which newspaper do you work for again?

My point had nothing to do with Twitter ... it was just the trigger for my thoughts.
Where is the appreciation for a guy that has done so much for this team?
Where is the line drawn between appreciation and reality.
I believe most all Browns fans appreciate the contributions he has made to the Browns. I feel almost all Browns fans feel he's a stand up guy and is a fine role model for our younger players.
But I do believe fans get a little muddled when trying to seperate their emotions for a player from a realistic player evaluation of that same guy. Cribbs is still a pretty good return man. And the situation/condition he is in, I really don't attribute solely to him.
As I recall, he was asked to bulk up because the coaching staff at the time wished to turn him into a WR. So along with the muscle came some restrictions in terms of speed and eluciveness. It's less about weight as it is about bulk.
But the fact of the matter is, you want your fastest, most elucive person as your return man. And at this time, that looks to be Travis Benjiman, not Josh Cribbs.
Let's face it, for the most part Browns fans love and appreciate Bernie Kosar, but we all know he isn't a viable option as a starting QB for the Browns.
So I do believe how you emotionaly feel about a player and the reality of any given situation are two seperate things. Trying to combine the two into one equasion is what I consider to be very silly in terms of a football discussion.
I'm going to quote your entire post as it is the most reasonable of the bunch ... and trust me Pit, that's not a compliment. The reading comprehension on this board is at an all time low.
It's amazing ... it really is ... but if someone were to say to me Cribbs has slowed down ... I would agree ... if someone were to say to me we should part ways ... I would listen ... if someone were to argue Benjamin should be the return guy ... I would be open to it. My thread had nothing to do with emotion ... some people are acting like I have a shrine built to Cribbs ... it had nothing to do with blurring emotion and reality ... or whether or not Cribbs should continue on the team ... or any of the other responses that have gotten play here.
I simply felt compelled to stand up for a guy who has been the ultimate competitor on a team consistently filled with losers ... who desparately gave his all every game ... who was willing to do whatever it took to win and really embraced a city that most players hate.
He is not a perfect human being. I get that. His good outweighs his bad though ... especially if you value guys who are competitors ... don't back down ... and give their all. But fans are the biggest hypocrites and the most judgmental breed of people out there. We expect perfection, and when we don't get it, we are going to let you know ... track record be damned.
I'm glad Cribbs said what he said to those idiots on Twitter. I really hope he gets to go and play for a winner.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Hey Josh...its going to be ok! Seriously the way you are coming acrossed sounds like you are either Cribbs himself, or someone close to him. Either way it seems he will get his wish, but I do warn him the grass isnt always greener on the other side! Here in Cleveland he had a fanbase that supported him, until he became a diva, and a loud mouth. Before throwing his coaches and teammates under the bus, and being all about himself. His true colors have finally shown through, and alot of his prior diva like moments where swept under the rug due to the fanbase trying to show loyalty to him for all that he has done. However he has finally worn out his welcome as far as his mouth and what we are going to put up with from our players.

The biggest thing Cribbs is guilty of ..... as Weeden and Richardson were guilty of ....... is letting their mouth override their brain.
They are all smarter than to have said what they did ..... but they said it anyway. I'm sure that they all said the things they did out of frustration. I can definitely understand that, because I've said a lot of stuff about the team and certain fans ... although usually to myself ...... out of irritation and/or frustration.
I'm not gonna worry about it. If this was something that happened several times per season for any of these guys then maybe I'd worry ...... but it was a one time thing for each of them.
I have to admit that I am curious as to who the "unnamed players" were who were irate over the way Shurmur handled the end of the Donks game though. It seems like there were quite a few from the sound of it.

You may not have blurred the two, but your initial post in this thread was FILLED with emotion. Maybe you should go back and read it again and try to figure out how anyone could possibly come to any other conclusion.

This I'm not sure I agree with. Let's face it, politicians are professional BS'ers and evn they say or phrase things the wrong way and the press has a field day with it. Our own marketing department was going to habd out the "sign of truce" in white flags for the fan base until it became an embarasing situation.
I used to watch Josh's Cribb when it was on TV. And let's face it, Josh isn't the most elequant speaker. Could he have worded some things a little differently that would hsve made them sound better? Sure he could have, But was the intent as bad as many tried to claim it was? I have my doubts about that.

I agree.

Sometimes, with some fans, I agree. But sometimes I believe that is misunderstood as well. I'm sure there are times I come across that way as some others do but to a degree it's the nature of the beast on a message board.
Usually when I do such things, I don't always spell it out. But there are always two sides to the NFL. There is the fans perspective, then there's the business perspective. I admit there are certain players really like and sometimes tend to defend them a bit more from the fan perspective.
But the business side of football isn't pretty when you're a fan sometimes. The business side is "NFL= Not For Long" if you aren't producing and being competative NOW! It's the "What have you done for me lately" kind of business as with any business. The NFL doesn't have to honor its four and five year contracts to the players, but it does have to honor them to management.
So often times I've seen when people post, it's more coming from a FO perspective. Did a players comments cause negativity or questions about a teams coaching staff or direction? Does a players performance seem to be trending downward? Can you see how a FO may be working to replace a player via FA signings or the draft?
A lot of those factors go into much of what I say about a player and their future here. But yes, I do see people who claim to know Cribbs intent and throwing him under the bus based solely on "their perception" of his comments. When in fact, they really have no grasp one way or the other of his intentions.
But you see that more and more these days. So to that extent we totally agree.

I wish Cribbs all the success in the world. And while I understand his emotional comments, when you put something out there for the world to see, you really need to let your brain be running the show, not your heart. So while I do understand those comments, making them certainly wasn't the smart thing to do IMO.............

What a freakin' joke! You selectively omited anything and everything you could to try to make a point that was totally baseless!
You left out anything and everything that TRich said that was really negative. Now you want to try to make it look somehow different than that? Deflect it like it wasn't needed to show that Trich said a LOT of things that sounded about like Cribbs?
That's just rich. But it's pretty good comedy!

j/c Since so many are so quick to pass judgement and have no problem "quoting Cribbs", I thought in fairness his apology and the fact he apologized for the tweets amy be in order..... ____________________________________________ Josh Cribbs sorry for Tweet: Browns Insider By Tom Reed, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer on December 27, 2012 at 7:52 AM, updated Josh Cribbs said he let his anger and frustration do all the talking in a profane Twitter rant directed at detractors after Sunday’s loss in Denver. The Browns’ special-teams ace believes, however, that he knows how he can make amends with fans who are upset at his response. “If we beat Pittsburgh, it will be like ‘Josh said what?’ ” Cribbs said Wednesday. “I’m concentrating on doing that for the fans. One way I can redeem myself is to play good against the Steelers.” The game could serve as his farewell to the Browns’ organization since he becomes a free agent in the off-season. Cribbs, who signed as an undrafted free agent in 2005, reiterated his desire to end his career in Cleveland, even as he spoke of the frustration with the perpetual rebuilding he said impacts special-teams play. “I hate that we rebuild every year,” he said. “You gotta teach guys how to play special teams because, in college, you don’t take special teams to heart. Guys don’t pay a lot of attention to it. They don’t know how important it is. Every year is a constant rebuilding process, every year. Coupled with that and the turnover and the regime [change] constantly happening, you know I’m not on the field by myself. . . . It’s not a good recipe for successful football.” Cribbs said coach Pat Shurmur didn’t fine him for his Tweet. After Sunday’s game — one in which he muffed a punt that was recovered by the Broncos — he lashed out at people who criticized him for his performance. Cribbs estimated that he read about 10 to 15 negative comments before he sent out this Tweet, which he later deleted: “I see all the negativity on twitter after I gave my life to this [expletive],” he Tweeted. “So 2 all u who are against me [expletive] all y’all. I’m still gonna do me!” Cribbs said the post wasn’t aimed at Browns fans in general. Shurmur told Cribbs he shouldn’t respond to the public so soon after a game. Unlike teammate Greg Little, who has taken a Twitter hiatus after a clash with fans, Cribbs plans to continue to interact. “I’ll just get thicker skin,” he said. “That has made me get thicker skin. Anybody in here, you press their buttons in the right way at the right time . . . I had a sour taste in my mouth from putting that out there. A lot of people don’t know nothing about football and keep calling this just a game. But this is our life, this is my life. It’s more than a game to me. I’m a fan. That’s what people don’t understand.” Cribbs Apology

Since you're going to get all High-&-Mighty on behalf of Cribbs by posting his "apology" while looking down your nose at those who don't agree with you, maybe you can show me where he actually said "I'm sorry."
If we're going to be honest and call everything what it is, that doesn't look like an apology. That looks like an explanation. An actual "I'm sorry, Browns fans" would go further than an explanation.
Cribbs has a long history of spouting off in an uncontrolled fashion. I get that, but even now, his damage control is filled with the now-stale politics and fan-manipulation of trying to draw the fans to his cause: Quote:
I’m concentrating on doing that for the fans.

Sure you are, Josh, sure you are.
Cribbs, here's a hint: Just say you're sorry and stop filling the "apology" with explanations, defensive posturing, and emotional manipulation. We want you to succeed, but we also want you to just shut-up because you constantly do yourself more damage than good.

My favorite part was when he said something to the effect of "It's not me vs the other team" as it relates to winning.
We know that.
But when you don't do your job correctly (holding onto the ball) you effect the teams chances of winning Josh.
I don't remember what game it was. It was a few weeks ago. But on a KO he fumbled the ball, and while there was a scrum for it. He just got up, and walked off the field.
It's not just about what you do on the field. But how you do it. Greg Little could catch every first down, but if he does the stupid point and drop the ball gimmick every time, people sour on him. Even if he's doing his job.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

It's pretty funny that thing you're calling an "apology."
It looks like PFT doesn't view it that way, either.
I call it an explanation.
PFT says it's nothing but frustration: Soon-to-be free agent Josh Cribbs is frustrated in Cleveland Posted by Michael David Smith on December 28, 2012, 7:17 AM EST AP Browns receiver and return man Josh Cribbs becomes a free agent this offseason, and he sounds like he could use a fresh start. Although Cribbs says he’d like to remain in Cleveland, he also lashed out at Browns fans on Twitter after Sunday’s loss to the Broncos, and he told reporters this week that he finds it frustrating being with a franchise that is constantly making changes. “I hate that we rebuild every year,” he said. “You gotta teach guys how to play special teams because, in college, you don’t take special teams to heart. Guys don’t pay a lot of attention to it. They don’t know how important it is. Every year is a constant rebuilding process, every year. Coupled with that and the turnover and the regime [change] constantly happening, you know I’m not on the field by myself. . . . It’s not a good recipe for successful football.” Cribbs is still a solid returner on both punts and kickoffs, but he’s not having his best year on special teams, and he has been largely phased out of the Browns’ offense. And while Cribbs has said he now thinks he went too far with tweets ripping the fans on Twitter, he still seems to have issues with some of the criticism he takes from some fans. “A lot of people don’t know nothing about football and keep calling this just a game. But this is our life, this is my life. It’s more than a game to me,” Cribbs said. Until we know who will be calling the shots in Cleveland next season, it’s impossible to know how high a priority the Browns will make re-signing Cribbs. But he sounds like a man who could benefit from getting a fresh start somewhere else.
Still waiting for that "apology." He still owes the fans he's working so hard for ( ) one...

Who wouldn't be frustrated playing in Cleveland for as long as he has?
Obviously Dawson has been. He hasn't signed a long term deal, and will probably bolt in the off-season when it becomes way too expensive to re-sign him.
Cribbs has done whatever the team has asked of him. Learn to be a Wildcat QB, play Receiver, consider playing Safety, I don't once recall him complaining that the team was trying to make him do too much.
This year he is down to being a special teams guy almost exclusively. He was finally used in some Wildcat in the past few games, but I do think that he truly believes that he can help this team win games if he is used more. That being said, of course he's frustrated. Who wouldn't be?

YTown, that is unacceptable. They must behave like robots.
And yes, I am Josh Cribbs.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Obviously Dawson has been.
You don't see Dawson spouting off at the mouth and taking the media tour to try and get more money.
Quote:
Cribbs has done whatever the team has asked of him.
That's his job. That's what he gets paid to do. Virtually every player on the team has done what the team has asked them to do.
He's also whined and cried to the fans and played the sympathy card to try and get more touches and more money.
I don't see how doing your job entitles you to anything.
Quote:
This year he is down to being a special teams guy almost exclusively.
And because of that, even though he's clearly lost a step, his production is up. Again, that's what he gets paid to do. How does that excuse anything?

Believe it or not, I also think he can help the team win if he's used more, but giving him reps means taking them away from guys name Gordon, Little, and Benjamin. They are the future. He is the past. His job is to play special teams. That's what he gets paid to do.
Now I get that he's frustrated, but he's not the only one. Yet it's his voice which is, again, critical and anything but team-oriented.
I don't recall Dawson or any other frustrated Browns players dropping F-bombs on twitter and offering explanations instead of apologies.
Cribbs has been doing this far too long to excuse the behavior. Rookies? More understandable. Cribbs? No freakin' way.

while looking down your nose at those who don't agree with you, maybe you can show me where he actually said "I'm sorry.
Oh I wasn't really looking down my nose at everyone who disagrees with me. I was just looking down my nose at that hatchett editing job you did to make TRich look like an angel compared to Cribbs.
How you purposly paired it down to a single comment that wasn't in any way inflamitory while putting in all of Cribbs inflamitory comments just to try to make a point that wasn't there to begin with.
I don't mind you not liking it, but hey, when you get caught at a hatchett job, the least you could have done was to have manned up and owned it instead of some BS reply.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Dawson did all but say that he wasn't coming back the year before the Browns tagged him for the 1st time. He spoke of how he wasn't treated fairly with regards to his contract situation. (and he was probably right) He wasn't a guy who suffered silently.
Many of these guys complain about stuff.

Quote:
"We [were] ready for the game," Richardson said via Tom Reed of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "I think we've just got a game plan, and the game plan we had at the beginning of the game, I think we should've stuck with it. But we didn't stick with the game plan, and we tried to go do some other stuff, and the outcome came in a different way."
And you seriously think that quote is inflammatory?
I posted what I see as the more inflammatory sentence because of the use of the word "shocking." The stuff above? That's less offensive to me.
I also left out more of the quotes from Weeds and from Cribbs, who kept praddling on as he has a bad habit of doing (when he's not declining interviews because he's too upset to speak. I hope he declines all interview requests from now 'till the end of his Browns career. )
Cribbs, unlike any other Browns player, has been at this all year, and has been at this at various points in his entire career. Even now, his "apology" isn't remotely close to that, so it's certainly not a "fact" as you'd love to pretend it to be.
"In all fairness" Cribbs really does need to give an actual apology to the fans. Not so much for dropping an F-bomb in public (which he should apologize for anyway) but for embarrassing the organization.
I always viewed Cribbs as a closet primmadonna who hid behind the fans and played to their starvation for a real pro-bowl caliber starter for years, but after watching him ramp-up his efforts in spite of declining skills, I'm ready for him to just pack it up and move on. This whole "Love me or screw you" act has gotten stale.
Ytown, I don't remember Dawson saying boo about anything. In fact, this quote says he's been the polar opposite of Cribbs: web page
Quote:
He's been absent from much of the last two offseason programs while waiting for some kind of verdict on his contract situation, but he's always come back and refused to discuss it. He's never trashed the team, its methods or its negotiators.
I even read a quote where he said he was happy signing the franchise tag this past off-season.
Look, setting everything aside, Weeds and Richardson are rookies, and Dawson has been a consummate pro and teammate. Cribbs? The only real player who was a distraction over the last few years.
At this point no matter which regime is here I'd just let Cribbs go find a new home. In the past he's whined and moaned his way to what he wants, but now it's different. His skills are eroding, and his attitude is deteriorating. There's very little reason to offer him a long-term deal.

Josh Cooper Retires ....... from Twitter. http://www.ohio.com/sports/browns/nate-u...pursue-1.361241Browns rookie wide receiver Josh Cooper has retired. Not from the NFL, but from Twitter. He got rid of his account this week. So even though veteran return man and receiver Josh Cribbs set a bad example for his younger teammates by lashing out at some critical fans with a profanity-laced tweet Sunday night following the Browns’ 34-12 loss to the Denver Broncos, a valuable lesson was learned. “There were times when I’d type something out to respond to something that somebody said to me negatively, and I’d just delete it,” Cooper said. “I didn’t want to be one of those guys that responded negatively to somebody and something bad happens.” Cooper is a soft-spoken, even-keeled guy. But even he was occasionally tempted to fire back when provoked on Twitter. “I have my moments,” Cooper said. “So I didn’t want it to happen like that, be a headline or get in trouble for something.” Professional athletes are often criticized for doing or saying stupid things. Cooper deserves credit for doing just the opposite.

If Twitter had only been around when Warren Sapp was playing, that would have been a hoot.

If I were a HC in the NFL, I'd call a meeting and say "Gentlemen, turn in your Twitter machines. They will be returned to you at the end of the season.".

Good for Cooper. Twitter isn't all that. Players who can set aside their needs for attention should follow suit.
