LOL I was thinking the same thing.. how freakin arrogant can a guy get?
I've met quite a few! It makes for a good laugh though!

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Ok, the 90% was probably exagerated, but it was a huge crowd, mostly the homer crowd who had no draft clue. Of us draft nerds I can't remeber all too many wanting him there, although I'm sure many would have been ok. I just don't like drafting a C or G in the 1st period.
I remember you pimping for Mercilus and Glenn, when we took Weeds and Schwartz and that would have looked nice too. But who would have QBed for us then? Colt? Expect a guy like Cousins or Wilson to start day 1? 32 teams passed on Wilson twice at least. QBs of that size have the odds stacked against them for a reason
Can't wait for the draft forum to be open again, there's some fun stuff to be digged out and thrown around, lol
Lol as a homer and not a draft nerd I was pimping staying at 4 and taking any of
Claiborne Blackmon RG3 T-Rich Kalil
Blackmon and Claiborne were my real targets. If we went CB I wanted Wright with the 22nd pick. Would have been comfortable with Tanny or Weeden at that spot as well if we had taken Blackmon.
Just shows why Im not a GM thats for sure.
If you need 3 years to be a winner you got here 2 years to early. Get it done Browns.

Just curious your thoughts on this value... I find it interesting that the only 2 guys drafted around McCoy that are now viewed as really good, were nobodies until Peyton Manning showed up.... 80. J.D. Walton C - Broncos - started every game the last 2 years 81. Earl Mitchell DT - Texans - 86 tackles and 2 sacks in 3 years (Doesn't start) 82. Emmanuel Sanders WR - Steelers - 94 catches and 1,290 yards in 3 years (Doesn't start) 83. Corey Peters DT - Falcons - 74 tackles and 4 sacks in 3 years (Doesn't start) 84. Jordan Shipley WR - Bengals - 79 catches and 858 yards in 3 years (with is 3rd team) (Doesn't start) 85. Colt McCoy QB - Browns - 409 completions, 4,388 yards, 21 TDs, 20 INTs rating of 74.8 (Doesn't start) 86. Daniel Te'o-Nesheim DE - Eagles - 43 tackles and 5 sacks in 3 years (with his second team starts for the Bucs) 87. Eric Decker WR - Broncos - 135 catches and 1,782 yards and 22 TDs (starts) 88. Andre Roberts WR - Cards - 139 catches and 1,652 yards and 9 TDs (starts) So by your own standards, can you argue that McCoy wasn't a decent value pick? Just curious. Quote:
Since week 2 Weeden has a QBr around 79, 59% and 6.8ypa and turned the ball over less than Eli in ANY of those 4 seasons
So what? McCoy's rookie QB rating was 74.5 without removing his worst game (it was 82.5 if you give him one mulligan for his worst game), 60.8% completions, 7.1 ypa and turned the ball over just over once a game (9 times in 8 games) which is about the same as Eli's 19 and Weeden's 18... So you can go back to the eye test and you know what you see and blahblahblah.. because most people don't look at Weeden and see Eli Manning.... they see Derek Anderson...

Yes, it would have been Colt... my QB ratings (for the Browns) looked like this: Code:
Rank Player Pos. Pos. Rank 1 *Andrew Luck QB 1 2 *R. Griffin III QB 2 73 Russell Wilson QB 3 77 *Brock Osweiler QB 4 105 Kirk Cousins QB 5 107 Nick Foles QB 6 128 Austin Davis QB 7 142 B.J. Coleman QB 8 144 Tyler Hansen QB 9
Weeden was off the list because I thought he was too immoble to execute the rollouts that Shurmur called so much of the year before and had no under center experience... falling over on a 3-step drop vs AZ and nearly falling over again under center in the Senior Bowl then lofting a pick to Wagner. Tannehill was off the list because I thought he was garbage and would go way too high for it to matter where he was on my list. I bought into the "Russell Wilson is too short" talk and dropped him down to #73 overall (still my 3rd-ranked QB, though)... Only the 24th-ranked player available when he was picked. (though 11 of the 23 ahead of him were WRs or OTs so would have been taken off). My thinking was "Don't overdraft a mediocre QB in the first and set your team back another three years" and "if they're not an elite QB, they're not worth investing a high pick on when we have so many needs." I bought Holmgren and Shurmur's garbage about how many game sit takes to learn the WCO and thought if someone wasn't a clear immediate upgrade over Colt then just stick with him, improve in other areas, and draft a great QB when one is available.

I'm not sure how often I have to tell you that I didn't, don't and will ever care for Colt because of his garbage time splits. Go look them up at espn...
As for Weeden's 1st game, it 's not about taking it out because it was his worst, it's because of progression everyone wants to see and he clearly wasn't himself in that game as the next dozen of games proved. So, just cutting off some random 3rd, 4th or 7th Colt start isn't exactly the same..if you wanna do the same, go look up colt since his 1st start, I'm sure he's still the same QB.
As for your list: I really liked all 3 players after Colt and Peters and Teo-Nesheim before. And you'll be surprised, while I didn't like Colt as a prospect and didn't like the pick, I was not too disappointed with the "value" of it

Your "excuse" aside, and that's exactly what it is - I have never understood saying "hey, look at Weeden. If you take out his worst game, look what he's done."
If you won't look at his whole body of work ie. you ignore some stats....what's it prove?
Here's your answer: NOTHING.

Kalil played very well, but it's hard to say how he would have translated to RT.
RGIII obviously was a historic success.
Richardson is what we picked.
Blackmon led all rookies in receiving yards and had as many TDs as Calvin Johnson, this despite having the worst QB in the league throwing the ball his first 9 games. The difference between having the worst QB (Gabbert) and a below-average QB (Henne) in his production is huge:
9 games started by Gabbert: averaged 27.8 yds/g and 0.11 TDs/g (proj. 445 yds, 2 TDs) 7 games started by Henne: averaged 87.9 yds/g and 0.57 TDs/g (proj. 1406 yds, 9 TDs)
Some may be quick to jump on his huge game as an anomaly, but if you remove his best and worst game with Henne it still comes out to 74 ypg and 0.6 TDs/g (proj 1184 yds, 10 TDs).
Claiborne didn't do great his rookie year, but it's a tough position for a rookie and he can still be a very good one.
As for your picks at 22, Wright and Tannehill weren't available, and Weeden was who we took.
So really, it's not like you would have done worse.

Every time you compare Weeden (who was 29 and had one decent starting year in college in the Big12) to Eli Manning (who was 23 years old and had 3 1/2 record breaking season in the SEC). Serious question, if the Browns cut Weeden tomorrow, who would be knocking down the door to pick him up?

Actually I think he regressed under Shurmur considerably.. just like I think Weeden looked a lot better in weeks 2-about 7 than he did in the second half of the season... he regressed as well. His completion percentage went up but his overall effectiveness seemed to go down.. his ypa went down... and one would think if you are completing more passes your ypa should go up but his went down, which means the passes he was completing were a lot shorter than the ones he was completing in the first half of the season... The offense seemed to lose a lot of it's pop that it had early on...

I get your point, but that comparison is hilarious. Johnson was double and triple teamed when his team inside the redzone. If you are going to give that stat you have to give the number of TDs as well (they both had 5).
Justin Blackmon also had as many TDs as Andre Roberts, Brandon Gibson, Josh Gordon, Brandon Stokley, and Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Greg Little had as many TDs as Andre Johnson. That tells us nothing.

1. Weeden had TWO dominant seasons in College, you could have at least fact checked this much
http://www.cfbstats.com/2010/player/521/1010539/passing/gamelog.html
2. With his cheap contract and upside left, he'd could choose the timezone he wants to live in.
3. Keep playing the age-card, it's all you guys have. Every rook signs a 4 or 5 year contract and Weeden will be able to play it out just like any other rook

I dont know if you read what he replied to or what we were talking about but he wasnt pimping the kid he was just stating fact. Im one who said I was pimping him last year. He was saying the kid didnt do bad and wouldnt have been a bust at the 4th pick.
You really need to stop just seeing 1 sentence in what people write esp when its in the middle of a discussion about a broad topic.

To hold a clipboard. Which NFL teams are likely to come knocking looking for their QB of the future? What could we trade him for? A 4th if we were lucky?
Quote:

It is right around the end of that first contract that you expect a QB to be hitting his stride and really starting to peak.. Weeden will be 34 years old.... So keep pretending that his age isn't a factor when it is. Look at it this way, do you think the Giants would have stuck with Eli through those first few years if they thought the payoff of seeing him through it was maybe 4 good years?
Or, look at it this way.. Eli had his struggles early on, he worked through them, he's been to the playoffs 5 times, he's won 2 super bowls, he has 2 super bowl MVPs to his credit, and he's 2 years older than Weeden... if Weeden accomplishes what Eli did, he will win super bowls at 34 and 37... not impossible but not likely either...
If you don't think that when the braintrust is picked, whoever that may be, and they sit down to evaluate the roster and where to go from here... if you don't think Weeden's age won't be discussed.. you are absolutely fooling yourself.

I don't think so Maynard. Possibly as a backup....but he sure wouldn't be picking his team. A team MIGHT pick him, but let's face it, who's looking for semi strong armed, inaccurate passer that gets passes batted down at the line of scrimmage more often than some linemen change underwear? Who's looking for an inaccurate, can't read a defense quarterback that is immobile?

Right. I said, "I get your point" acknowledging the validity of his statement.
I just had issue with how he presented the facts.
Thanks for the suggestions though.

Richardson, who sat out Sunday's season finale in Pittsburgh with a sprained ankle, said Monday that he played nine games with the broken ribs.
Damned unlucky for Heckert and Shurmur.
Had Richardson played up to par, those two wouldn't have been fired ...
The way you talked about Richardson all year I thought he had. At every turn you did whatever you could to blame everyone other than Richardson for his below par performance this year. That includes your smartass comment about Hardesty being our featured back. Fact is almost everyone on this board could see he had issues running the ball, issues that had nothing to do with a bad run oline. He had no burst, even though you denied it. Most of us were objective, we could tell he was injured and that it did affect the way he ran. However, we also realize that he still danced too much getting into the hole, something you are probably still denying.
I don't know if your defense of Richardson has been so uneven because of your battle with some Italian guy, living in Germany, who English is like his 5th language, has been so heated. I can't really comment on his side because I don't read that much of his posts.
I think Richardson is going to be one of our best picks in a very long time. We saw his toughness and his ability to gain yards after contact. I can't wait til I can see him run healthy!
btw, I would love to get the All 22 but I can't afford it. After watching Mangini dissect game film I feel I would also know what offenses and defenses each team was running. Figuring out the basic formations and coverages isn't very difficult. Knowing all ins and outs is what would really make it enjoyable to me.

Just more proof that this entire board doesn't understand value....
You're gonna have one helluva an uphill battle convincing anyone that drafting a 29-year old rookie QB with the 22nd pick in the draft...something that has never been attempted in the history of the NFL before...represents "value."
The ONLY way he represents "value" is if he's great. Anything less and he's a waste, and your arguments with it, especially after stating you're the only guy that knows the definition of value.
Now taking a time-out from the fun confrontational debates...which is what we all really do around here because it isn't that serious...I've always found you to be very knowledgeable of the game.
Now that I've said that, I'm calling time-in on the confrontational debate again..
You may know football, but you aren't in possession of more knowledge than anyone else on the board. Stating only you understand the definition of the term "value" as it applies to Weeden puts you WAAAAAY out on a limb that can barely hold your weight. Good thing for you hot air is lighter than cold, 'cause you're holding as much hot-air as one man can possess.

When you're counter-arguing that the guy should be benched, you gotta swing as far the other was as possible, and for the record, the ribs were always acknowledged.
